Obama gets attacked on race by … Jesse Jackson?

Barack Obama has another data point for his contention that he will get attacked on the basis of race, but as with Ralph Nader, his antagonist comes from the Left. An open mike has Jesse Jackson on the defensive, apologizing for spontaneous comments deriding Barack Obama and the tone he takes when talking to black voters, especially in churches. Jackson apparently offered such an obscene comment that no one wants to even paraphrase it for the record:
BLITZER: Reverend Jackson, why did you say these things? Because it’s so crude, we can’t even repeat it on the air right now, what you said on this open mike. What was going through your mind?
JACKSON: Well, when I was asked about it, there was already some kind of (INAUDIBLE) reaction. The appeal in black America is record levels of unemployment, home foreclosure crisis, records of murders, and all kind of reprehensible actions for black America. A million blacks are in jail even as we talk today and 900,000 young black men. So we have some real serious issues, and not just moral issues –
BLITZER: Well then let me interrupt, Reverend Jackson.
JACKSON: — Structural inequality.
BLITZER: Reverend Jackson, are you suggesting that Senator Obama isn’t concerned about these issues? Is that what you are saying?
JACKSON: Not — by any means (ph). He has dealt with it more effectively than anyone else has. Each time he gives one of these message at a black church, it appears to be targeted and the media takes it and runs with it as a solution to a structural crisis — you know — his moral behavior.
Jackson may have done Obama a bit of a favor. Mainstream America has long distrusted Jackson, and anything that puts distance between him and Obama can only help support Obama’s status as a member of the new generation of black politicians. He didn’t do himself any favors by attacking Obama; it will underscore his identification as a mostly discredited has-been.
Let’s not forget that Jackson attacked Obama before on race — in terms very similar to that of Nader. Last September, Jackson made headlines for accusing Obama of “acting like he’s white”. That came in response to Obama’s seeming disinterest in Jackson’s race-baiting cause du jour, the Jena 6. Apparently, Jesse still has that same criticism.
So what exactly did Jesse say this time? Rumor has it that he made a castration reference, which would have caused a wildfire if it came from anyone else. Tune in to Hannity & Colmes tonight, where they will play the tape — with the appropriate redactions, of course. Maybe by that time, the media will have thoroughly researched their Roget’s Thesauruses for appropriate euphimisms. (via Michelle)

Al Sharpton commenting on Jesse Jackson is simply absurd. Why does the media give him the time of day?

Do you really think that AprilOrit is capable of stating facts?
I mean Drudge leaves only two letters out of the statement and every other comment here (and Ed’s castration comment in story subtext text) has been providing the word puzzle answer… …and what was her first question?
AprilOrit is so clueless, I keep wondering if she lied on her age when signing up for comment registration here.
Mcguyver on July 9, 2008 at 9:09 PM
This is pathetic. Al Sharpton waffled on Jesse Jackson’s comments vis-a-vis Imus’s. Jackson’s were done out of (apparent) anger, Imus’s out of jest.

There’s an age requirement?
jerrytbg on July 9, 2008 at 9:12 PM
I’m sorry, but ya don’t say you want to castrate a guy because you like him….
This tells us all we need to know about Obama’s support from the Black community… its racist at its base.

Oh boy “reverend” al sharpton is on H & C. He has brought up Don Imus in the first few minutes somehow.

becki51758 on July 9, 2008 at 9:27 PM
I think Jackson was revealing feelings similar to Hillary’s (but she is too self-controlled to ever slip and say them): “I’ve been working my way up the ladder all these years, and along comes some inexperienced whippersnapper who cuts in front of me, and the little know-it-all starts preaching at us. And I have to suck it up and support him for “the good of the party.”
Wethal on July 9, 2008 at 9:28 PM
Mccain should be shot if he lose the election. As I see it there is no way in hell Obama can win.
jdun on July 9, 2008 at 9:29 PM
Yeah, I just bet he’s sorry. “I’d like to cut his n*ts off.” “Private conversation” or not, makes no difference, hypocrite — that phrase would not even pop into some of our minds about someone at whom we were angry, not to mention saying it out loud.
Did he think God wasn’t listening just because he didn’t see a microphone around? Can’t fathom why The Reverend Jesse Jackson ™ gets to hide behind faith every time.

Isn’t that communicating a threat, and being it’s threatening a African American with castration, then doesn’t that also qualify it as a “hate crime”.
We need to organize a march.

Of course, it’s a hate crime! Barack is half white. OK. It’s half of a hate crime.

