MSNBC host: Was the Colombia hostage rescue a sham designed to benefit McCain?

Like so many conspiracy theorists these days, he doesn’t have the balls to level the accusation squarely, preferring instead to “just ask questions.” It falls to Buchanan to flesh out the theory before rejecting it. Wade through some nutroots blogs and you’ll find breathless reportage noting that McCain did, apparently, know in advance — around 12 hours in advance, per the NYT, after he got to Colombia. Uribe told him on Tuesday night that they were going to try a rescue on Wednesday. The Times itself states matter of factly, “the timing of the rescue was a coincidence and Mr. McCain’s trip to Colombia had nothing to do with it,” and since he didn’t meet with the rescued hostages he gained nothing politically of any value — aside, of course, from a galaxy of leftists screeching about the timing. Oh well. Behold, per Blake Dvorak, one of the first documented cases of McCain Derangement Syndrome.

No, he doesn’t.
But it’s all so very convenient.

It doesn’t matter. McCain got no press from this anyway. Wasted trip in a wasted campaign.
Somebody help him, please.

Everything is a conspiracy.
I believe the Right Wing element in the United States created Columbia just in case they needed an Ace in the hole some day. Now we can dismantle them and set up Disney World South.
Viva la Mickey!!
What a disgusting way for them to handle this tremendous operation. What a disservice to the Columbian military heroes who pulled this off.
Rogue Traveler on July 3, 2008 at 2:03 PM
This is so stupid but expected. The lefties will say anything to smear the right whether or not it makes sense. woe be unto anyone on the right who would make the slightest insinuation about BO based on facts. Damn it is a long way to November….I guess I picked the wrong year to quit sniffing glue (hee hee).

How mental is this host? How much of a bottom-feeder is he to whore attention to himself by making this claim? Why does he lie when he says he is happy that the prisoners were rescued?
I’m just asking questions.

You make your luck. McCain lucked out in visiting our ally at this time–hell, he was criticized for even going on the basis that he should be focusing on domestic issues.
Bambi couldn’t go there because he is against Columbia and agianst Nafta for Columbia– one of the few remaining US allies we have in the hemisphere and one we should be supporting to the max.
At least he was as recently as a few days ago…

Just like MSNBC is a sham to benefit libs.
Ian on July 3, 2008 at 2:07 PM
They forgot the first rule of conspiracy theorists – there has to be some benefit to McCain of having a successful rescue occur while he happened to be there.
Think_b4_speaking on July 3, 2008 at 2:07 PM
maybe the Columbians timed it with his visit, to try and sway the election….needing our support and the possible military base and all

PatriotPete on July 3, 2008 at 2:07 PM
My understanding was that McCain and crew didn’t even know about the rescue until they were in the air going to Mexico. How in the hell can McCain jump out of a plane, rescue the hostages in a helicopter and get back on board the plane (via the columbian air force) in 30 minutes or less?
Hmmmmmm, McCain-Impossible anyone?
Lets humm the song… do do dodo do do dodo dooodoooodoooooo

What exactly is it about MSNBC that they draw goofballs like this? I mean, Mathews, Olbermann, this clown; it is like a frigging insane asylum on that station and the inmates are the ones in charge!

Careful there my friend. Darth RoveBusHitlerCheneGang will have you sent for waterboarding for revealing their secret plans!
On a serious note:
A superb operation performed on many levels, both in Colombia and the US.
As for the leftists, what do you expect? Liberalism truly is a mental disease, and it appears to be infectious.
Happy 4th of July everyone!
I know there are 15 more people and their families that realize the importance of tomorrow.
SwampRat on July 3, 2008 at 2:10 PM
Did that idiot insinuate that there was negotiating with the terrorists? There’s no evidence of that.
At least Buchanan correctly points out that if it had failed, McCain would have been blamed.
Of course it is. So what if the US had a hand in the plan. And what if President Bush sent McCain as a representative to make sure it went well. How’s that for a conspiracy? I say more power to us for helping get those people the farc out of there!

