Not so much “funny ha ha” as “funny this is what McCain has to do to win the election, isn’t it?”
I’m sitting here telling myself that the reason they went so far over the top was to make the satire double-barreled, one aimed at Bush and the other at terminal BDS sufferers. But … no, they’re more or less on the same wavelength as the latter.

Well, at least he didn’t get the left coast. They’re already
insufferablesuffering enough as it is.BacaDog on July 2, 2008 at 9:33 PM
I went to the Onion’s home page the other day and it was basically a sprawling love affair with gay culture. I think they’re sufficiently leftist now that they wouldn’t dare poke fun at BDS people.
jimmy the notable on July 2, 2008 at 9:38 PM
It would be funny if it wasn’t true.
muyoso on July 2, 2008 at 9:41 PM
And here I thought the disaster was a reshowing of the 2006 election and its effects on America.
William Amos on July 2, 2008 at 9:43 PM
There you go.
wise_man on July 2, 2008 at 9:43 PM
Not the funniest Onion I’ve ever seen, but hey, content is content, right AP?
VolMagic on July 2, 2008 at 9:46 PM
Yeah, record low unemployment for most of his term. Most polls showing that quality of life is improving. etc.
Could it be any worse?
jimmy the notable on July 2, 2008 at 9:49 PM
The colour scheme is all wrong, its confusing!
How will the enviromental wacko tree huggers
understand it,Al Gore says its all about the
green,so really shouldn’t the most damage be
in the colour green,I,I, mean their confused
already,ya know this isn’t going to help them!
And some American’s riding out Bush disaster in
Canada,here’s an update!
In regard’s to WOT,the secruity concerns of Canada
mirror that of the Bush Administration,so it is of
no surprise after carefully going through the pass
ports, that almost all, are Liberal Democrats, and
another surprise is that they are war dodgers, and
some go all the way back to WW1,but most were from
the draft dodging Vietnam era!
And all the rest were illegal aliens that are from
south of the border of the great State of Texas, and
mixed in that batch were ACLU Lawyers!
canopfor on July 2, 2008 at 9:49 PM
We can laugh at this because it is satire.
If Obama gets elected, the devastation will not be so funny.
carbon_footprint on July 2, 2008 at 9:50 PM
Ha, forgot your sarc tag Missy.
carbon_footprint on July 2, 2008 at 9:52 PM
No man is an island.

Onion is increasingly Tilting Left, Tilting Lame, and not tilting funny
Besides, the Left for the past decade or so repeatedly lampoons itself, so who needs onions?
Janos Hunyadi on July 2, 2008 at 9:53 PM
Obama’s term will be so bad, I guarentee you the Onion guys won’t be able to joke about it. They’ll be too busy working second and third jobs to pay for bandwidth…if there’s any jobs to be found.
SuperCool on July 2, 2008 at 9:56 PM
I thought it was hilarious because to hear The Left speak, it’s exactly what they think!
SouthernGent on July 2, 2008 at 9:56 PM

Breaking:
The sun will not come up in the morning as expected. This is due, of course, to the evil Booooosh presidency.
hillbillyjim on July 2, 2008 at 9:57 PM
The Onion isn’t a satire of left and right. It’s a satire of media. Whatever the media does, they amp it up to 11. Seriously, this is no different than their “90% of Alzheimer’s Patients Say They Feel Fine” video.
The Left thinks this crap is real and the Right has utterly lost all perspective.
Krydor on July 2, 2008 at 10:00 PM
They forgot to include all of the post 9/11 terrorist attacks that Bush allowed to occur.
That incompetent, torture-loving Chimphitler-in-Chief.
profitsbeard on July 2, 2008 at 10:02 PM
Did you see their movie that came out recently? It was most amusing, and the closest thing to Monthy Python humor I’ve ever seen produced in America. Hilarious.
VolMagic on July 2, 2008 at 10:03 PM
Not quite.
LINK *Good taste Warning*
The people at the Onion have a clear political agenda. They are about as “a satire of the media” as The Daily Show and Stephen Colbert.
wise_man on July 2, 2008 at 10:06 PM
VolMagic on July 2, 2008 at 10:03 PM
Not yet. It’s on my “must see” list, though. If it’s “Kentucky Fried Movie” good, then I’ll be pleased. Python good is something that I dare not wish for.
Krydor on July 2, 2008 at 10:08 PM
You must not have been aware of the fact that last week’s edition of the Onion was specifically dedicated to homosexuals. That WAS the gag.
The Onion does tilt to the left, but I don’t think one can truly say that they’re leftist, because they’ll absolutely brutalize liberals and Democrats in ways that other liberal satire outlets *coughDailyShowcough* would never dare to.
Vyce on July 2, 2008 at 10:08 PM

