Obama: Immigration enforcement = terror

Barack Obama spoke to the National Council of La Raza and in one sentence managed to do what most Hot Air readers would consider the impossible — he put distance between himself and John McCain on immigration. Calling the ICE terrorists, Obama made his position on border security and immigration enforcement plain. He thinks they’re fascist:
When communities are terrorized by ICE immigration raids, when nursing mothers are torn from their babies, when children come home from school to find their parents missing, when people are detained without access to legal counsel, when all that is happening, the system just isn’t working, and we need to change it.
So now the US government is a terrorist organization? Not only does this demonstrate his demagoguery on immigration, it also shows his cluelessness in the war on terrorists. If he can’t tell the difference between al-Qaeda and ICE, then not only should he not be President, but Illinois needs to answer for his selection as a Senator.
The ICE raids workplaces when they have probable cause to suspect an employer of hiring illegal aliens. They arrest workers who have false IDs and/or cannot prove their identification. The ICE takes pains to find children who have been in school when these raids occur and no other guardian can be found, and unless I missed a news story, ICE agents do not tear babies from nursing mothers’ breasts. Does Obama have a citation for that, or does he just feel like lying to people to make ICE agents sound like Nazi brownshirts?
And if that’s what Obama thinks of ICE, why has he done nothing about them during the three years he’s been in the Senate?
Illegal workers wouldn’t get rounded up and arrested by ICE if they hadn’t entered the country illegally. When people break the law, they’d better be prepared to get arrested. If Obama wants to change that, then let him propose the bill that does it, which thus far in his career he has declined to do. Until then, Obama had better do some studying to learn the difference between American law enforcement and terrorists.
Update: The nursing story turns out to be true, at least partially:
Federal immigration agents were searching a house in Ohio last month when they found a young Honduran woman nursing her baby.
The woman, Saída Umanzor, is an illegal immigrant and was taken to jail to await deportation. Her 9-month-old daughter, Brittney Bejarano, who was born in the United States and is a citizen, was put in the care of social workers.
The story never claims that the baby was “torn” from her mother’s breast though; apparently ICE waited until Umanzor finished the feeding to arrest her. And pardon my indifference, but nursing mothers who break the law don’t have immunity from arrest and detention. (via Bill from Wizbang)

Thank you Senator Obama!

He has no clue.

Reworded a different way, this paragraph could be entitled the Winter Immigrant:
Our government has committed several crimes through its ICE department, not isolated incidents but crimes committed on a day-to-day basis with the full awareness of officers at all levels of command….
They told the stories at times they had personally raped, cut off ears, cut off limbs, ripped babies from their nursing mothers, randomly shot at civilians, razed immigrant water stations in fashion reminiscent of Genghis Khan…
Outlander on July 14, 2008 at 7:24 AM
Whoever wrote that phrase for the Messiah should be slapped in the back of the head.
Why stop there? Why not deaf nursing mothers? Oh and blind babies, yeah, blind babies left to cry for their mothers. Torn from their mothers’ bosom and thrown on the floor by men with black helmets and guns. Mothers whose only crime was seeking a better life for their children, lead away in hand cuffs and waterboarded, waterboarded, I say! Did I mention the babies are blind?

Don’t ask me why, but for whatever reason, the Democratic Party here in Illinois has had a somewhat consistent track record for sending certified morons to the Senate. They sent Dickie Durbin, they sent Carol Moseley Braun, and they sent B.O. On the other hand, the Republicans actually had a stellar guy in Peter Fitzgerald sitting in the seat currently occupied by B.O., but what happened there was that the Republican Party in Illinois is currently somewhat corrupt and a shadow of what it once was when Everett Dirksen was in the Senate. Fitzgerald had the courage to stand up to the corrupt politicos in the Republican Party, including the current stinks at the head big tuna, Big Bob Kjellander, and it cost Fitzgerald his Senate seat. Exit Fitzgerald, enter B.O. So if you want to thank anyone in Illinois for B.O. presently smelling up that Senate seat he sits in right now, thank Big Bob Kjellander and the rest of the deep-pocketed politicos in the Illinois Republican Party.

