“Drill now”: Newt’s group delivers 1.3 million petition signatures to Congress

Darned impressive. Maybe it is the “conservative MoveOn,” minus the periodic bleats for attention that end up sabotaging its own side.

Your companion reading for the clip (aside from the American Solutions fact sheet on drilling, natch) is FactCheck’s critique of Obama’s “fast track” alternative, which turns out not to be so fast. Remember the next time you see some Democrat sneering that drilling now won’t produce any oil in the short term that St. Barack’s time horizon for alternative fuels is fully 10 years, predictably with “no guarantee that just spending more for research will produce the sort of new fuels, vehicles or other breakthroughs that would actually reverse the growth of oil imports.” He promised you Change, but he didn’t promise you it’d happen before, oh, say, 2020.

The sooner we get to our oil the the sooner we can increase the supply. Simple logic. Of course I know how logic & Democrap arguments go hand in hand.

I like Hannity’s idea on the topic.

4) The Candidate Pledges to be a supporter of “Energy Independence”
a) supports Immediate drilling in Anwar and the 48 states
b) Building new refineries
c) Begin building and using Nuclear Facilities
d) expand coal mining
e) realistic steward of the environment
While simultaneously working with private industry to develop the new energy technologies for the future, with the goal being that America becomes completely energy independent within the next 15 years.

Dr.Cwac.Cwac on July 16, 2008 at 10:25 PM

You know, this higher prices has backfired on the Dems. They wanted higher prices, ask Gore and Obama. The higher prices puts the left in a corner, and the right can go for the knockout.

WoosterOh on July 16, 2008 at 10:25 PM

Reagan’s chief economic adviser and Harvard economics professor Martin Feldstein says drilling today can lower prices today:

Similarly, increasing the expected future supply of oil would also reduce today’s price. That fall in the current price would induce an immediate rise in oil consumption that would be matched by an increase in supply from the OPEC producers and others with some current excess capacity or available inventories.

Any steps that can be taken now to increase the future supply of oil, or reduce the future demand for oil in the U.S. or elsewhere, can therefore lead both to lower prices and increased consumption today.

Dr.Cwac.Cwac on July 16, 2008 at 10:28 PM

that is until the DEMs outlaw speculators from the market. speculators work both ways. On the way up and on the way down. If the speculators are outlawed while oil is this high, it will take years to bring the cost of oil down as the few vested interest left in the market conspire to keep the price high.

My true name’s on there too. I didn’t realize I could put a fake one. Oh the possibilities…

BadgerHawk on July 16, 2008 at 10:31 PM

My real name is on the petition. I have sent many emails to the troll Pelosi, Feinstein and the idiot Boxer. I do not have a Nevada address so I cannot email Reid. I think more highly of dog poop in my yard than Harry Reid.

Zelsdorf Ragshaft on July 16, 2008 at 10:31 PM

Every time I pump gas, I tape a homemade poster on the pump showing unflattering pictures of Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid explaining that THEY are responsible for fuel prices. It also has their phone numbers and the Democrats voting percentages vs. Republican on oil exploration and drilling.

I don’t know how long they stay up there until someone rips it down, but at least the next person behind me sees it. And if they’re a liberal, so much the better. Eat this, tree hugging Stalinst pricks.

Plus, I signed the petition and donated enough to get a Drill Here Drill Now sticker for my gas guzzling Yukon. Will it make a difference? Dunno. Does it make me feel like I’m not just sitting here taking it up the kazoo? Youbetcha.

pistolero on July 16, 2008 at 10:34 PM

Has anyone heard of T. Boone Pickens? – Troy

Yeah, saw him on Glenn Beck and some tv ad, he says ‘we can’t drill our way out of it’. But he’s wrong, the way the free market works, drilling would indeed bring down the cost at the pump. He’s right too though, about alternative energy.

Tony737 on July 16, 2008 at 10:35 PM

By the way, I’m sure American Solutions could use a contribution to helps its efforts. Will anyone join me in throwing them a buck or two?

Yup. So is my wife’s, her mother’s, her father’s, my mom’s, my dad’s, my sister’s, uncle’s and aunt’s, etc. This is really a welcome sea change in the last year or so, and Newt has been a big part of it (sitting on a couch with Pelosi notwithstanding).

Weight of Glory on July 16, 2008 at 10:35 PM

Has anyone heard of T. Boone Pickens?

Troy Rasmussen on July 16, 2008 at 10:24 PM

Troy,

boone’s ideas are good just be aware that he is talking his book, he owns oil, wind farms and LNG company. therefore he wins if oil stays high WHILE we switch over to wind and LNG. Drilling now would reduce oil prices therefore his “we can’t drill our way out of this” is technically true in the long run but drilling now will reduce gas prices now and give us breathing room to change over in 10-15 years

Zelsdorf Ragshaft on July 16, 2008 at 10:31 PM

You do not need to be a Nevada resident to email Reid. That’s for congress critters. Plus, even for congress you look on their website, find the address for their local office and paste that into the webform. You can put your real identity in the body of the text on the webform if you wish. But no elected official should be beyond the reach of the people they are screwing serving, whether you have a chance to vote for them or not. They affect your life.

Holes in the ground. Hmmm. You mean the ones in the basement at Beverly Hills High and the Gucci “Beverly Center” mall?

I guess if an intellectual giant like Sean Penn didn’t notice the hole can’t be that big, eh?

“This is one of those weird things about Los Angeles,” says Jeff Brown, the mall’s general manager. “There are oil wells all over the place. Drive down the street, you see hotel, beautiful house, oil well. Here, I don’t know if shoppers know there’s one or not. They probably don’t.”

Hate to break it to you….the US Gov’t has been in debt for decades but not due to US Gov’t subsidizing my gas purchases. The US Gov’t has increased my cost at the pump with taxes. The US Gov’t makes more per gallon than the people actually responsible for providing the product I need.

Why poor people vote for Republicans and their scemes is a mystery, top.

Can’t they hear the Republicans laughing at them?

alphie on July 17, 2008 at 3:17 AM

Hey 9 percenter, they vote Republican because they want to be something besides poor and dependent on gummint all their lives. Or else they vote Democrat.

Why rich people vote for Democrats and their schemes is completely inexplicable.

Keep pushing that Democrat line on drilling, wouldja?

Seeing boehner there ruins it for me. He was one of the leaders for 12 years that did nothing to move this country forward. He needs to go.

The Liberals don’t offer solutions, they are busy
with the blame game!

Hey, haven’t you heard? Barry O’s going to solve our energy problems by “fast-tracking” alternatives. What does that mean? It means he gonna throw money at research on alternative fuels, and HOPE that the researchers come up with something in about 10 years or so. (Of course, nobody is working on alternatives now, because the prospect of getting filthy rich has never motivated anybody. We need Barry O’s special brand of magic for that!).

Ya gotta love liberals. They refuse to drill because it won’t get more oil to the market for several years, but their “solution” is to HOPE that alternative energy researchers can come up with some viable alternative to oil in a decade or so. Yeah, that’s a responsible plan.

And yes, I signed my real name to the petition a few weeks ago.
