Video: Amnesty shills mutilate effigy of Joe Arpaio

The most heartwarming display of open-borders advocacy since Columbia’s tolerance brigades stormed the stage at that Minutemen event. Alas, you’ll have to watch the footage at MM’s site; there’s simply no room on the local newscast to air it amid all the segments on how extreme and violent amnesty opponents are. Click the image to watch.

Does that look like a lightsaber to anyone else?

Meric1837 on July 15, 2008 at 4:43 PM

This has got to be some sort of parody… the “effigy” is in fact a “pinata”.

Vizzini on July 15, 2008 at 4:44 PM

Was there candy inside?

Hoodlumman on July 15, 2008 at 4:44 PM

Now only if they were “shouting slogans,” then they would have been effective.

Grafted on July 15, 2008 at 4:46 PM

There has been an industry of “Joe Arpata” Pinyatas in the Phoenix area.

William Amos on July 15, 2008 at 4:48 PM

Well now that’s a mature way to express frustration. Way to go, Amnesty-seekers. I’m sure there are tons of Americans just delighted to welcome you to citizenship after viewing this display….. Keep at it.

Jill1066 on July 15, 2008 at 4:49 PM

Keep it up, amigos. Let all Americans see what kind of people you are — that will surely make them want to have more of you in their neighborhoods.

AZCoyote on July 15, 2008 at 4:52 PM

I really like the part with the beheading and impalement. Not normally activities associated with immigration activists. But hey, if they want to evoke imagery of Islamofascist jihadis at work to try to win support for letting them stay permanently I’d be curious to see how well that sells to America.

Jill1066 on July 15, 2008 at 4:52 PM

She’s a lawyer. Why would anyone be suprised?

bloggless on July 15, 2008 at 4:52 PM

While this is a silly display, I can’t say Joe “America’s Toughest Sheriff” Arpaio doesn’t make himself a target for such things.

Now only if they were “shouting slogans,” then they would have been effective.

Grafted on July 15, 2008 at 4:46 PM

They’re just beating the midget effigies Americans won’t beat.

Joe for V.P.!

And yes, Meric, it does look like a lightsaber!

Tony737 on July 15, 2008 at 4:59 PM

I see a hate crime being committed.

Mexicans, possibly illegal aliens, beating a Caucasian effigy? Racist.

Hey, makes as much sense as the idiots on the left who want to consider desecration of the mexican flag a hate crime.

madmonkphotog on July 15, 2008 at 5:00 PM

La Raza is a racist organization. Can someone in the media speak that truth? It seeks to advance latinos as superior to all other races…no individual responsibility.

kirkill on July 15, 2008 at 5:00 PM

Make himself a target? How? By enforcing the law? I wish we had more like him nation wide. Hell, a good start would have been to swoop in and round up a bunch of the animals at this “protest”.

thekingtut on July 15, 2008 at 5:01 PM

thekingtut on July 15, 2008 at 5:01 PM

Oh, come on. Arpaio’s a shameless self-promoter. He often seems less interested in enforcing the law than in picking fights to make himself look like “America’s Toughest Sheriff.”

Big S on July 15, 2008 at 5:03 PM

Leave it to liberals to think up a “pinata” without candy. All the downside with none of the upside. Typical liberals.

Maxx on July 15, 2008 at 5:04 PM

Hmm. Clearly the ZOG high level roundtable elite meeting on Melmac has yielded immediate results.

Joe Arpaio for Director of the FBI is going according to plan.

PS: CSPAN’s “Book TV” was there.

Johan Klaus on July 15, 2008 at 5:11 PM

No, it’s not. I’m just saying that if Arpaio’s going to use tough tactics (I think he often goes overboard, and it’s arguable that he’s actually hurt the state’s interests in many cases) he and his supporters have to be able to deal with a little opposition.

Do you have any evidence, or are you just in favor of rounding people up based on the causes they support? Last I checked, there are plenty of Americans who agree with these people.

Big S on July 15, 2008 at 5:19 PM

If they really want to protest Arpaio, they should dress up in pink outfits, to match the garb worn by the prisoners he oversees. Or would they be mistaken for Code Pink people?

Bigfoot on July 15, 2008 at 5:21 PM

The worst part of this is it was conducted by a Legal Defender, a Pima County employee, who is paid by the taxpayers. She was being paid to put on this event with our tax dollars here in Tucson, AZ.

Big S on July 15, 2008 at 5:27 PM

I couldn’t care less if he is doing his job to prop himself up, his results are well worth any egoism. He says what he’s going to do and he does it. He doesn’t care what people say about him. He enforces the law, which is probably what some really hate about him.

