General David Petraeus, his name is now apart of American history. May God Bless him and all our fighting men and women.

I’m not even going to comment on this.

It takes a willing suspensioin of disbelief to take liberals seriously. Gen. P. I’d trust with the keys to my house.
Akzed on July 6, 2008 at 9:38 PM
Unless, of course, he ran as a Republican–at which point it would be repeatedly declared by a variety of shark-eyed mouthpieces that his experiences as a general are in no way qualifications for executive office.

Just wanted to say, this man is from my small town in upstate New York. I couldn’t be prouder.

What I find amazing is that most of us look at Petraeus like the Dems look at Obama. He sends a chill down some of our legs. Amazing the difference in the two and how we gravitate to the one that is accomplishing great things, with few words, compared to the one whom has accomplished nothing, but speaks often.
WoosterOh on July 6, 2008 at 9:51 PM
These are the demoralized troops that Obama wants to surrender immediately, right? Just trying to keep things straight.
Seriously, Patraeus is the real deal in the way faux “hero-generals” like Clark and Powell are not. Why, because he is standing tall in the long run.

Obama will have Petreaus coordinate the retreat from Iraq and then throw him under the bus. If anything goes wrong after the retreat, Obama will say Petreaus did not do it right.
Remember how Clinton dealt with Colin Powell whose advice he ignored.

I have a feeling the Left is going to go nuts this Fall because there will be ads reminding voters about what the Dems did to an honorable man, and the public wont like it much and they will rally to Petraeus’ side.
WoosterOh on July 6, 2008 at 10:32 PM
Unlikely. Military men who end up being democrats are the types like Wesley clark and Alexis Fecteau. Not Petraeus.
If by chance he is a democrat, I’d sleep safe at night knowing that he was the commander in chief, and that his decisions in just about every other aspect of the job wouldn’t be as idiotic as someone like Clark.

On Fox News sunday this morning, Juan Williams was repeating the same ‘this Iraq invasion was a disaster that never should have happened’ line like he and other liberal/democrats always do. Thank God that in addition to George W Bush’s comments, history will also record these statements pre-2003 as well. ( as well as this video, hopefully. )
And just as when US troops stayed in Western Europe, and helped to repulse any invasion from the soviets, and US troops stayed in South Korea, helping to counter any invasion from the north, as well as other stabilizing efforts in places like Japan … it could take 50 years for Bush’s vision for peace in the middle east from bearing fruit. And this can only happen from removing saddam, and being a stabalizing force by leaving US troops in the region. Something that can and will be undone if a democrat controlled US removes all troops from Iraq.

Last year, when Hillary called him a liar, and moveon.org called him Betrayus, before even hearing his testimony, I vowed right then to do whatever I could legally do to insure no Democrat would become Commander-in-Chief.
I rearranged my family’s finances to free up funds for this.
It’s not just that I thought Petraeus was on the right track at the time. It’s not really about Petraeus. It was that Hillary and moveon were so preemptively disrespectful solely for political grandstanding. Other Dems have done the same thing, and it’s disgusting how they treat someone who would be under their command if they were elected.
Obama hasn’t been so outwardly rude that I’ve seen, but he’s supported by moveon and all the other Dem orgs, and he’s the inheritor of Hillary’s legacy.
If a Dem gets to be CiC, it won’t be because of me. I’ll know I did everything I could to prevent this.

Regardless of how America eventually writes its history for Iraq, George Bush and David Petraeus will be well recorded in the history of Iraq .. probably as the founding fathers of democracy in the land between the two rivers.

byteshredder on July 6, 2008 at 11:38 PM
General Petraeus is to be commended for his brilliant leadership. However, I hope the recent successes do not push from people’s minds the scope of the larger task at hand.
The ideology and mindset behind Al Quaeda and the philosophy of jihad is alive and well in the world, though somewhat diminished by our troops’ valiant efforts. This is not going to go away or get easier for a long time; we need to give praise and thanks for our victories, and gird ourselves for more to come. As long as jihad is taught and praised and lauded and portrayed as a sure path to paradise by a poisonous belief system, this can never end. This is just a small skirmish in an existential clash between incompatible ways of life.
Our successes are to be hailed heartily!
But the work ahead cannot be forgotten, and we ignore it at our peril.
hillbillyjim on July 6, 2008 at 11:39 PM
Regardless of his political affiliation, Petraeus has done an excellent job as commander. He’s a soldier’s soldier, along with all those whom volunteer to be a soldier.
It’s not only Petraeus that deserves our admiration and respect, but every man and woman that serves this country either in the battle or behind the desk. I might add that Gates has done a great job by getting rid of some dead wood up the chain of command.

