Report: Absolute Moral Authority drops the N-bomb on Obama tape; Update: O’Reilly blames Internet “weasel” for leak

Normally I’d wait for video proof but Inside Cable News claimed with unusual insistence last night that it’s true and now TV Newser is corroborating it, so obviously someone who’s in a position to know is leaking. The alleged offending quote:
Barack…he’s talking down to black people…telling n—s how to behave.
Eh. Yeah, as the boss notes, he’s a total hypocrite, but the left loves to punish conservatives for preaching virtue while occasionally failing to live up to their own standards and I’m reluctant to do the same to Jackson. He slipped, but his intent wasn’t bad — just as the New Yorker’s wasn’t, I hasten to add — and his attempt to get entertainers to rein in their N-bomb usage is salutary. Where he does go too far is in flirting with criminalizing the word. He told the Today Show two years ago that public utterances should qualify as hate speech and he’s asserted before, quite matter-of-factly, that the word is unprotected by the First Amendment, presumably per the “fighting words” exception. Somebody, quick — arrest that man.
O’Reilly was just on Shep Smith’s show talking about this, but it looks like he’s saving the tape for the Factor tonight. I’ll go watch and see if anything he said warrants an update. In the meantime, here’s a sneak preview from last year of what’s sure to be Jackson’s defense: That not even he is immune from internalized degradation and the ugly “I want to cut his nuts off” thoughts to which it leads. In any case, he’s old news. Even his kid thinks so.
Update: O’Reilly tells Shep that he felt he had no choice but to address the rest of the tape now that some unnamed Internet “weasel” is publishing the details. Take a bow, TV Newser! Belated exit question: By O’R's logic, doesn’t that give Fox an incentive to leak the tape? “Oops — it’s out there. Now we have to show it and do a whole new ratings blockbuster news cycle on it.”

The word ‘scum’ by itself–without the user, the context, the words around it and the (grammatical) object being described–is, indeed, just the edge of something.
And that gave the word a user, a context, some words around it and an object. Therefore, it no longer had its simple benign definition. All the qualities mention gave the word its connotations.

As to the N-word (and for some reason, using that expression irritates me even more than the actual word, but feel I must go along with convention, in this case anyway)… I always personally considered the word to be descriptive more of ‘a state of mind’, rather than a skin color. I wonder what your take on that might be.
And in the same vein, for a few months back in the early 90s, I worked for an airline services company. One of our crews cleaned the passenger cabins of the planes during the turnaround. We had one guy, a wimpy little white guy who constantly carried a boom box playing gangster rap at full volume. The spanish speaking members of the crew called him “El Negro Blanco”. I thought that was pretty funny. Was that racist of me? Of Them?

IMO there is another interpretation of the remarks that many are missing….

Sounds to me like he does not include Barak in the group of black people, or the more coloquial subculture of “ngrs”. Thus Obama is an outsider talking down to blacks.
Since it is well known that Obama is half white… Jackson does not think Barry is sufficiently “black” to be able to lecture the black subculture…

Some very strange interpretations on the term “white trash”. I guess its a personal thing.
It had always been used as a racial slur against dirt poor white, usually Irish, considered stupid, who historically were lower on the social ladder than even slaves. It was commonly spoken by blacks and upper class whites. It has morphed into use against anyone with those perceived attributes, poor, white and stupid.
If you read Thomas Sowell he will tell you in several of his books that there has never been a sorrier lot than the Irish immigrant who fared worse, and died in greater numbers than even slaves who were deemed to have economic value. Ghettoes originated with the Irish and none to date have ever reached such squalor. It is for this reason that the Irish built all the canals, railroads and were perp marched off the boats into all our wars. The death rate was so high and slaves were to valuable for any such labors.
Amongst the Irish the term was not used. They used shanty and lace curtain to effect the same slur. These are the people who had historically populated, even to this day, Appalachia, the Hatfield’s and the McCoys. Poor white trash as they were affectionately called. The stuff of black and white photos.
In the northeast, especially in the Boston area, freed Blacks refused to be buried in cemeteries where there were Irish. Worse still were the Irish Catholics, the trash of the trash.
In the racial slur game being called white trash by a black person used to be the same as you calling them a nigger. Thankfully most whites don’t give a shit anymore but years ago someone may have been killed. Now most people throw slurs around and they don’t even know what they mean.
I was constantly reminded of this history in the town where I grew up in New York, where there were still faded signs that said, “Blacks and Irish need not apply” above tradesmen doors in the allies.
As a white person I have no problem using the term as an adjective. In fact I have used it many times to describe the behavior of the Clinton’s. The people in Arkansas know what I’m talking about!

Hypocrisy is old hat. Shouldn’t we be addressing the real problem: that we have allowed ourselves to live under PC-mandated speech codes which outlaw the use of many more words than n—-, label any truth about the Left (or its Islamist allies) “hate speech”, and virtually forbid the public airing of inconvenient-to-the-Left views (notice how the word treason no longer has any meaning)? All public discussions about race and gender are now firmly restricted by PC-guidelines and we all go along so as not to “offend”, but the more serious linguistic walls of silence and/or distortion are erected around any discussion about the nature of the Left itself. It’s our own fault, letting ourselves be muzzled.

Thank you. It surprises me how easily some people write off others as “racist”, even on sites like Hot Air. It shows how thoroughly the brain-washing and climate of fear permeate the entire society.
White trash is a common phrase that does nothing more than define behavior and limit the description to caucasians. It means people who do dumb things and never learn from their mistakes. The pleasures of the moment are paramount: sex, drugs, alcohol, cigarettes, big-screen TV, and shiny toys are more important than anything else. Kids are raised in an unstable, unhealthy environment, though they may be loved. The behavior ranges from self-destructive to criminally destructive to others. Today’s definition describes a poverty of spirit more than of material things. Low income and debt are symptoms, not causes. One is not white trash because of low income.
Country Club Trash: Dumb rich people who think they’re smart and qualified because they have money. Their “can’t fail” paths to success are greased by family ties and connections. They are entitled to rule as corporatists and politicians by same.
I guess that’s raaacist too.

Not racial, no, but certainly a putdown, depending on the form – “nigga” or “nigger”.
There seems to be a casual, yet coarse, use of “nigga” in much the same way others might say “hey there y’ol’ bastard!”.
Still, “nigger” is also used as a derogatory term, much as some may use “white trash” or “redneck”. Not as a racial slur, but a term of disgust at others’ lowlife behavior.
Of course, it’s hard to distinguish the two when used verbally, so you have to pay close attention to context.

I like most of your posts, Limey, but this is silly. I know that this excuse has been used for years, now, but it stretches credulity. “nigga” is nothing more than the word spoken with the usual black inflection – like ‘ho’ which is ‘whore’ but in ebonic-speak. (You’ll notice that r’s tend to get dropped off in their slang – these are not new words, but simple mispronunciations of old words).
The first time I heard this ‘nigga’ explanation I busted out laughing. The 100th time I heard it my jaw fell to the ground. I can’t believe anyone buys this junk.

o’reilly probably backed off of airing the rest of the tape in order to secure future visits from this coward to his show. It’s also why certain subjects aren’t delved into and chastised by bill in concerns to geraldo and sharpton.
