Will Kurtz Slam the L.A. Times Web Site for the Commenters Who Reveled in Tony Snow’s Death?

Tomorrow there will be an online chat with Howard Kurtz at the Washington Post web site. You can leave questions or comments for him here. Here is the question I just left:
Mr. Kurtz:
When Ted Kennedy was diagnosed with a brain tumor, you made a special point of noting in your column that there were commenters at Michelle Malkin’s site “who were reveling in the news and, in one case, talked of celebrating.”
Over the weekend, Tony Snow died. At the L.A. Times web site — where comments must be approved before they appear — well over 2 dozen commenters reveled in the news. Some examples:
“CANCER WAS TOO GOOD FOR HIM. HOPE IT WAS PAINFUL. NOW FOR THE REST OF THIS SCUMMY ADMINISTRATION. COME ON CANCER, DO YOUR GOOD WORK………………..”
“I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the first day of a Tony Snow-free world! Yay!!!!”
“I only wish his suffering were more prolonged.”
“I hope he suffered at the end. Just a terrible person.”
My question to you, Mr. Kurtz: is this worthy of mention in your column? Is it meaningful that one of the nation’s largest newspapers approved these comments for publication? Or are such comments relevant only when they appear on a conservative blogger’s site?
What are the odds that they will ask Mr. Kurtz to respond?

Clintons/Bushs, of course…

Look on the bright side – with Pres Obama, you will get 8 more years to be angry. As for the Dems and the war they have capitulated on every funding bill to date — egregious behavior, sure but in the end they did nothing to alter things. Your son wouldn’t go for another hitch if it were that bad nor would I want him to — voting with one’s feet is the only real protest our military people can demonstrate.
Bradky on July 13, 2008 at 8:00 PM
Thanks Entelechy. And in retrospect,Bradky’s comments were good. I believe he is spot on.
JonRoss on July 13, 2008 at 8:01 PM
Thanks for that and for your son’s service. Retired last year and understand the mil lifestyle all too well.
Entelechy,
Good as always to see you around.
regards,

My son and I both support U.S. actions taken in Iraq. The execution has been crappy though. Believe me when I say his life would be more easy in the civilian job he had prior to joining the USMC. He has done two tours in Iraq and is packing for another in Afghanistan. My frustration lies in the damage the Democrats and Republicans are doing to the military members. The Democrats are doing it actively, the Republican passively. But they are both equally guilty in my humble opinion.
JonRoss on July 13, 2008 at 8:11 PM
Thank you for your service Bradky.
JonRoss on July 13, 2008 at 8:12 PM
Yes, they have hurt us very much for the long term — getting people to volunteer for guard and reserve is going to be very tough. I’m old enough to remember the “hollow military” of the seventies and am thankful we are far far away from the problems we had then.
Bradky on July 13, 2008 at 8:16 PM
Indeed, and the same for Bradky on July 13, 2008 at 8:16 PM
Since I already respected you 100% Bradky, what am I going to do now, after you said that you retired last year? I say what all Soldiers deserve to know, for myriad of reasons – you are indeed our betters. With the same fond regards, and happiness that you’re back, and posting here.
p.s. my friend, Bradky, shhhhhh Obama is not a sure deal for Nov. Hillary can tell you a thing, or two, about inevitability. I think he peaked too soon, aside from no experience and a lot of other shortcomings.
Entelechy on July 13, 2008 at 8:22 PM
Just to emphasize the predicament we’re in, these are the very people who believe they they have the answer for achieving peace with others.
Tony Snow was among the most gentle men in Washington D.C. How morally screwed up do you have to be to attack someone like Tony?
The fact that they can’t control their violent urges at the hour of Tony’s death suggests to me something dark inside; this is confirmed in their loathing of Christianity; it’s as if they’re physically repulsed by the real face of peace.

As public affairs director of the American Hemorrhoids for Change Coalition, I must insist that you retract your demeaning comparison. This is an outrage.

No quote Gary Oldman, “Nil by mouth.”

What a pain in the ass.

This is a reminder that when Ted Kennedy joins the millions of babies that he’s championed the abortion of we shouldn’t say nasty things.
Mojave Mark on July 13, 2008 at 11:00 PM
Entelechy,
Thanks for the very kind words. I appreciate the sentiment but like most vets we did what we were asked to do and don’t see it as that big of a deal. The ones who didn’t come back or came back maimed and suffering are the people who are our betters. For me it was a privilege to know them and I stand in their shadow.
On a lighter note – I think you are on point about inevitability. Nov is still a long way away.
Regards,
Bradky on July 13, 2008 at 11:25 PM
I should have put the comments I was quoting in a quote box. The stem cell item was something an idiot posted at washingtonpost.com
Kind of like this creep reveling away:

