Quote of the day

“I know some say I’ve been too tough on folks about this responsibility stuff. But I’m not going to stop talking about it. Because I believe that in the end, it doesn’t matter how much money we invest in our communities, or how many 10-point plans we propose, or how many government programs we launch — none of it will make any difference if we don’t seize more responsibility in our own lives.”

Who would have thunk that Obama is a conservative? Who needs government if people are responsible?

ThackerAgency on July 14, 2008 at 11:08 PM

Who, that could be a quote from any conservative.
Sound like Obama is pandering shamelessly!

carbon_footprint on July 14, 2008 at 11:11 PM

That was a quote from a conservative – some jokester switched up BO’s speech on the teleprompter apparently.

HawaiiLwyr on July 14, 2008 at 11:13 PM

And BO has the temerity to insist that he’s not sliding to the center for political reasons.

jgapinoy on July 14, 2008 at 11:14 PM

It’s really hard to take responsibility when instead of say, actually raising one’s children, one lives in a country where he or she can be murdered on-demand, even post-birth.

Sorry, it was obligatory in an Obama post.

Damian G. on July 14, 2008 at 11:14 PM

Obama had better watch out– Jesse may be lurking with his knife again.

It’s interesting how the black community cheers when Obama says the same thing for which their black leaders castigate Bill Cosby and Juan Williams.

Kimmer on July 14, 2008 at 11:15 PM

The man who could become the first Black President

…and, at the same time, the 44th White President (he’s half White, you know).

The man is a thief, a pandering thief at that. Look to his history, not the little bromides his handlers feed to him.

Good to hear that from you Hussein. Being responsible is a prerequisite for presidency.

So WHEN can we expect you furnish America with a legal, and/or certified copy of your birth certificate? Because the one that YOU posted on your “Fight the Smears” web site, has been deemed a forgery? BTW, your BC posted on the DailyKos, has been admitted to being faked too.

Obama wants to raise Capitol Gains taxes in the face of a recession, and also believes in partial birth abortion.. ehh conservative he is not.

He doesn’t want his daughters to be “punished” with a baby or an STD if they make a mistake..

Get that? Obama thinks babies are similar to STD’s..

He think that abortion is an OK why out IF his daughters “make a mistake” so, killing a baby is OK, making another mistake is OK..

Chakra Hammer on July 14, 2008 at 11:55 PM

But I’m not going to stop talking about it.

Not going to stop talking about it from now on, he means. I’m pretty sure I’ve never heard it before. I wish I could stop drinking too much beer the way he is going to stop talking about responsibility–tomorrow(once the sh*t hits the fan).

Obama responds–

I don’t know what all this uproar is about, saying I’m “suddenly” talking about personal responsibility–it’s what I’ve been saying all along. The government is responsible for taking care of the people who for some reason can’t take responsibility for themselves–the obvious inference here is that those are able to take responsibility are not the responsibility of the government. Look, if you insist on parsing my words, I’ll put it plainly–the government is of the people (pause), by the people (pause, applause mounting) for the people–the government IS the people (major applause, shouting), so the question of the whether the government, which is the people, is taking care of the people, or whether people are taking care of the people, that is, themselves–it’s just a trick question from people who are against Hopenchange. (Thunderous applause)

Can we spin it? YES WE CAN!!!

smellthecoffee on July 15, 2008 at 12:04 AM

So if we all seize responsibility in our own lives, we don’t need the Obamessiah. So why doesn’t he get lost?

Steve Z on July 15, 2008 at 12:06 AM

Don’t worry folks – he’ll change his opinion on the meaning of this statement in the next news cycle.

Barack Obama: Making Bill Clinton look like a plywood weathervane driven three feet into the ground.

As much change as the Big Wheel on The Price is Right as spun by Lou Ferrigno.

Dusty on July 15, 2008 at 12:42 AM

But that’s not what he really means. He wants people to accept responsibility as long as its directed, administered and forced on them by some government bureaucracy.

Kini on July 15, 2008 at 1:46 AM

Yea, yea, yea. But in Obamaworld, because the underserved communities have been prevented from learning the importance of responsibility, it will take an enormous “investment” to make this happen. After all, there is an entitlement to responsibility, and the government needs to fund that entitlement for as long as it takes one to reach the goal.

eeyore on July 15, 2008 at 1:59 AM

Okay, Obama, you can have responsibility for writing the Thought of the Day in the newspaper every day, you platitudinous b1tch.

Read his speech carefully, folks. The money is to come from you. the taxpayer, as well as from Corporate America. His supporters are only urged to turn the tv off etc. He’s saying that it is your responsibility to improve their lives. Hence the proposed tax increases.

