Darned impressive. Maybe it is the “conservative MoveOn,” minus the periodic bleats for attention that end up sabotaging its own side.
Your companion reading for the clip (aside from the American Solutions fact sheet on drilling, natch) is FactCheck’s critique of Obama’s “fast track” alternative, which turns out not to be so fast. Remember the next time you see some Democrat sneering that drilling now won’t produce any oil in the short term that St. Barack’s time horizon for alternative fuels is fully 10 years, predictably with “no guarantee that just spending more for research will produce the sort of new fuels, vehicles or other breakthroughs that would actually reverse the growth of oil imports.” He promised you Change, but he didn’t promise you it’d happen before, oh, say, 2020.

And while Newt tries to hand McAmnesty this issue on a silver platter, McAmnesty goes to the NAACP and essentially endorses Obama! Wasn’t that special? This while the democRATs savage every aspect of his life! Idiot!

Oh. Nevermind…

It won’t matter if Newt gives Congress a 10 million vote petition. The DEMOCRATS are not going to drill.
THE ONLY SOLUTION IS TO VOTE THE DEMOCRATS OUT. RETAKE BOTH HOUSES OF CONGRESS.

The dems will have to eventually get out of the way. Or I believe they will get run over.
By the way I hope this isn’t against policy, but my friend is selling some DRILL NOW bumperstickers, $3 no S&H.
Keep up the good work guys.

My signature is one of 1.3 million. Nice!

Hah! That’s rich, alphie…you wouldn’t know a real conservative if one kicked you in the ass.

Mr. Pickens sickens me. He is a oil tycoon and is now trying to glean off the stupid environmentals. Yes I said Stupid!
Wiki him, google him… if you want to watch his damned commercial on Fox (if no one else has seen it yet) that isn’t totally true but yet he does say he wants to invest with others (fraud). No one in the Oil Industry wants to listen to this man right now… because he is and has gone over the top.
upinak on July 17, 2008 at 10:59 AM
If I got a friend of mine to make a bumper sticker saying something like:
ANWR, Home of the Oil, Drilling for the Brave!
Would any of you buy it?
upinak on July 17, 2008 at 11:00 AM
Just remember who you’re dealing with…
This is the same group of people, who think it’s just fine for the President of the United States to turn the White House into his own personal Whore House.
franksalterego on July 17, 2008 at 11:02 AM
1.3 million out of over 300 million? Man I hate petitions. Get 150 million and I’ll declare myself impressed.
Darth Executor on July 17, 2008 at 11:02 AM
He is no longer John McCain…..
He is just………..“McDrillin”
Check his ID
Dpet on July 17, 2008 at 11:04 AM
What’s funny about Pickens’ commercial is he doesn’t even address the thrust of his argument, which is the US’s ever-larger importation of foreign oil.
In short, he doesn’t answer the reason why we have increased oil importation so dramatically since 1970?
He claims in 1970 that the US imported 24% of its oil. By 1990 the figure climbed to 42%. And now he says that our imports are almost 70%.
So, obviously, this begs the question why? Isn’t anyone interested in the answer to this question? I am. And I’d like to see the answer to this question broadcasted far and wide so everyone knows why. Personally, I have a couple of guesses as to the cause of ever-increasing oil imports but I’d rather the political class start answering this question and justifying it.
eanax on July 17, 2008 at 11:11 AM
It also begs a blindingly obvious answer: because we’re using more and more and more of it. Duh.
Darth Executor on July 17, 2008 at 11:13 AM
Not true. Why has domestic oil exploration and drilling ceased so much as to force oil companies to import more and more of our oil.
Do you think we don’t have any oil in the US? Get a grip…
eanax on July 17, 2008 at 11:16 AM
actually… in ALL reality. We aren’t using more. We have more people, more items made out of oil products.. BUT as Americans we are using about the same as what we used in the 70’s. We have been able to figure out how to stretch these natural resources further. But with that said, we are capping many of the oil well and natural gas wells here and importing. That is why it is 70% not because we are using out own resources.
Better explanation?
I think I answered your question as well.
upinak on July 17, 2008 at 11:18 AM
Why? Because in the 70s Congress got involved in windfall oil taxes, and American oil comapanies could then invest (drill) in foreign countries more easily, and economicly, than in America. Add in the environmental whackos who make drilling here dificult, if not impossible?
1970? 9,960,000 barrels per day…today? 5,263,000 barrels per day…
in other words, America only produces 56% as much oil as we did in 1970.
Thats why we import more oil, and send that money out of oi economy, into someone elses.
America could be not only energy indepedent if it wished, but a net energy EXPORTER if we tried.
Romeo13 on July 17, 2008 at 11:19 AM
Oh, I know why. I just want politicians and their special interests to own up to it. Don’t you?
These jackasses need to be held accountable for putting us in this situation.
eanax on July 17, 2008 at 11:20 AM
I know, guys. I’m being rhetorical; not literal. I want these assclowns to answer for all of this…
eanax on July 17, 2008 at 11:21 AM
Romeo, can I have a link for your numbers please? I am going off PennWells Oil and Gas mag and a few other RPG types but I am interested where you got that.
BTW, did I mention you rock! Kinda of like Geologists.. They ROCK!
upinak on July 17, 2008 at 11:21 AM
Those who own the land, and the mineral rights are also the controlling factors of the resources.
Think a little bit. Just because they have an special interest, doesn’t mean they are going to get their way.
upinak on July 17, 2008 at 11:23 AM
I understand this as well. But there is A LOT of drilling that could go on on Federal land, but is blocked.
eanax on July 17, 2008 at 11:24 AM
Sweetie you are preaching to the choir. I am an Alaskan, I work in Oil and I am having to deal with BLM here on a constant basis. Federal land or not…. there is more to it then you think, and permitting and the BS letters that go in and out for acceptance and renewal and counter issues and the fact that most of this is usually wasted when BLM doesn’t do anything and SITS on their butts. How can you get anything done when an Agency, which is run by the people for the government FOR the people does NOTHING!
Please do not think you are the ONLY one frustrated.