I have devised away to solve our illegal immigration problem.
We pass a law stating that all illegal immigrants are 6 year olds from Cuba named Elian.
That should take care of it.
Blarg the Destroyer on July 14, 2008 at 7:37 AM
One cannot say Comrade B,H. Obama is playing to the Left on this position. In his world, immigrants are needed as ‘Domestics’ taking care of the Obama dacha and the Washington D.C. townhouse. If ICE were doing its job, all those ‘Domestics’ would need to be smuggled in.
SeniorD on July 14, 2008 at 7:40 AM
Only whites can be racist and let’s not even talk about white Christians. They make whites look like, well I don’t know, nice racists or something like that. What’s that you say? Hispanics are really part of the white race? Silly person, you can just look at them and tell there are not white. Remember it’s only whites that notice skin color and any darker skinned person is a different minority race that is oppressed by evil white fascists. Unless they are Asian then they don’t count. No not the Muslim Asians silly, you know just what ones I’m talking about.
jmarcure on July 14, 2008 at 7:42 AM
Here it is again.
Someone breaks the law, and it’s out fault and it becomes our problem and not theirs.
Separating families?
The same insipid argument could be used to say that murderers and drug dealers should not be torn from their families either.
drjohn on July 14, 2008 at 7:43 AM
When the facts don’t support an Obama argument, he just fabricates some “facts” that do. This is just like when he told an audience that last year, hate crimes against Hispanics doubled because of anti-immigrant rhetoric. In fact, in the last year for which crime statistics are available, crimes against Hispanics increased by less than 20%.
Obama just makes crap up as he goes along.
AZCoyote on July 14, 2008 at 7:49 AM
I think he got his talking points confused. This sounds alot like what John Kerry said about our brave Iraqi soldiers. He just left out the “dead of night” part.

You know, you’re right. I never thought of it that way and what about all the people that work every day. Babies being torn from their mother’s breast because that mother is forced into working for white capitalist pigs just to buy baby milk for her sick baby. I say do away with prisons and jobs because it is the only fair and humane option. Everyone should be able to live free and never have to worry about laws, police, money, housing, healthcare or borders. It’s about time we make those rich capitalist white racists give back the money they have stolen from the mouths of babies feeding at their mothers breasts.

Terrorists? How can you call people that uphold and defend the laws of the land by providing a means for woman to exercise their God given unalienable rights granted by the Constitution terrorists? That would be like comparing them to the jackbooted thugs of the ICE and that would judgmental.
jmarcure on July 14, 2008 at 8:23 AM
Imagine the audacity of a U.S. law enforcement agency thinking it actually has the right to enforce the laws of the U.S. against foreign lawbreakers. What nerve!
And hey, Obama, when are we going to hear a speech from you about the Mexican criminals trying to kill U.S. Border Patrol agents as the criminals illegally cross (and re-cross, and re-cross) our southern border; or all the hospitals in the southwest that have been forced to close because so many illegals have received “free” (i.e. U.S. taxpayer-funded) medical treatment that the hospitals can no longer afford to provide services to actual citizens; or the hospitals that remain open and devote most of their time and budget to birthing the babies of illegal Mexicans who cross the border to give birth in the U.S. (at U.S. taxpayer expense) so that they can sign up their “American” newborns for U.S. welfare benefits; or the hundreds of thousands of illegal aliens living in U.S. prisons, at U.S. taxpayer expense, serving time for committing violent crimes against American citizens; or the Mexican government’s practice of printing up maps of our border, showing the easiest ways for Mexican citizens to sneak illegally into the U.S.; or the billions of U.S. tax dollars that are expended every year to pay for “free” schooling and other benefits for illegal aliens; or the . . . oh forget it. We know whose side you’re on in this fight, Obama, and it’s not the side of the American citizen. So keep peddling your sob stories about the poor, mistreated illegal aliens, Obama. The majority of Americans know who the real victims in this saga are.
AZCoyote on July 14, 2008 at 8:24 AM

He is definitely on a downward spiral.
becki51758 on July 14, 2008 at 8:24 AM
I hope McCain listens to this. God’s Children break the law and should be punished for doing so. We need to demonstrate to the world that we are enforcing our laws. Cubans are now going to Mexico to cross the border! USA can enforce along the coast line but not on land? Does that make any sense?
This should be a sounbite for a republican ad, but our guy is for handling the situation with kid gloves.