Certainly Mr. Arpaio doesn’t deserve to have an effigy made and have done what these idiotic people did. I like how, seemingly, heartless he is towards convicted criminals. He treats them like adults, rather than the coddle mentality many leftists wish to treat these criminals by lavishing them with things to ease their pain while in prison. He wants to embarrass them while in prison so they won’t be obliged for return visits.

So if you don’t like it because he’s “mean” and actually enforces the law, get over it.

Weebork on July 15, 2008 at 5:30 PM

Big S on July 15, 2008 at 5:19 PM

Agree with them on what grounds? I didn’t hear them say anything. Do you assume large numbers of American citizens want to beat Sherrif Joe with a bat? That is the message I received from the actions in the video. If you are able to extract any message or “cause” they are supporting you are evidently making the same sort of assumption one would make who concludes that the people in that crowd are illegal aliens.

I say throw a net over the whole crowd. Wrap it up snuggly. Ask each one to show a form of ID. Those who cannot show ID stay in the net. Drop it on the Mexican side of the border via helicopter ride.

Zetterson on July 15, 2008 at 5:32 PM

In the pic, it looks like he is burning the effigy’s private parts with a laser.

Based on the signs that some of the protesters were carrying, I assumed that they were protesting the state’s (and Arpaio’s) policies regarding immigration. I just stated that there’s no way you can tell whether any of these people are illegal immigrants (or have committed any kind of crime) simply from their political leanings.

Big S on July 15, 2008 at 5:36 PM

Ah, based on the signs that SOME of the protesters were carrying? Some of the protesters? But not all of them have the same signs so you don’t know why all of them are there. That is no different that saying based on the language that SOME of the protesters were speaking I’m going to step out on a limb and say a large number of people in the crowd are illegal. Otherwise why would they protest in a language not spoken exclusively by anybody who actually matters in this country?

Zetterson on July 15, 2008 at 5:41 PM

Besides, this sort of behavior worked really well during the 60’s and 70’s. Today, it is having a rather opposite effect. Don’t these people have jobs? Aren’t they supposed to be working? Arpaio enforces the law and they can’t stand that. He doesn’t play into their spoiled nature of getting away with things because they are a minority. What used to work for them isn’t anymore and they’re lashing out in the animalistic ways that they have been taught to do from their elder leftists.

There is a diverging trend between public support and those who wish to grant amnesty. Any actions that demand, not request, further specialized status by a group (this applies to any Shariah-loving Islamist too) will be firmly rejected by the general population. We’ve been through over 40 years of this pandering garbage, it peaked in the 90’s and has been on the decline in its effectiveness ever since.

Expect these protestors to amp up their craziness as time goes on.

Big S on July 15, 2008 at 5:19 PM

Also, if the protest was made without a permit, the protesters could be questioned and if they are illegal they could be arrested.

Johan Klaus on July 15, 2008 at 5:46 PM

Big S,

I’m sure there are unique circumstances you can point to where the Sheriff is in the wrong. Your attempt to mold my statement as an absolute is noted. If he is such a bad guy who does such a terrible job, why is he re-elected with such high numbers? Despite your effort to say otherwise, he does his job well because he enforces the law.

Weebork on July 15, 2008 at 5:47 PM

Weebork on July 15, 2008 at 5:47 PM

It’s the certainty of the statements that bothers me. Arpaio enforces the law! Except when he doesn’t. The protesters are illegal immigrants; round them up! Maybe they’re not. My point is that while the protesters may be a bit nuts, there’s certainly a few reasons why people may have legitimate issues with Arpaio. Getting all worked up about this does nothing to advance anyone’s agenda.

Big S on July 15, 2008 at 5:55 PM

These moronic shills would wet their pants on the spot if the real Sheriff Joe showed up.

pilamaye on July 15, 2008 at 5:59 PM

Big S,

I agree with you in the sense that both getting worked up, as the protestors did, was counterproductive, and that there are people who have legitimate grievances with Sheriff Arpaio who need to get things straightened out in whatever manner that is appropriate.

On a different note, by saying that he enforces the law except when he doesn’t is nonsensical. You are taking what I said about enforcing the law and attempting to twist it into a manner that is positive for your argument. You know what I meant when I said enforcing the law. Stop hairsplitting.

Weebork on July 15, 2008 at 5:59 PM

Pima County Human Resources Dept
Merit System Rules and Personnel Policies:

7-119 Rules of Conduct

P. Do not engage in physical violence or threats of physical violence with fellow
employees and the public.
Q. Do not use abusive, profane, or obscene language or gestures or display obscene or
offensive materials. Materials related to the health field which are determined to be
of business necessity are excluded from this Policy.
W. Prohibited conduct – County employees shall not:
1. Hold financial or personal interests that could negatively impact the interest of
the County.