OldEnglish on July 15, 2008 at 4:58 AM

“OldEnglish” is on to the right interpretation, folks:

When The Obamboozler says, “…none of it will make any difference if we don’t seize more responsibility in our own lives,” the WE he is referring to is the Federal Government! Like Michelle BlackPanther Obama sez – Barry will MAKE you do this….

Lockstein13 on July 15, 2008 at 6:05 AM

Obama speaks the truth here. The sad thing is, that is somehow controversial. All one has to do is look at New Orleans during the Katrina disaster to see what the government did for that community.

Terrye on July 15, 2008 at 6:10 AM

He’s saying that it is your responsibility to improve their lives. Hence the proposed tax increases.

OldEnglish on July 15, 2008 at 4:58 AM

Important point. When Obama talks about responsibility, he means to encourage his sycophants to do what they should have been doing all along, and he means to forcibly coerce everyone else to do what he thinks they should do – give up a large chunk of their incomes to his voter base.

Obama won’t cause one single black (or any other race) father to support his children properly, but he will force many millions of Americans to give money they could’ve spent on their own children to the government. Additional responsibility for the already-responsible; additional handouts for the slackers.

Obama wins, we lose.

I can’t stop humming this song…

Oh well I’m the type of guy who will never settle down
Where voters are well, you know that I’m around
I kiss ‘em and I love’em ’cause to me they’re all the same
I hug ‘em and I squeeze ‘em I don’t even know their name
They call me the panderer yeah the panderer
I flip around around around…

Oh well there’s Raza on my left and there’s Greenies on my right
And Indies are the group that I’ll be with tonight
And when they ask me which one I love the best
I tear open my shirt I got Stalin on my chest
‘Cause I’m the panderer yeah the panderer
I flip around around around…

Oh well I flip from town to town
I go through life without a stand
‘Til I’m as happy as a king
With my two fists bumpin’ and I’m going somewhere

I’m the type of guy that likes to flop around
I’m never in one place I flip-flop town to town
And when I find myself a-fallin’ for some issue
I give another speach and flop the other way around
Yeah I’m the panderer yeah the panderer
I flip around around around…

Oh yeah I’m the type of guy that likes to flop around
I’m never in one place I flip-flop town to town
And when I find myself a-standin’ for some issue
I give another speach and flop the other way around
Yeah ’cause I’m a panderer yeah a panderer
I flip around around around…
‘Cause I’m a panderer yeah a panderer
I flip around around around…

“But with providing the guidance our children need, turning off the TV set and putting away the video games; attending those parent-teacher conferences, helping our children with their homework, setting a good example. That’s what everybody’s got to do.”

He added: “I know some say I’ve been too tough on folks talking about responsibility

That’s talking tough?
Telling parents to go to parent-teacher conferences, helping with homework, setting a good example?
That’s what he considers being “tough on folks”.
This may be our next (shudder) Commander in Chief…how tough is he going to be to them…
I expect you all to listen to your DI, and set a good example. I know this sounds tough, but be in bed early also.

I’m thinking that this is the sort of “responsibility” Barry wants from us as taxpayers:

The newly elected head of the nation’s largest teachers union on Monday called on school districts nationwide to create community schools that would offer services to students and their families ranging from health care to recreation.

Speaking to about 3,300 conventioneers at Navy Pier, American Federation of Teachers President Randi Weingarten said minority students need the help to bridge the achievement gap between them and their white counterparts.

Weingarten, who was picked Monday to head the 1.4 million member union, called on federal officials to draft legislation that would create schools that could offer “dental, medical and counseling clinics,” along with other services.

“Can you imagine a federal law that promoted community schools: schools that serve the neediest children by bringing together under one roof all the services and activities they and their families need?” Weingarten said.

Buy Danish on July 15, 2008 at 9:00 AM

What he says is true. I only wish it was coming from a someone that is not an opportunist. When it comes from Obama all I hear is “Vote for me white people, I’m not Jesse Jackson, promise!”

I can’t wait until he refutes Affirmative Action. Which he may have to do if he hopes to win Missouri (The ballot initiative to end AA did not turn in enough signatures)and Colorado. He has already shown his hand. He will say he supports Affirmative Action, based on income not race.

Someone should force the issue. If Obama is forced to come out against race based policies, that is another bucket of water on the hard left’s enthusiasm. I’ve already have black people I know lamenting over his support of gay marriage, and abortion. Refuting AA is icing on the cake.

If only he had taken his mothers maiden name and remained “Barry” …

HOPE! that CHANGE! will produce CHANGE! or CHANGE! will produce HOPE!?

I got it! HOPE! that no one notices how often he CHANGE!s his positions on every issue under the sun and that he can perhaps fool “most of the people some of the time”, or at least for just one day in November.

That’s the best I can come up with.