And you people have it all wrong. Brother Obama doesn’t have what it takes to write this stuff, it’s being written for him. Evidently by either retarded monkeys, or operatives who are out to hurt him.
thekingtut on July 14, 2008 at 8:47 AM
I can picture the Zuckers doing an ad similar to their North Korea ad, with Obama talking about ICE “terrorizing” immigrants and standing in front of an assorted group of people including:
- Terrorists wearing that white-and-black checkered thing Arafat always did, with a sombrero over it;
- Drug dealers
- Pimps
“These brave immigrants have endured so much hardship by ICE and yet all they want to do is come to America, do the jobs Americans won’t, and live the American dream!”

Apparently the Soviet experiment / experience was too remote and too historically dim to make an impression on Obama. Buckled up !!!!!!!!! It’s going to be a bumpy ride…
It is aso going to be gut wrenching to watch the US turn to $hit over the next 4 years whichever of these two loosers get elected.
We conservitives must come up with a plan to counteract the poisonous effect of McCain and Obama. Make no mistake about it, the going will get tough either way, but we must develop a plan to minimize the impending amnesty disaster.
saiga on July 14, 2008 at 10:16 AM
I propose we select a write in candidate that won’t win, but will demonstrate the anger of conservitives, and create a banner and stake in the ground for disgusted moderates to identify with. When the issue is illuminated more forthrightly, many in the middle will begin to realise that demonstrating to illegals that lying, cheating, and stealing is not the right way to achieve your goals in the USA.
We can then set up fundraising, and countermand every move either one of these jokers make. I sincerely believe amnesty was a disaster last time because it promoted illegal immigration in a huge scale. I think amnesty this time will be tipping point to complete the distruction of the rule of law that has caused the great success the USA has enjoyed.
saiga on July 14, 2008 at 10:26 AM
Actually, this is a bit frightening. McCain may feel the need to outpander Obama in McCain’s upcoming La Raza presentation. Surely he wouldn’t so blatant, would he??

right4life on July 14, 2008 at 10:30 AM
The war on drugs and the war on poverty had good intentions, but they were flawed because the government can’t protect an individual from himself.
A war on illegal immigration is a different thing. If the government wants to have compassion on Latinos trapped in corruption down south, then they should open up legal immigration. To piss all over rhe rule of law is insane.
saiga on July 14, 2008 at 10:30 AM
20 million, that is not law breaking, that is an invasion! we considered 150,000 at D-Day and invasion, then what is 20 million, 20 MILLION.

