From what I´ve understood in my classes on the subject, both houses have traditionally been given wide latitude in this area (i.e. making up rules). Also, since this is more a “rule of proceeding” (above) than a true law (which the First Amendment refers to) it´s plenty of wiggle room for any justice who had the mind to allow it (i.e. the censorship).

Even makes you wonder if they might not kick CSPAN out.

Pelosi says no to C-SPAN operating its cameras

Speaker-to-be Nancy Pelosi cited the need to preserve the “dignity and decorum” of the House as she rejected a request Friday that C-SPAN operate its own cameras in covering the chamber.

The public service network has provided gavel-to-gavel television coverage of House proceedings since 1979. But the House leader has kept control of the cameras, with coverage generally limited to tight shots of the speaker or the podium.

The situation is similar in the Senate, which C-SPAN has televised since 1986.

C-SPAN’s chairman and chief executive told Pelosi, D-Calif., that under this arrangement, cameras are prevented “from taking individual reaction shots or from panning the chamber, leaving viewers with an incomplete picture of what’s happening in the House of Representatives.”

I can’t imagine how this infringement of free speech could make it past the supremes. But I’m still amazed that habeas made it into Gitmo. Ginzberg, etc., might do anything to keep conservative congressmen from having an audience. Even makes you wonder if they might not kick CSPAN out.

Democrats seem a little thin-skinned about free speech and criticism.

Can you imagine if President Bush would have at any time responded to free speech and criticism in the way liberals do?

He certainly could have picked any day of the calendar and come down hard.

Amen! Today I learned a father was arrested the other day for “assulting” a predator who attacked his son in the public restroom at a local supermarket. The father has been charged with assault and battery and the pervert (with a record) was back to work to assault other little boys in the restroom the next day. I wondered at that moment when my fellow Massachusetts residents were going to grab the pitchforks and head for Beacon Hill to take back our State and our country. I’ve had enough! ENOUGH! I’m mad as Hell and I’m not going to take it anymore!

I remember going to Boston the first time. I looked at the first house of congress. Outside the plaque read that this was the first building ever built in the history of the world where common man could come in and listen to their representatives make laws. It was built with that in mind, where in the balcony common man could hold in judgment their elected officials…tell you the truth, it brought a tear to my eye, it was so touching and moving.
I think Pelosi and the rest of the Dems should all have a copy of that plaque.
Imagine the first official house built by congress, and it was for the opposite of what the Dems want to do now. The lives and fortunes lost, so the Dems can throw it away.
