Biden: The “bad guys” don’t live in Iraq

posted at 9:46 pm on July 15, 2008 by Allahpundit

Unbelievable.

Biden, the chair of the Senate foreign relations committee, also criticized McCain for putting too much emphasis on Iraq.

“If John wants to know where the bad guys live, come back with me to Afghanistan,” Biden said. “We know where they reside. And it’s not in Iraq.”

So saith the Democrats’ supreme foreign policy expert and quite possibly our next Secretary of State, a guy who (a) used to advocate a “soft partition” of Iraq in the knowledge that the surge would never work; (b) previously called for sending U.S. troops into Darfur, presumably on the theory that “the bad guys” live there; and (c) even within the parameters of his own impoverished view that the “bad guys” encompass no one outside Osama’s inner circle still manages to miss the fact that, yes indeed, some of the bad guys have been known to turn up in Iraq from time to time. See Dean Barnett for a longer response to this idiocy, which raises the left’s visceral discomfort with the idea of jihadist elements in Iraq having anything to do with Al Qaeda to almost Trutheresque proportions. Exit question: Biden does realize, doesn’t he, that the “bad guys” don’t live in Afghanistan either?

Hey Senator, tell that to the families who’ve lost sons and those who’ve been wounded. Stupid bastard.

Osama’s or Obama’s?

a guy who (a) used to advocate a “soft partition” of Iraq

Iraq has already undergone a good deal of “soft partition”. That is a lot of the reason why the violence is down.

Interestingly enough, Obama wants to leave a contingent of forces behind to fight Al Qaeda. Are they not the “bad guys”?

In keeping with this morning’s thread about late-night talk show writers having nothing to joke about Obama because there’s nothing “amusing or buffoonish” about him, Heaven-forbid he choose a guy with hair-plugs and bright white porcelain veneers as his running mate. I mean, there’s just no material there!

Marcus on July 15, 2008 at 9:58 PM

I love what “The Great One” Mark Levin calls Biden: “Plugs.”
This guy is such an idiot.
At first Biden and the liberals declared Iraq a haven for terrorists and declared the war lost. Now, since we are succeeding in Iraq, these detestable liberals want to garner attention away from Iraq, to draw on Afghanistan for politics rather than for sincere worries for the military and the situation there. Instead of doing their jobs now in helping our men and women there, they are trying to earn voters for Obama and the libs by politicizing Afghanistan. Detestable politicians.

Biden does realize, doesn’t he, that the “bad guys” don’t live in Afghanistan either?

Most of the bad guys, those who have killed the most Americans, live in the United States. They don’t come from Iraq or Afghanistan, but Mexico.

Though no federal statistics are kept on murders or any other crimes committed by illegal aliens [now isn't that a big surprise!], a number of groups have produced estimates based on data collected from prisons, news reports and independent research.
Twelve Americans are murdered every day by illegal aliens, according to statistics released by Rep. Steve King, R-Iowa. If those numbers are correct, it translates to 4,380 Americans murdered annually by illegal aliens. That’s 21,900 since Sept. 11, 2001.
But the carnage wrought by illegal alien murderers represents only a fraction of the pool of blood spilled by American citizens as a result of an open border and un-enforced immigration laws.
While King reports 12 Americans are murdered daily by illegal aliens, he says 13 are killed by drunk illegal alien drivers – for another annual death toll of 4,745. That’s [another] 23,725 since Sept. 11, 2001.

MB4 on July 15, 2008 at 10:03 PM

He’s right, they don’t ‘live’ in Iraq, they DIE in Iraq. It’s the battlefield of OUR choosing and they came in by the thousands to fight armed American Soldiers instead of trying to come here to kill defenseless women and children. And guess what? It worked, we won, and they died by the bushel.

Tony737 on July 15, 2008 at 10:05 PM

From Obama’s op-ed:

New tactics have protected the Iraqi population, and the Sunni tribes have rejected Al Qaeda — greatly weakening its effectiveness….

After this redeployment, a residual force in Iraq would perform limited missions: going after any remnants of Al Qaeda in Mesopotamia, protecting American service members and, so long as the Iraqis make political progress, training Iraqi security forces.

Is Biden attempting to claim that Al Qaeda doesn’t qualify as “bad guys” or does he have a disconnect with Obama?

amerpundit on July 15, 2008 at 10:08 PM

Me thinks the bad guys live in Delaware.

Tim Zank on July 15, 2008 at 10:08 PM

Al-Qaeda clearly chose Iraq as the battlefield where they would “defeat the Crusaders” and show the Islamic world that the future lay with them and their cause.

Such a victory would have led to an enormous propaganda and recruiting tool for their cause. Not to mention a tremendous pyschological defeat for the West.

Their defeat in Iraq was absolutely vital in helping turning back radical Islam. To be sure, military victories by themselves won’t defeat the Islamists. But it’s a part of that defeat.

SteveMG on July 15, 2008 at 10:11 PM

The bad guys have (D) behind their names.

SouthernGent on July 15, 2008 at 10:12 PM

I hope the bad guys don’t capture Biden, Hagel and Bambi and torture them. Oops, I forgot, there are no bad guys in Iraq.

Presumably, “Al-Qaeda in Mesopotamia” (as the NY Times likes to call them) doesn’t count.

Old Joe will tell you why. And tell you and tell you and tell you….

Joe Biden is one of these “been-in-the-Senate-way-too-long/legend-in-his-own-mind” kind of politicos that has yet to have one thing to say on anything that could even remotely be considered to be intelligent. The man has been, was, and still is a loudmouth buffoon who will tote the party line regardless of how hairbrained stupid it is. His recent blatherings on where the real “bad guys” are is a clear-cut example of just how out of touch the man is. I would be willing to bet he never asked one intelligence expert anything on this subject. This idiotic statement he made is the product of his own assumption, and nothing more than that!

Greasy Joe aka Plugs, 8-4-2002

Senator Joe Biden (D-DE)
> August 4, 2002

“This is a guy who is an extreme danger to the world, and this is a guy who is in every way possible seeking weapons of mass destruction.”

“I think he has anthrax. I have not seen any evidence that he has smallpox, but you hear them say, Tim (Russert), is the last smallpox outbreak in the world was in Iraq; ergo, he may have a strain.”

“We know he continues to attempt to gain access to additional capability, including nuclear capability.”

“First of all, we don’t know exactly what he has. It’s been five years since inspectors have been in there, number one. Number two, it is clear that he has residual of chemical weapons and biological weapons, number one.”

Greasy Joe supported every single step by Bush in the aftermath of 9-11 and the runup to war in Iraq, including the final vote to invade. As the boys on SCORE in Chicago like to ask “Joe, who you crappin’?”

Last week the ‘foremost expert’ on foreign policy in testimony regarding Iran also maintained that Shia & Sunni’s hate each other and would never cooperate on anything, let alone on killing the enemy Americans which made me chuckle.. That puts him squarely in never never land with Micheal Jackson. Of course he knows the reality, but he’s a huge proponent of the inconvenient truth mentality, if it is inconvenient – you ‘alter’ the truth..

I watch Biden lecturing all the time on the sen foreign relations com. and he is a perfect fit for Obama, they both are propagandists, that’s why many on the left who are the same adore them both so much! Biden literally twists words around to alter meaning on a regular basis, while having full knowledge of the real meaning behind them which is opposite of his implication – He does it to push political agenda while sitting on one of the most senior & important committees around, he would propose he is clever, I call it lying.