GarandFan on July 14, 2008 at 10:32 AM
OK, so it turns out that a baby was indeed taken from its mother back in October 2007. Not literally ripped from its mother’s arms, but a baby that was being breastfed at the time.
Ms. Umanzor and her husband were both here illegally, as well as the oldest of their 3 children. Their other 2 children were born in the U.S. Indeed, there were 6 children in the house – 5 of them born in the US to illegal immigrants.
According to the NY Times article, ICE has since changed it’s practices when it comes to breastfed children. So Obama saying that this still happens is pure B.S.
But then – what did we expect?
KrisinNE on July 14, 2008 at 10:32 AM
It is a tragedy of epic proportion. It would be one thing if the congress was decent, but they are as bad as these two carpetbaggers. I feel a duty to the US to do something to help head off the disaster, but feel utterly helpless.
And, the worst thing about it is the American electorate represents the agent that ushered in the impending tragedy. I am a law and order guy, and the majority of the general puplic appears not to give a hoot in a rainbarrel about it. It makes me ill.
Future American success that might come will come in spite of the voting public. Once the rats are in charge of the cheese, the cheese will be gone in no time.
saiga on July 14, 2008 at 10:38 AM
That is the exact kind of problem you get when you fail to enforce the laws designed to avoid this. These people are not the problem, but the symptom of the problem. Ignoring the law is the root proble.
saiga on July 14, 2008 at 10:41 AM
absolutely. most of the people in this country thinks the state should be their father, and take care of them. This is the result of Gransci’s ‘long march’ through the institutions that the left has done. so many of them are convinced that the USA is evil…so they’ll turn it into the USSA, where some pigs are more equal than others, and freedom is just a memory.
its already not the country I grew up in.
right4life on July 14, 2008 at 10:44 AM
How many states in the north central US does it take to make 20 million. Granting amnesty will unleash voters that have learned from experience that lying, cheating, and stealing is the most effective way to reach goals, and their voting patterns will absolutely reflect it.
Stupid, stupid, stupid, stupid.
McCain and Obama both know this, but their shameless pandering refects a charecter flaw that is very dangerous. To me, it is the same mentality as organized crime bosses. Whatever it takes to be the boss.
saiga on July 14, 2008 at 10:47 AM
No kidding. When I attemt to get my mind around the
$65,000,000,000.00 dollars
($65 BILLION) the US flushed down the toilet in New Orleans that didn’t build one house or fix one levee, I’m stunned.
If you subsidise something, you get more of it. This demonstrates to me that our government definately wants more helpless souls riding in the wagon and less pulling the wagon. I just can’t understand.
What these people really need is a kick in the butt, but the US gives them a check instead. Has the government concluded that no matter what, these people just will never be capable of competing in the US economy because they are mentally handicapt? If so, that is nothing short of shamefull. This money could have been much better spent on making sure these people are led off the dole and challenged to improve their lot in life. Instead, the incentive is 180 degrees off.

For starters the president of La Raza introduced him as “…the next pres…mhhh…the pres…mhhhh…presump…tive…democratic nominee”. Then all cheered and he started with “I’m with La Raza. Si, se puede”. Cheers to no end.
Inevitability is not what you think, La Raza, and Obama.
Then he spoke of being one of them, of, as president, giving them all and more than any other American citizen, literally. You would have thought that the recession is suffered by Latinos and that the white person causes them more grief than is imaginable.
He not once mentioned any national issues/challenges, not once mentioned Iraq.
80% of the attendants thought that he wasnt hispandering, and 20% thought that he was.
His low voice and the cadencing are truly insufferable, especially when he sounds like he can, in Messianic form, just grab to the sky and solve the downtroddens’ every problem and fulfill all their whims.
What’s worse is that today McCain will hispander just the same.

Since we’re quoting Brits, I like the SAS motto better.
He who dares, wins.

Unless Obama could PROVE that ICE agents forcibly separated a nursing mother from her baby, couldn’t ICE sue Obama for slander? Let’s hear about this in a court of law!
Then again, if Obama likes babies so much, why is he willing to let them die if they survive an abortion attempt, something even Hillary Clinton voted to outlaw?
Of course, if anybody ever challenged the Big O about the “nujrsing mothers torn from their babies” statement, he would just say that he spoke inartfully and the MSM would give him a pass, and all the La Raza people will vote for Obama against the Invasion of the Baby Snatchers.

its easier to keep power when people are unable to care for themselves, or think for themselves…thats the state of the democratic party today.
with the republicans trailing right along…

This is yet another “word manipulation” act by Obama: he’s forcing a wrong interpretation of the very word, “terrorism (terrorist),” and it’s not by accident or blunder that he is. It’s quintessential Communist manipulation, as also used to agitate by the Weatherman, La Raza and other ACTUAL domestic terrorist organizations. Obama is nothing more than a smiling coward. He’s a coward, plain and simple, nothing more than your runofthemill coward. This speech by Obama is despicable.

Since Barry O from the barrio wants all Americans to learn Spanish, why didn’t he speak to La Raza in Spanish?

O
Yes.