Meanwhile Nancy and Barry are trying to starve Uribe. Hey, Nancy met with Assad, though.

Liberals must believe McCain is Superman. After all, they swallowed the “snatched up a Sandinista” claim hook, line, and stinker.
Let me get this straight…a 51 year old man, so brutalized by his captivity as a P.O.W. that he cannot raise his arms above his head or put on a jacket by himself, was able to manhandle another person before anyone else could interced.

None of this would have been necessary if Bush hadn’t sold these prisoners to his buddy terrorists in the first place.
And orchestrating a large tsunami in Indonesia soon after to deflect any sort of investigation? Pure genius. Not that he is genius, it was his puppet-masters who planned the whole thing.
But he had to go one step further and cast flooding upon New Orleans to drum up some sympathy for America from the world, and simultaneously increasing oil prices for his friends in the process. His deep-seated hatred of black people prevented his even trying to help out.
All because he started this domino effect by piloting airplanes into a couple of buildings in New York and cowardly parachuting before impact.
Darth Cheney is proud.

Dude, they believe that George Bush is beholden to the Israelis in everything. That somehow George Bush knew about 9/11 in advance. That 9/11 was an inside job. That Osama bin Laden isn’t a terrorist. That George Bush controls the weather and made the levees in New Orleans fail. That George Bush controls the idiots in charge of Louisiana so that they were completely inept during Katrina. That he lied about Iraq for oil. That because he wanted more oil so that our oil was cheaper, we went to war, won the war, winning the fight against the terrorists there, but our gas is $4.00/gallon so you know the war was for cheap OIL!!! That poor widdle Ahmadinejad is just misunderstood. That Che is a hero. That Winston Churchill was a warmonger. That Obama really believes in “HOPE and CHANGE!!”

These are the same people who claimed that George Herbert Walker Bush flew a SR-71 blackbird to paris in 1980 in an effort to damage President Jimmy Carter’s prospects in the election.
If I recall correctly (can’t find a link anywhere) that Rush Limbaugh quoted some democrat on the floor of the house saying “there is no evidence” that Bush (senior) did this, therefore, “we must investigate.” This was in retaliation to Carter being so soundly beaten in the polls, and the US hostages being released by the Iranians.

No, you naive fool, McCain lost his temper at some college student who “budded” in front of him at Starbucks whilst wearing a Che shirt. McCain than beat the crap out of the college kid with a baseball bat and a hockey stick (at the same time!!). Then stole the poor kid’s shirt. That’s why he can never be President!!!!
Of course, I heard this at a Grateful Dead Concert from a guy smoking a doob, so it could be slightly wrong.

Talk about a dastardly coward! Riddly who no doubt considers himself a “journalist” is too damn lazy to go to Columbia (or contact his contacts in Colombia) to find the answers to HIS question of McCain’s honor and international prowess. Compare McCain’s smarts and Obama’s dumbs. McCain either knows or else has the survivor’s star to be at the right place at the right moment to see things done properly. Obama doesn’t want it known that FARC endorses him, and Obama discredits the Colombian President and the IMPROVED ethics in Colombian government! Had Obama visited Colombia, he would have been caught by the Colombian government forces with his pants down making a deal with FARC.

I think you’ve made a really critical point: the smears and accusations are always delivered in this mealy-mouthed, sly way of “just asking questions”. I saw Jesse Ventura do the same thing today on Fox & Friends by “just asking questions” about 9/11 and how the building that wasn’t hit [but got affected by falling debris!] fell. Thank you for calling this tactic out.

Beslan was “off the grid” in 2004. Until murdering terrorists took over a school and blew it up. All that did was create MILLIONS of “security Moms” and probably won the election for George Bush.
Every incident that reminds America’s voters that there is still a world out there full of murdering thugs who do things like kidnap candidates for president and hold them for six years, and that it takes a president with balls to stand up to them and win, is a good thing for our side. Every incident that can help voters understand that free trade helps the good guys and hurts the bad guys is a good thing.
