The story is the stuff of which could be made an excellent film. My expectations, however, of Hollywood is that they’ll find some way to make the U.S. look bad, FARC to look well dressed and well mannered (among other things) and the expected Left honoring of Che Guevera, failing to include the fact that Che was a psychotic murderer.

In reality — non theatrical interpretations aside — this is a wonderful event and all I can add is, “well done, Columbia.”

Well…maybe I can add this: “cheburger, cheburger, cheburger!”

Ah, good times, good times.

The worst I had was some 40 something hippie walk up and start spouting off about America’s evil corporate empire building etc. etc. She started talking about “If Che were alive today” and I stopped her with a smile and said “Yes, but thank God that murdering communist is in Hell with Lenin and Stalin, so we don’t have to worry about that part of this conversation”. She was so angry she looked like she was going to pop.

Good times. :)

Whether that was an instinctive touch of class or just smart politics (or, most likely, both), it was well played.

More than likely, he was afraid that the eventual reports would show that the Terrorists of FARC were not given their constitutionally guaranteed access to a lawyer or that the good guys cheated in some other way. Hell, McCain throws everybody else under the bus as soon as the Press raises any questions.
