Fred is pro-choice. He espouses federalism and that Roe v. Wade, is bad law — which it is. He thinks that it is a state question — which it is. But once the question goes back to the states and the issue is resolved on the state level — if Fred had his druthers, he is against criminalizing abortion. He would not make it a crime to have an abortion or even to be a doctor that performs an abortion. He said this on Meet The Press. He is a pro-choice federalist — similar to Rudy.

Also, Fred helped Libyan Islamist terrorists who killed 270 innocents avoid justice in Western courts for 11 years.

And that is a NO-NO in public speaking……….

That being said………McCain was not my first, second or third choice……….

One can always see clearly when an argument has been won or lost. The loser always resorts to name calling.

MMuse, the “disorder” is in the accelerated, downward spiral of our society. Certainly we can’t be in denial about that, can we? My point is that brilliant people, like Fred, who are in a position to do something, are not. They’re just going with the flow. No sense of urgency. No fight left. Taking the path of least resistance by poking fun at the dem’s all the time. Rather than looking within our own party for flaws and missteps and how we can be better. And, to a certain degree, we’re all guilty of that. There’s plenty of blame to go around. And I’m not laying all the blame at FDT’s feet, either. How about Duncan Hunter? Tom Tancredo? The Big Three. Great men all but they need to untether themselves from the GOP Hierarchy/RNC. Which doesn’t mean they can’t continue to call themselves Republicans. We need leaders to stop playing nice with these globalist scoundrels that have hijacked “our” GOP. The WSJ/US Chamber crowd. And wrest control back for the sake of the voting base. Our party bosses learned nothing from 11/7/06.

Another road sign that really disturbs me. Those true conservatives that are in influential positions? They don’t take kindly to constructive criticism. Even when its warranted. And many believe they are so infallible that they never need it. This “mentality”, mm, is nothing more than pure arrogance under a different brand name. And that’s negative/destructive. Unfortunately there are not enough of the respected conservative commentators who are willing to point fingers at certain specific individuals within the GOP Hierarchy that have trashed “our” party and ruined its chances for 2008. No thanks to our media. The Iraq War has never seemed more winnable and what do we see from the press? A near-complete embargo on Iraq War coverage. It’s all about the media because they get to frame the discussion.

You can’t export democracy especially when the rest of the world snickers after hearing your country’s name.

I recognize that Fred! is still as credible as ever.

Fred’s POTUS campaign was to re-ignite the voter awareness of our Constitutional heritage, our founding principles. His sincere efforts were productive, whether recognized or not by willful partisans within the GOP. He alone formulated the winning conservative platform ’08 for our GOP to rally towards victory. That the RNC and McCain have yet to prove integrity with conservative alliance is not Fred’s fault. Fred! never ran as the messiah.

Fred! appreciates opportunities to continue the conservative battle for liberty. So far as what Fred! is willing to do for our country, he has done it all. He is honorable to persist in speech and debate for the integrity of our Constitution whether on nationally syndicated television (denied access during his run and post resignation) or in small town America (it still exists) meeting plain folk or for nationally organized special interest groups (Right to Life).

The GOP ticket needs to counter balance with some brilliant youth, Romney or Palin or the likes. But the Cabinet will need Fred! the American Statesman to protect our Constitution and our national and civil strengths during the coming feuds. McCain would do well to convince Fred! to accept the position of Fred’s own choice within the Cabinet. Fred is not a power monger, but is level headed and humble enough to know his strengths as well as his weaknesses in terms of what he has to offer and how he can best do his duty to our nation.

The mentality that would blame Fred! for America’s woes is the same illness that begets any disorderly syndrome.

As someone who volunteered in South Carolina, I can tell you primary day was an utter fiasco. We spent the day calling what were supposed to be Thompson supporters, identified over the past two weeks. Most of the ones we called were not Fredheads. Something went terribly wrong with the data.

Then, watching Galen on FOX & other shows a day or two BEFORE Fred dropped out, saying he might be a better VP candidate, and referring to him as “Thompson”…not Fred, or Sen. Thompson, just “Thompson” seemed very odd to me.

Rich Galen sucked, and I believe played a role in the campaign’s disarray.

He really ran a dynamite campaign didn’t he? I think he should be on the short list for V.P.

True, but they both flip-flop. With the Iraq War becoming less and less of an issue, I can easily see immigration becoming more and more relevant. And with McCain still pimping Comprehensive Immigration Reform it’s quite reasonable to think that the American people will lose faith.

McCain needs to dump Juan Hernandez and end the panderfest to even stand a chance of winning in November.

I still blame the media for Fred!’s political demise. It wasn’t Rich Galen promoting the “Lack of fire in the belly” meme. It was the pundits at Fox, CNN, MSNBC, NPR, ABC, CBS and so forth. They didn’t give Fred! a chance from the very start. Almost his entire support came from talk radio and the internet.

We let this ridiculously stupid primary season dictate who would run on the GOP platform and the result is a RINO like McCain. Shocka! Maybe if the primaries worked a bit more logically….say, letting the largest states vote first!!!! Maybe then a real conservative could emerge.

Fred! is still just as credible as ever. He’s showing a lot of character by supporting his friend, McCain, despite what I’m sure are huge differences in terms of policy. I couldn’t do that. I’m far too petty.

Blame the media and the GOP primary schedule. But don’t blame Fred! He brought the message conservatives wanted to hear and did it in a way that made him look like a true patriot. Great men don’t yearn for high office — great men offer their service to their nation.

And Fred!, IMHO, is a great man.

I disagree, Dan. I think that McAmnesty will lose because he simply isn’t a conservative and most of this country still holds traditional, conservative opinions. I, for one, think that GWB has gotten a bad rap. He, like all presidents, have made mistakes. But I certainly feel like his two terms have been positive for the country.

Congressional GOP members are the ones who ought to be ashamed of themselves. They had the opportunity to do so much good and instead just proved themselves to be as feckless as Democrats. Shame on them.

Amen! The biggest flip-flop of all time is happening right here on H/A. Most conservatives cannot even say McShame’s name with vomiting a bit in their mouths. But any criticism of him here is met with accustations of being an Obama groupie, an Atheist or both. McShame will certainly lose in November because of what GWB & the Republican Congress did to the party. Given the incompetence and outright hubris of the GOP today, this loss is long overdue…sad to say. Consider it an enema.

At any rate, I’m not trying to convince people to not vote for McCain. You’ve got it backwards, pal. You’re trying to convince people that if they don’t vote for McCain the world will end. I have pointed out, numerous times, my reasons for not voting for McCain, and his positions that are not conservative. You treat those as attacks, or attempts to get people not to vote for him. That’s because you’re as devoted to McCain in pure partisan faith as many are drawn to Obama. You’re no different. You’re getting pissed about me pointing out McCain’s flaws in the same way Obama supporters get pissed when you bring up Wright, Ayers, and Rezko. Get over it, you little crybaby. If you can’t handle the facts about your candidate without throwing a fit, that’s not my problem. Grow up, and stop assuming that because old men are on the ticket, that they will lose.