Though I understand where you are coming from, things have shifted. When AQI was in the news, killing Americans, that drove recruiting. Now, they see defeat. Who wants to be part of defeat? The ones that are doing it now, have no where else to turn, they are in it to the death.
I think the radicals are calmer. The weekly demonstration dont happen anymore. Think about the Islamic movie Wilder did, nothing happened. There is a shift, and it is not a small shift, it is a major shift.

Are you saying we are winning the war in media? If so, then only caution I would have is that Al Qaeda’s ability to hide like a cancer that has been beaten into remission only to return again more virulent. Like all cancers, it will take years of observation and treatment to completely irradiate this disease of Islamic Fascism.

I agree that the tide has turned on the face of it. But don’t forget that there is still a committed core of Al Quaeda and others who will stop at nothing to inflict terror and pain on “the Great Satan”.
A lot of these haters of the West have been indoctrinated from birth, and the next generation is on the way.
I don’t want to denigrate our successes in any way, but when I read some of the celebratory comments, I am reminded that we must not let our guard down and remember that this is a tenacious adversary and one that is motivated by a perverted belief system that glorifies suicide and the slaughter of innocents.
This fanatic jihadi movement will ultimately have to be confronted and defeated in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Algeria, Somalia and elsewhere. It is imperative that they gain no traction in any of these places, Pakistan most of all.
It is a very dangerous world, and we need to be prepared for a long struggle.
hillbillyjim on July 7, 2008 at 12:43 AM
If Democrats hand any reasoning ability, they would have actually researched the true and factual conditions in Iraq and then wooed General Petraeus. Instead, the left slandered him before he gave his report.
Personally, I think the Democrats new of the conditions in Iraq, but felt it was necessary to carry on the facade of loosing the war to save face with the American Public or the inability to give President Bush any credit what so ever.
Furthermore, if a group of politicians treated me in like manner, even if I was a democrat, I would change affiliation.
PrettyD_Vicious on July 7, 2008 at 1:16 AM
Both at home and abroad.
With democrats like Reid, Pelosi, Murtha and Durbin dismissing the military, denigrating the military, dismissing and calling the military lairs, murders and rapist, Al Qaeda may be the least of our short term problems, but our near time problems.

Times Online, James Hider in Bagdad mentioning O’Reilly’s name,
whether it was really O’Reilly who drew large crowds or other radio personalities might be a point to consider–
is O’Reilly the only name James Hider wanted to name?
did O’Reilly really show up in Iraq and draw matching crowds?–if he went, more power to the guy, regardless of the size of crowd he drew or how feeble his conservative twist is at home.
have other hosts like Hannity or Savage visited the troops in Iraq? They do a lot of good publicity and fund raising stateside for our troops, which is wonderful.
ps: that Jolie extends effort for our troops is worth appreciating. She is no saint, but a mere mortal who cares enough about what she cares about to DO what she can. Those who would defame her efforts to do good work lack the balls to go themselves to serve our troops in Iraq personally.
Thank God for all good things, large and small.

Amen mav… Give credit where credit is due. I remember the days when Bob Hope would put together some of the greatest acts of the day, and fly them around the world to entertain our troops while showing his great love and admiration for our warriors. Big contrast between those days and these days; which is why Hollywood is now seen by millions of Americans as elitist ugly ungrateful spoiled brat Liberal weenies, led by the likes of Streisand and Spielberg. To hell with this generation of movie critters. If Jolie can shed some light on her fellow actors, good for her!
General P deserves a hero’s welcome as a great American leader in an era of Murtha & Clark. If anybody doubted the brainlessness of the American left, one only needs to remember the General “betray us” ad that was so popular with the lefties that post here. Foreign news outlets are now recognizing General P for his greatness, while American news outlets continue to make believe General P doesn’t exist.
Very telling indeed!