So Jesse Jackson owns Rainbow/PUSH and gets its funding from private donations. Based in Chicago. Seems to be allied with the Clinton mob.
ACORN is also private, also based in Chicago. Seems to be a nurturing environment for Obama during his quest for fortune and glory. Who owns ACORN?
Obama is front’n for. . . .wait, who is Obama front’n for? Himself? He put that organization together by himself?
Who is it that is trying to drive the Clinton mob out of the democrat party?
Man, this is a job for the FISA courts and the NSA. No wonder the leftist activists are so upset about surveillance.

AprilOrit on July 9, 2008 at 10:52 PM
from my comment @ MM:
What Jesse Jackson is mad about is that B. Hussein is leaving blacks OUT, looking down on them, when B Hussein came out and supported the “Faith Based” initiative.
.
Black Liberation Theology is what this is about. The quiet but ubiquitous BLT still ‘mad at whitey’ stuff that can only be said in whisper and only understood by blacks.
.
Jesse specifically said “FAITH BASED” is what he’s mad at, enough to de-man obama.
.
Look at the vid again, think about what would make Jackson mad enough to say and do this in regards to Faith Based.
It has nothing to do with the father/son crap or black on black crime they’re trying to hide it behind tonight.
shooter on July 9, 2008 at 10:52 PM
Maybe this has already been up. But I find it most interesting when sitting there with the Fox host, Jackson seems most comfortable confiding in a fellow black. The Fox host looks most uncomfortable to me. But Jackson’s words referring to Barack, “talking down to blacks” are uttered as the greatest unpardonable sin that can be made by a black. I guess it is pretty bad if it costs you your nuts. I think the issue is, talking down to blacks is something Jackson wants reserved for white people & corporations so he can shake them down. He’s fried because he can’t do that to a fellow black.
wepeople on July 9, 2008 at 10:54 PM
Just google, and discoverthenetworks.org.
Did find two interesting NYTimes articles about Jesse Jacksons reaction to Bill Clinton’s Sister Souljah moment. It was reported by the NYT that Jackson took some offense from Clinton’s remarks, yet it seems that Jackson is a Clinton ally.
I find it fascinating who is doing what to whom, and why.
(Did I get my english correct?)
rockhauler on July 9, 2008 at 10:58 PM
I don’t think it’s that cmplex becuase I think Jesse Jackson is more apt to put his own personal desires ahead of the whole BLT concept.
I think for him it’s more along the lines of a media whore jonzin’ for some attention and feeling left out at not being the black messiah.
AprilOrit on July 9, 2008 at 10:59 PM

Jesse Jackson in theory is no different than any other pundit, cable news or talk radio entertainer, regardless of which side they are on. Their whole deal in life and their livlihood revolves around how much we the public are willing to listen to their opinions and whether we really still care what they think or if we buy their books.
They’re no different than any other entertainer or sports figure. As long as we buy the tickets they stay on top. We stop buying their work and stop listening, they’re done.
I’m sure he feels like another black man has stepped in and taken the torch out of his hand and his ticket sales are no longer viable.
When you break it down to the LCD it’s all about fame, nothing more. He’s like Madonna, he wants to be in the news. They’re all like Madonna, they want to be loved, listened to, read, and they really need their opinions to matter.

Ahem… sorry to be inappropriate but “memory hole” refers to a “hole” into which an item disappears from memory, as in when an item one might expect to be reported by the media simply disappears. (help me out, other commenters, if I’m being unclear about this term or you have a better definition).
As to Obama, I am not supporting him. I don’t really want to support McCain either, but I guess he’s the lesser of two evils at this point. I do remember an earlier thread where you indicated that you were supporting Obama, which distressed your grandmother (apparently she has a photo of McCain in her dining room, if my memory serves me correctly). It’s… interesting… that my memory of who you are supporting is better than yours.
Or maybe you’ve changed your mind since that discussion?

Dr Cwak Cwak - Thank you for that video “The Question is Moot”. The threads on this site are what keeps me coming back day after day. I don’t comment much, but do enjoy other’s comments. The comments at the begining of this thread had me in stiches. The video showed that the Democrat “playbook” is the same $hit it was 24 years ago. Why the Rev. is still popular with African-Americans, after “preaching” the same lines for over 20 years and nothing ever “Changes”, baffles the mind. Sound like someone Barack has been listening to for 20 years, same time, same channel!! Liberals, same time, same channel.

He’s still running? Cranky old bastard seems to be AWOL except the events where he shows up to bash the GOP base about Kyoto or immigration reform. Candidates need their base constituency behind them and I’d venture to say that it is a complete toss-up. Nobody in America likes either choice for various reasons.
If there was any time for the activist SCOTUS to get involved and declare a “do over” due to unconstitutional aspects of the process, this is it!
