I don’t believe it was in God’s name. Why would two adults, who just met at a buffet, have sex on a public beach in ANY country? Good grief, is this not just more than a tad bit irresponsible and sluttish. They were warned once (a favor most Muslim nations would never grant) and when caught again, she assaulted the policemen physically and verbally. I’m sorry, I have no pity for either one of them.

Here’s some good advice: Don’t go to dubai unless you are a arab muslim man.

Here’s some good advice: don’t go to another country if you plan on violating the host country’s laws. This stupid couple was warned by police and then offended again. I am disappointed to see so many Republicans throwing aside basic morality and common sense in their lust for bashing Islam.

In Korea, we have U.S. soldiers in Korean jails for using prostitutes, for rape, for violence against cab drivers. So are you people suggesting that they should be able to do what they want no matter what the laws are? If you can’t do the time, don’t do the crime. It’s that simple. This couple deserves what they get.

German childbirth rate lowest since WW2

BERLIN: The number of children born in Germany last year fell to its lowest level since at least World War Two, data showed on Friday, putting the birth rate well below that required to maintain the current population.

The Federal Statistics Office estimated that between 680,000 and 690,000 children were born in Germany last year, implying a birth rate of between 1.33 and 1.36 children per woman – one of the lowest rates in the European Union.

It noted some 2.1 births per woman were needed to keep the population steady.

Although the birth rate was as low as 1.24 in 1994, the number of children has gone down for years, because the pool of women able to give birth has been shrinking steadily.

Domestic politics is awash with proposals to make Germany a more family-friendly place. Economists warn that unless the demographic trend improves fast, the economy will suffer and the country could be unable to meet its long-term liabilities.

Germany’s welfare system, funded by contributions from those in work, has come under increasing strain in recent years as life expectancy has increased and the number of those paying in has fallen.

**Economists warn that, unless the decrease is reversed; Europe’s largest economy will go into terminal decline, with pensions and health care costs soaring as the average age gets higher and higher.

The average age in German is 42 compared with 24 in India for example.

The New Criterion:

When it comes to forecasting the future, the birthrate is the nearest thing to hard numbers. If only a million babies are born in 2006, it’s hard to have two million adults enter the workforce in 2026 . And the hard data on babies around the Western world is that they’re running out a lot faster than the oil is. “Replacement” fertility rate—i.e., the number you need for merely a stable population, not getting any bigger, not getting any smaller—is 2.1 babies per woman. Some countries are well above that: the global fertility leader, Somalia, is 6.91, Niger 6.83, Afghanistan 6.78, Yemen 6.75. Notice what those nations have in common?

Scroll way down to the bottom of the Hot One Hundred top breeders and you’ll eventually find the United States, hovering just at replacement rate with 2.07 births per woman. Ireland is 1.87, New Zealand 1.79, Australia 1.76. But Canada’s fertility rate is down to 1.5, well below replacement rate; Germany and Austria are at 1.3, the brink of the death spiral; Russia and Italy are at 1.2; Spain 1.1, about half replacement rate. That’s to say, Spain’s population is halving every generation. By 2050, Italy’s population will have fallen by 22%, Bulgaria’s by 36%, Estonia’s by 52%. In America, demographic trends suggest that the blue states ought to apply for honorary membership of the EU: In the 2004 election, John Kerry won the 16 with the lowest birthrates; George W. Bush took 25 of the 26 states with the highest. By 2050, there will be 100 million fewer Europeans, 100 million more Americans—and mostly red-state Americans.

You can read the rest of the analysis. Bottom line is that Europeans are not replacing themselves and Muslims are. They out-procreate the Europeans 4-1. You have to look at projections based on birthrates, not current populations.

I’ll have a little more respect for Dubai’s morality laws when they explain this. Until then, I’ll do my drinking here.

Now obviously I don’t condone lewdness or public indecency but to extend to the legal system of Dubai a fig leaf of respect gags in the throat.

Makes sense to me.

you didn’t say it, I said it. But I don’t agree that avoiding Dubai is a necessity. It’s a wonderful place to visit and has practically none of the contraints of it’s sister Arab countries.

The authorities will make an example out of them and then they will be sent home for a win/win.

Pretty silly behavior in general, let alone in an Islamic country.

If getting jumpy in public is there thing, how about drinking a few pints at a football match and taking a visit under the seats…..but go early lest you get wet from the used beer from above.

Okay but I think there should be a public warning to tourists – if not quite a travel ban – to avoid Dubai and places like it.

I can’t agree with this. Dubai is actually quite lovely and extremely liberal for an Arab country. They even allow Christian churches. Why in the world do people have to be warned not to have sex in PUBLIC? Good grief! And by the way, Dubai isa fun place to go on holiday, especially if one has spent a year wearing a neck to toe abbaya and face covering!

Yes, you can. One can fight against extremism in any facet of life. When one takes a stance against an extremist, one is fighting extremism.

I will agree, however, that the phrase, “war on terror is incorrect” – against terrorism is more accurate.
