I read Fields Of Fire when it came out 30-some years ago, and liked it.
My problem with Webb is not what he wrote, or his military service, which I will never criticize. My problem is what he and the socialist democrats stand for now. I have to shake my head at any combat veteran (except Kerrry) who becomes a socialist democrat.
Webb will never get a vote from me. Period.

This is a badly flawed person with lotsa Baggage and several Skeletons in his roomy closet. It’s a disgrace to the ‘better half’ of the people of Virginia that this POS got elected to the Senate by a few thousand votes–and hose margin of victory probably came from fraudulent / dead voters in a state where the Dems made a High Art of voter fraud

As a Virginian, I agree. But George Allen had his “macaca” moment and the media saw to it that it would be the albatross around his neck. Had that not have happened, we’d be looking at candidate Allen rather than candidate McCain. Webb won because Allen was branded a racist because somebody said he used the “N” word 35 years ago in college, although never substantiated. Whether he did or whether he didnt, 35 years is a long time to hold a grudge.

Isn’t it arrogant to decline a honor before it is bestowed on you? Is it only me or do others find Webb to be a thick headed dolt?

I always had the impression that Webb is an arrogant bully, sort of like Howard Dean. They are the two that push the smaller kids around on the playground and steal their lunch. I didnt think much of Webb when he worked for Reagan and I think even less of him now.

Webb said he told Obama last week not to select him as he wants to remain in the Senate for longer than a third of a single term:

I dont know – two years in the Senate worked for Obama. It gave him enough experience to be President.

I also agree that he and McCain have been friends for so long he could not actively campaign against him.

If you have not read “Lost Soldiers” “Fields of Fire” or “The Emperors General” try to…they are great great books.

If there were more Dems like Webb, the party would not be hostage to freaks at Moveon and Daily Kos…..

The Dems would be well served to get some more Conservative Democrats like Webb back into the party.

He has pretty much done nothing for Virginia that has affected daily life here. I take that back. He’s followed the Democrat party line and helped increase gasoline prices substantially.

It would be nice to have a president who can speak the english language again however.

If Obama were smart [too easy for a joke; it would be like fish in a barrel], he’d consider Jane Harman.

I’d pay to be a fly on the wall with the inevitable cat fight with Pelosi.

Concerning Sibelius: Isn’t she the governor who was crying the blues about not having enough National Guard support when a tornado devastated a small town (Greensburg?) in her state because the personnel were all in Iraq? Her woebegone sound bites were a cheap shot for political points.

The Dems do not have many admirable possible candidates, do they? Pickings are slim, especially since they live and die by identity politics.

Actually, good on the Senator. I think Obama’s only hopes are Hillary or somebody from the cast of “The West Wing”. Once Senator “All American” McCain cuts through the sleaze, it’ll be game over!

Webb’s no fool. The Good Ship Obama is sinking fast, and he wanted no part of the Wesley Clark Trash Talk Express.

Webb is a toolbag. I rember this idiot wearing his sons combat boots during his campaign and then he has the stones to tell McCain to tone down his talking about his service. McCain has a son in the fight too, but you never hear about it.