I am speechless. I just went to MsUnderestimated’s site and watched the video with Tony and Dick Gregory. It was the most touch and poignant thing I have ever seen. At one point, in talking about a paper his son wrote about him, Tony choked up and said “It’s great to love someone that much.” I am absolutely flabbergasted that anyone could post something like this about anyone. But Tony Snow was special. I am sure he wouldn’t say so, but I know that he was.
Glynn on July 14, 2008 at 12:47 AM
touch =touching. Sorry.
Glynn on July 14, 2008 at 12:47 AM
Indeed. We salute you all, them in particular. We must be eternally greatful.
Entelechy on July 14, 2008 at 12:54 AM
How utterly disgusting. These people turn my stomach.
As commenter Janos Hunyadi quoted on the other thread dedicated to Tony Snow:
“…lesser men live on, while good men die.”
The likes of George Soros, Michael Moore and the detestable vermin on these left-wing blogs are a testament to that.
labrat on July 14, 2008 at 2:25 AM
First word: L.A. = fruitcake liberals
Second word: Obsessive Compulsive Disorder
These creepy dolts bask in the afterglow of Tony Snow’s death because they hate their enemies, although they preach to us the words of Christ that we should love our enemies. Essentially they hate their enemies so much and fear their own demise so much that they’re glad it was someone else, not them, becuase they know soon and very soon they’ll be gazing upward from hell at Tony Snow’s heels. Ooo, that makes ‘em mad. The kind of hatred they exhibit in their words stops at the Pearly Gates and has no entrance, so they’re in deep doo-doo.
I think they’re so crazy-angry because they know that how they live their lives is beneath the way that a Tony Snow lived his. When your wife and children adore you, you truly have it all. That was Tony Snow.
Amy Proctor on July 14, 2008 at 3:47 AM
That’s the thing with as*holes – each side of the political aisle has ‘em.
No point in wasting a shred of energy talking about them, complaining about them or crybabying about them. They will always be there. Take the high road and move on.
Next.

If the RNC had any brains, they would make a commercial with Obama offering to debate anywhere, anytime, then a list of all the debates Obama has declined.
MarkTheGreat on July 14, 2008 at 7:11 AM
Dear Lord! – Is this what the seeming anonymity of the internet has brought out in people? The sheer vitriol and hatred unleashed is scary. What we have become as a society?
Logic on July 14, 2008 at 9:40 AM
I guess they just expect classlessness and lowest common denominator behavior from their own. I expected it, why disappoint? They are the party of no class, whose parents never bothered to pay attention to them or raise them properly, who are angry at the world because they are sociaital rejects – most likely the last picked for any sport or any activity all their lives – so they get attention by acting in the most vile way possible. It’s what’s worked all of their lives. These are people who know that if they acted appropriately, they would otherwise be invisible.
foxforce91 on July 14, 2008 at 10:00 AM
I meant: if they acted appropriately the would be invisible.
foxforce91 on July 14, 2008 at 10:02 AM
There are so many cowards from the extremist ends of the left and right that represent nothing, but the vile and sick opinions shared by only the most mentally ill among us. Human trash has been a part of mankind since our existence. Those who revel in the deimise of anyone only reinforce that fact.
volsense on July 14, 2008 at 11:49 AM
Although you can always count on it from the more mainstream left. I have heard lefty friends of mine wish they could assasinate our president; I have never ever heard that talk coming from conservatives that I know – even the ones on this and Michelle Malkin’s message boards – and if someone did act like that here, nearly everyone on this board would condemn them. No, it’s more acceptable and prevalent on the left – and not on the fringes of the left, either.
foxforce91 on July 14, 2008 at 1:12 PM
Snow lied and spun for the administration. If you don’t like people that lie for criminals the of course you won’t think that the country has lost anything of value by his passing. If you rely on people like Snow to give you your thoughts so you can defend the criminals you would think that his passing has been a very important loss. It’s pretty much that simple. I have been on both sides of the coin in the past decade so I know how pretty much both of you feel. The ones that defend people like snow are pretty much in denial, they know it down deep, but as long as everyone you get your information from keep saying the same thing you think you are on the right side.
LevStrauss on July 14, 2008 at 1:22 PM
How is your religious leader Phelps doing?
right2bright on July 14, 2008 at 1:53 PM
Your statement is laughable. I guarantee that I don’t rely on anyone for my thoughts: I’m smart enough to think for myself. I’ve already been on the left and I grew out of it. I also know more about politics and how things work in DC than you ever can or will: I grew up in and around it.
I know you’re a Ron Paul supporter, which basically just means that you want to be a Republican, but it’s not “rebellious” or cool enough. Just because someone doesn’t believe in wacky, demented conspiracy theories or isn’t paranoid to the extent that they think the CIA is tapping their phone line, (they’re not, btw – don’t trust those voices in your head,) doesn’t mean we’re gullible.
foxforce91 on July 14, 2008 at 3:37 PM
While I am saddened to see the outrageous comments made by powerless and pathetic little people on the Times’ site and on other Liberal blogs, I have to say that none of that will ever tarnish who Tony Snow was, what he stood for, or how he comported himself.
RIP, Tony. May the Lord look over your family in their time of grief, and may he make us see the schmoos for what they really are: unimportant.
Tennman on July 14, 2008 at 5:12 PM
That’s your opinion. However, it certainly shows a lack of upbringing and common decency to express it after his death and stupidity to post it here.
