The Ed Morrissey Show: canceled for today
posted at 1:30 pm on July 9, 2008 by Ed Morrissey
Unfortunately, I’ve suddenly taken a little ill today, and will have to cancel today’s show. For those of you who don’t know, I’ve been recently diagnosed with Type II diabetes and am working through a medication regimen to address high blood sugars. While things get adjusted, it plays some tricks on the body — and to be honest, I’m not sure this is a medication issue or just plain old stomach flu, so we’ll see.
Instead, I’ll give you the replay of our show from July 1st, which featured Mark Tapscott and Rep. Thaddeus McCotter calling in live — from Pakistan.
Opening animation from TG Studios.

Get well, Ed!
By the way, this is being counted as a ”sick day”. No soup for you!
Weebork on July 9, 2008 at 1:33 PM
Ed :( you will get it worked out. I suggest walking, it helps with the influxes of diabetes.
upinak on July 9, 2008 at 1:35 PM
Sorry to hear you are feeling ill Ed. Take care of yourself and cut out the carbs! They will wreck havoc with your blood sugar levels.

Does this mean no more posts for the day? What will I do? I need my HA!
See-Dubya? Patterico? Where are you? Maybe someone needs to get AP out of his Borg-like regeneration chamber.

Get well Ed hope to see you tomorrow
William Amos on July 9, 2008 at 1:42 PM
Sorry to hear about your illness Ed. I’ll be pulling for you to feel better as soon as possible. If it is stomach flu, try the chicken noodle soup from Noodles and Company. Helped me through my stomach bug a couple of months ago.

What if Allah is female? Would that shock you? Or would you be more inclined for 5 of 9 like image.
upinak on July 9, 2008 at 1:48 PM
Thanks, everyone! I will be posting today; I just need to lay down and take it easy, and I can’t do that and prep and stage a one-hour show. Blogging’s pretty low-key. ;-)
Ed Morrissey on July 9, 2008 at 1:48 PM
That’d make his odd attraction to KP and the sexpert that much more interesting!
lorien1973 on July 9, 2008 at 1:50 PM
Attraction to KP and the sexpert is odd?
Oh dear.
MadisonConservative on July 9, 2008 at 1:52 PM
Hey Ed,
Sorry to hear about the diabetes diagnosis. The spousal unit has that, and it’s a bee-atch to deal with sometimes.
Those diabetes meds can indeed induce stomach problems, so read up carefully on those side-effects. Glucophage in particular has that reputation, as I’ve seen first-hand.
Good health and long life to you. It’s like any other life-long condition; you learn to live with it and manage it. (Which makes it all sound very tidy and very easy, and I know that’s not the case!)
NeighborhoodCatLady on July 9, 2008 at 1:54 PM
Well Allah is the perfect Beta ;P j/k

AP’s on vacation and Ed’s sick? How can this happen?! Is this even legal?!
amerpundit on July 9, 2008 at 1:57 PM
Yeah, baby.
Dr.Cwac.Cwac on July 9, 2008 at 1:58 PM
Yea, Ed, we wouldn’t want to see you suddenly get this deer-in-the-headlights look and have to dash off camera.
The chatroom might give into it’s…uh…worst instincts.
eeyore on July 9, 2008 at 1:58 PM
Get well, Ed.
Actually, Ed needs the soup (chicken noodle, that is).

Dr.Cwac.Cwac on July 9, 2008 at 2:05 PM
Ed,
The cure for both the flu and diabetes is to stay onry!
Get well.
Oh, BTW, if Franken ends up with the seat move on down to Texas. Plenty of red space left down here.

Geez! Trying to make Ed laugh!
upinak on July 9, 2008 at 2:17 PM
The stomach flu part is divine retribution for your failure to support Bob Barr and I in our presidential bid. :-)
Get well soon, Ed.
Jazz Shaw on July 9, 2008 at 2:18 PM
Jazz,
Yes. My intestines are feeling very … libertarian right now.
And yes, I canceled the show to avoid that deer-in-the-headlights moment, also known as the Quayle Debate Syndrome.
Ed Morrissey on July 9, 2008 at 2:21 PM
Hey Ed,
Maybe this will help you out.

Ed,
You should get some Taco Bell and get everything moving on its way!
Can we consider this an open thread?

Depends!

See me @ 2:27 PM.

Also, I hope it is just a coincidence that Allah is off at the same time the iPhone is coming out. I seriously hope he isn’t camping outside of his local Apple store!

Oh Crap! Saw that one around the bend.
We are so mean. I hope Ed got a chuckle out of it.
upinak on July 9, 2008 at 2:58 PM
Take it easy Ed. We will get over it :)
Dawnsblood on July 9, 2008 at 3:06 PM
Ed, feel better today and in the long term–do whatever the doc tells you to do. We need you around for a long time to come.
And I’m sure your famiy probably does too, sure. Ahem.
Who’s gonna backup today? Any volunteers?
Bob's Kid on July 9, 2008 at 3:12 PM
Hope you feel better, Ed. My dad’s been diabetic for over 20 years, so our family knows what a pain in the rear type 2 can be. Good luck with your regulation.
pullingmyhairout on July 9, 2008 at 4:10 PM
Sorry to hear, Ed. My dad also was diagnoses with the same a few years ago. Like you said, it’s all about getting on the right meds…he takes 5 or 6 different pills. You’ll have a full medicine cabinet, but you’ll be much better.
JetBoy on July 9, 2008 at 4:19 PM
Man. I have no idea what to do with myself from noon to 1:00. Hope you’ll be feeling better soon Cap’n!
Sarjex on July 9, 2008 at 5:35 PM
You know AP; he’s definitely camped out.
Say, that website of yours seems to be on the suspended list.
steveegg on July 9, 2008 at 8:41 PM
Sorry to here about the diagnosis. No more good food for you I guess. But take care of yourself and you’ll be fine.
On a personal note, you may or may not have noticed my absence. I have been diagnosed with an illness as well. It’s called Backtoworkitus. It’s a horrible disease with the most severe side effect being missing your show everyday. It will probably take twenty or more years to recover. But I will catch some of your shows on the rebound.
Again, good luck Ed and stay healthy.
NotCoach on July 9, 2008 at 10:18 PM
Ed, a really good low carb balanced diet is The Zone. It was a best seller about 10 years back. The initial first book is called Enter the Zone by Dr. Barry Sears.
The diet is based on equal amounts of fat, carbs and protein. I did it when I was first diagnosed with lymphoma just to clean out my system and feel better. But ii is highly recommended for diabetics.
Hope you feel better! :)
AprilOrit on July 10, 2008 at 12:20 AM
For most of us the effects of Metformin wear off. Unfortunately it may take a few weeks.
Watch the carbs, test your blood often – it’s especially important now, to see what sets off your blood sugar. Some of us can eat fruits and exotic veggies that others can’t. Exercise as much as you can, testing will show you how immediately exercise helps. A doctor who takes diabetes very seriously and stays up on it is critical. If you have access to an endocrinologist, they’re usually the way to go.
http://www.diabetic-talk.org/ is a really good site for information
You’re far from alone so don’t get too down about it.
