But what I love about political cartoonists – at least, what I’ll love about them until I open up the paper and see a drawing of my big ears accompanied by something that came out of my big mouth – is that they cut through the conventional wisdom and just tell it like it is. People like Herblock and Tony Auth and others can jolt us awake from our political cynicism with a few ingenious images and a clever phrase that can often speak more truth than a thousand words. And this is the kind of wake-up call our politics needs today more than ever.

The Obama campaign quickly condemned the rendering. Spokesman Bill Burton said in a statement: “The New Yorker may think, as one of their staff explained to us, that their cover is a satirical lampoon of the caricature Senator Obama’s right-wing critics have tried to create. But most readers will see it as tasteless and offensive. And we agree.”

Hell, half the satire stuff I don’t like but I just look past it and shake my head. Yes, I see this as satire, satire on how obama treated the flag pin, how he said he’d “talk” to the likes of iran which to me shows weakness, how his wife acts militaristic in her speeches and flat scary in her reasoning, how whether or not he likes it, he DOES have a background of islam (and let’s not forget the supposedly christian (cough cough) advisor that god damned america)…and that STUPID bump with the knuckles looks like two tag team WWFers going into a ring and beating someone up (aggressive style imo). I’ve not seen a more disrespectful couple run for the white house.

Saying he is “sympathetic to late night comedians’ struggle to find jokes to make about me,” Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill) today issued a list of official campaign-approved Barack Obama jokes.

The five jokes, which Sen. Obama said he is making available to all comedians free of charge, are as follows:

Barack Obama and a kangaroo pull up to a gas station. The gas station attendant takes one look at the kangaroo and says, “You know, we don’t get many kangaroos here.” Barack Obama replies, “At these prices, I’m not surprised. That’s why we need to reduce our dependence on foreign oil.”

A traveling salesman knocks on the door of a farmhouse, and much to his surprise, Barack Obama answers the door. The farm was foreclosed on because of subprime loans that are making a mockery of the American Dream.”

A horse walks into a bar. The bartender says, “Why the long face?” Barack Obama replies, “His jockey just lost his health insurance, which should be the right of all Americans.”

Barack Obama: The New Yorker magazine, which should be embarrassed after publishing such a tasteless and offensive cover, which I reject and denounce.

if you are going to explain by saying things like, “We don’t mean to offend YOU. We’re poking fun at how stupid and ignorant those other guys are. See?” it is helpful to make sure the “other guys” are safely ensconced in a soundproof booth. Umm, people? We can hear you.

Why didn’t they include a “Che!” poster in the cartoon? Oh, that’s right, because this is supposed to be satire…

But ya know, it accurately portrays them as I see em. Like this!

A good friend who used to be extremely Liberal and big on government programs began divinity school shortly after his recent retirement, in part to rethink his ways, and in part to become more active in his church through sermons and direct support. As he approaches his sixties he’s begun questioning The Sixties and where the Great Society has led pop culture. That fellow’s mindset may not be common on the Left Coast or in New Yawk State but in his part of the Heartland he’s visibly leaning towards a Reagan mode of realizing the Democrat Party current leadership of hate and blame has completely left him and alienates and attacks his core principles.

But…it will play over and over and over again in places where folks don’t get the high brow, smug, humor; common folks will just see this picture on a big high faluten New York magazine and believe the Hussein’s are the extreme muslim jihad couple. Thanks New Yorker.