15. Violation of the Rules of Conduct, Personnel Policy 7-119;

Joe Arpaio, just doing the job that the Phoenix Police won’t do!

4shoes on July 15, 2008 at 7:42 PM

Arpaio’s policies have been much more effective at getting him TV time and inviting lawsuits than actually solving Maricopa County’s crime problems. That said, the immigration sweeps have been effective in at least creating a perception that illegal immigrants can no longer break immigration laws with impunity. Eventually, illegal immigrant communities will figure out that the sweeps are about as effective at fighting illegal immigration as Arpaio’s prostitution stings have been at shutting down full-service massage parlors.

It’s also only a matter of time before the county is sued for racial profiling. Arpaio has claimed that the arrests (which might number in the hundreds on the most productive sweeps) are made on probable cause of a crime being committed, or on tips. I don’t think it’s any secret that most of the time what’s really happening is Arpaio is sending his posses to neighborhoods like Guadalupe and making excuses to harass anyone with brown skin.

We need to get serious about cracking down on the people that hire illegal labor. To his credit, Arpaio has actually taken some steps in that direction, but the immigration sweeps won’t solve immigration problems any more that arresting potheads has solved the drug problem, or arresting hookers has solved the prostitution problem.

DfDeportation on July 15, 2008 at 8:08 PM

Of course Joe himself has been known to be a little violent.

Or at least his jail guards are. So far they’ve killed 3 people in his “restraint chairs”.

One was paraplegic whom they arrested for supposedly being disorderly at a bar, after they wouldn’t let him wheel himself home like he usually did.

Once in the jail they yanked him out of his chair, strapped into the restraint chair, stuffed a rag in his mouth and his head into his chest and watched him die.

3 people, 3 wrongfull death lawsuits lost, $15,000,000 in settlements to the victims families. None of the victims were illegal aliens btw, of course, if so, this crowd would really be whooping it up. But none of them were arrested for capital crimes either.

But readers here don’t care about anything bad Joe does as long as he “works the media” and makes a show of rounding up illegal aliens (a rather recent phenom of course or is it just a coinky-dink that he’s up for re-election? I’m sure none of the inquiring minds here want to know). After the election (if he wins, pray God he doesn’t this time) he’ll forget the illegal aliens issue and go back to embezzling funds and plunking down cash for businesses ($800K at last count, but he doesn’t want to talk about it, funny that).

But now I’ll be labeled pro-illegal immigration. Oh well, I’ll consider the source(s).

Every drug dealer on both sides of the border (A leftover from his days in the DEA.)

LegendHasIt on July 16, 2008 at 1:59 AM

Damn that Arpaio and his enforcing laws of this nation! How dare he! /sarc

Seriously, why doesn’t ICE show up at every one of these events and check ID’s with the semi-trailer headed towards Mexico City in tow?

On a semi-realted note, the anti-illegal immigration crowd REALLY needs to start doing a better job of distinguishing between immigrants and illegal immigrants. The pro-illegal crowd have slowly, but surely, been getting into people’s minds that anyone who is anti-illegal is anti-all immigrants.
I can only speak for myself, but I welcome all legal immigrants. I think there should be more. I think the student visa program needs to be revised so people who go to school here don’t have to leave for 2 years before having any chance of working here. (seriously, how dumb is it to train engineers and scientists only to lock them out of the market here? DUMB)

If the anti-illegal crowd isn’t careful, it will turn into a catch phrase like ‘a woman’s right to chose (what to do with her body)’ that conveniently leaves out that what is being done is killing a human being but in a vaccum by itself sounds like something you should be behind 100%.

What should have happened is have ICE agents on hand to round up these instigators of violence and deport the illegal ones.

But, McCain and Obama are depending on these people for votes, and believe which ever one out panders the other will win. Once again, we are encouraging what we don’t want here in the US. Deport them if you can catch them is what is right, and what is best.

Just like Hitler, Saddam, Jack the Ripper, and all the inmates at Levenworth.

What a really stupid and pointless statement. I guess the ignorant sheeple eat that kind of nonsense up.

But now I’ll be labeled pro-illegal immigration. Oh well, I’ll consider the source(s).

Good point, but it is kinda like throwing out the baby with the bathwater. Unfortunate things do happen in the persuit of justice. Kind of like colateral damage. The only people that never make mistakes are the ones that do nothing.

We simply need to make sur we learn from our mistakes, like for instande the 1986 amnest bill. The only 2 things it accomplished was to train illegals that breaking the law is the best wat to achieve your goals in America, and create a new deluge of illegals once the training was understood.