Straight from the gov… LOL…
It was part of some research I did to try to explain to O’reilly why his 10% less driving thing would NOT impact worldwide oil prices… Took awhile but I notice he is not harping on that silly idea anymore.
Romeo13 on July 17, 2008 at 11:40 AM
Romeo, be sceptical on the eio reports. They aren’t always accurate. I know from experience. Especially since that is a ratio amount.
I know the eio is trying to make it easier for those who don’t understand oil stats, but that report could be a variety of different items. From Production, to estimation of capped, to production before turning into a UIC, to recovery but not small recovery. I am just saying this as a example.
upinak on July 17, 2008 at 11:53 AM
It is amazing that less than ten percent of the population
can stop the production energy in this country.

“production of”
Johan Klaus on July 17, 2008 at 12:16 PM
Pointless.
During the years 2000 through 2006 Republicans had both houses of Congress and the Presidency. They did nothing. Nada. Bupkiss.
Now they want to use this like a club to beat the DHIMMIcRATs over the head.
It’s flaming, raging hypocrisy.
In terms of doing any good, it’s just pointless. This will not lead to one hole being poked in the ground.
pabarge on July 17, 2008 at 12:19 PM
Oh, I don’t trust them on anything really important, but when Government stats make your point for you, they are an easy source to use in a debate… especialy when dealing with the media.
And since these are the stats that Congress and the Gov uses…. its hard for them to call you wrong when its their own Stats…
Romeo13 on July 17, 2008 at 12:30 PM
I call BS. It is the flip floppers who held it up for YEARS. Don’t blame all those who have tried and couldn’t get anything through…
I get your point, but I am just telling you that is how it works out sometimes.
upinak on July 17, 2008 at 1:00 PM
YES! I threw them a buck or two when the site first started the ‘Drill here, drill now, pay less’ campaign. And, as you suggested, it’s time now to toss them a few more.

Better: ANWR: The only thing Clinton didn’t drill.
Dr. Charles G. Waugh on July 17, 2008 at 7:32 PM
Add domestic energy to the long, long list of issues the Dems would like to own and never solve.
I used to vote for a candidate based on their stand on the issues that I found most important, and occasionally, that meant sending a Dem to Washington. Under the current political climate, I can’t see any scenario that will involve me pulling the lever for any Democrat again in my lifetime.

Holy Cow!
You guys cleaned out the my buddy’s (Uncle Fred’s) Drill Now Bumpersticker Inventory.. But he just put 50 more up, and wanted to make sure you got the new link….
Thanks again guys

HAHA!
Deed I have a great idea a friend gave me. Make T-Shirts that say: Drill Me NOW! (in front), with an outline of Alaska in the background and a star where ANWR is… but near a glandular area for women. On the back, it should say: Brought to you by ANWR!
Good Luck and is he makes it, I WILL BUY ONE!
