A Shot Across the 60s’ Bow...

I snatched this fascinating McCain TV ad from HotAir. Watch it, and pay attention to the subtle shots at the 60s mentality: the twist on “love” and the quiet denunciation of self-centeredness. Also notice “he doesn’t tell us wha...

Granted I'm not the best focus group, but there can never be enough hippie bashing. I'm still waiting for the crimes against humanity trials for all those who aided and abetted communists around the world to commit democide wherever they were in power.

But then I prefer my steak to Moo and think that the DoD has 1/3 the appropriate budget. Ideally you'd be able to walk across the Pacific on the decks of USN CVNs.

Time to go for the jugular and stay there - Obama is going to kill us all and then use his Bolivarian Circles to ensure there's never another election.

The ad went on too long, but the opening message resonated with my independent leaning 41 year old sensibilities and the tag line was perfect. The RNC Obama ad was a direct hit as well, so it looks like the elephants are finally bringing their A game. Hope it works.

I saw the ad on Philadelphia TV last night, during the 11:00 news. It looked great on my 46" HDTV! I do cringe at the "economy in shambles" line though. I wish they would soften it to "a struggling economy." The economy in Pennsylvania is actually very good right now, especially in the Philadelphia region.

The ad is not directed to the "center." It's directed to all those people who have woken up after the 70s, but can't figure out what to do next, the people who never had a chance to read serious analyses about Viet Nam, who couldn't hear the voices that connected the fairy tale 60s with the blighted 70s because those voices where shouted down from the heights of Academia, the people who want to love America but were told "patriotism is a sin, you should make love with strangers instead."

As a 40 year old, it means a lot. While my dad was making a career in the military, the hippies were doping, drinking and playing kissy face with the Soviets, even as 3/4 of them were too stupid to realize it. I can tell you that there are plenty of young men who see the aging hippy dirtbags for what they are. This ad is a great ad. WAY better than I thought any ad could make me feel about McCain, and I know that it will be a good one if it runs nationally. I will probably never see it, seems the GOP doesn't waste much time advertising in the GOP stronghold of the Northern Rockies.

Like it or not, conservatives, this guy is going to be the President. I'm ok with that.

Now, we need to get a conservative running for Senate against Obambi in Illinois. Let's send this douchebag back to the Illinois general assembly, where he is at his intellectual and moral depth.

Say, as he is half white how come I don't hear the negros calling him an Oreo?

As a bio ad, comparing his experience (military service, POW, maverick) to Obama's (yay my grandma loved me!) without actually mentioning the messiah is pretty effective.

Poking fun at the 'hope' mantra = also thumbs up. Now, to explain to the pleebs how the 'change' Obama's talking about refers only to what will be left in your wallets...

As a member of "Generation Y" whose closest experience with the Summer of Love/Vietnam era was watching 'Forest Gump'...

I liked it. Except for the 'economy in shambles' bit. That was stupid... he should have used something like 'struggling economy'.

People who think the economy is 'in shambles' right now have no sense of history.

You know.............. I think an add with John McCain drilling for oil and building the border fence would probably do a little better.

I doubt that McCain’s campaign intended it, but this is also a very, very subtle response to Obama’s “Kansas values” ad. Obama stayed with his Kansas-born grandparents in Hawaii for high school because his flower-child mother wanted to flit around the globe marrying unsuitable-for-fatherhood men.

That’s not necessarily criticism of Obama (you can’t pick your relatives), but of the narcissistic lefty values he espouses (an inconvenient, unwanted child is “punishment.”)

Because he cheated on her with, and dumped her for a hot, very rich woman. Unless you think she liked her for her personality in which case I have some oceanfront property in Nevada I’d like to sell you.

You know he and his first wife are still on good terms so why does this bother YOU?

I find it incredible that people here went completely nuts over Clinton cheating on his wife but are willing to give McCain a free pass just because he’s “their guy”.

I must have missed it - when did John McCain run for office with his first wife by his side while openly screwing every woman in sight? When did he and his wife go on 60 Minutes and pretend to have a happy marriage? When did McCain go on national television deying that he had had sex with an employee half his age?

The other big difference between McCain and Clinton is that McCain and his first wife got a divorce. That's an honest admission that you don't want to be married anymore. His wife freely gave him the divorce too. Bill and Hillary will never get a divorce even though nobody in America thinks they have ever had a real marriage at all. That's the kind of elemental lie that America should never tolerate.

John McCain has never lied about the fact that he met and fell for Cindy before he was divorced. He has also never campaigned as a "family values" kind of guy, which would make him a hypocrite. As far as anyone knows, he has been faithful to Cindy and she to him.

Ronald Reagan also had a failed first marriage and Nancy was probably pregnant when they were married. I guess by your standards no conservative should ever have supported Reagan and he never should have been president.