wise_man on July 2, 2008
Dude, trust me on this, it is a picture perfect satire of media.
Does this look like a leftist agenda?
They took shots at Clinton as well.
Krydor on July 2, 2008 at 10:19 PM
Unfortunately muyoso, the PaulNut, did not forget their “sarc tag”.
malan89 on July 2, 2008 at 10:20 PM
I think it may be… a joke. Onion has been known to occasionally post some satirical material
freevillage on July 2, 2008 at 10:20 PM
Krydor on July 2, 2008 at 10:08 PM
Yeah. I might have gone overboard. It’s not as good as Monty, per se, but it has that flow and feel to it, with sketches running into one another.

Wow, guess I won’t counter with the death toll and wounded toll from Iraq. Nor will I counter with the still open borders. Nor will I counter with the gas prices which have increased nearly 3 dollars a gallon during his 2 terms. Nor will I counter with his failure to catch Bin Laden. Nor will I counter with his failure to prosecute captured terrorists. Nor will I counter with his failure to finish the job in Afghanistan. Nor will I counter with his failure to maintain the value of a dollar. Nor will I counter with his failure to fix the public education system, as he promised.
He has done 2 positive things as president. He let the AWB lapse, which involved him doing nothing. And he passed tax cuts. So basically, he actually DID one thing positive as president.
muyoso on July 2, 2008 at 10:25 PM
@ malan89 on July 2, 2008 at 10:20 PM
Haha, not a paulnut. Just a realist. He has done almost nothing he promised, and what he has done has not been good for the country. As a republican, its not my job to apologize for people when they fail. A true republican should be the first one out there yelling at him to close the border, get tougher in Iraq, get tougher in Afhganistan, prosecute the people we capture, reduce taxes even further, and for god sakes, do something to help the economy and failing dollar. But apparently you are labeled a nut when you ask for such CRAZY things as those.
muyoso on July 2, 2008 at 10:29 PM

Works for me, then. Sounds more “Mr. Show”. Heck, I’ll even take “Mr. Show” good.
Krydor on July 2, 2008 at 10:30 PM
I did not even chuckle.
kahall on July 2, 2008 at 10:36 PM
Also, its sickening as a conservative, how much money has been wasted and how many shady things have gone on during the wars overseas. Its hard to talk about this without sounding like a deranged liberal, because we have been hearing it from them for the past 5 years, but you know what, there might be a point to some of their madness. The no-bid contracts that have gone to companies which truly had no experience in the awarded fields is amazing. Watched a documentary on it which aired on either Nat Geo, or Discovery, and its downright sickening. As conservatives, we should be OUTRAGED, but for some reason, not a single conservative I have ever seen online has said ANYTHING critical about it. I understand the initial reaction to defend Bush, but seriously, I think it has gone WAY over the line when you are defending companies getting contracts whose inexperience is leading to the deaths of American military members.
muyoso on July 2, 2008 at 10:38 PM
Oh, yeah. Totally.
… is so totally on par with their ‘comedy’ of Laura Bush, “I Wish I could stop sh*tting blood.”
Absolutely. Sure. Completely on par.
wise_man on July 2, 2008 at 10:38 PM
muyoso on July 2, 2008 at 10:25 PM
That’s quite a list. Lets review:
Every death and casualty is a tragedy. Get a history book and compare numbers, if that is your game.
Seeing as how oil is in a fungible market, the only thing he could have done was boost domestic production. He had no reason to in his first term, and in both terms faced a congress that was disinclined to acquiese to his wishes is that was his choice (note a lot of (R)’s fancy themselves conservationists)
He is neither a King nor a Wizard. Some things aren’t in his control, and others are blocked by those pesky checks and balances, which I would assume a Paul supporter like yourself would be a fan of.
History books are your friend. Transforming a region (country) is a difficult and long process. Doubly so for a place like Afghanistan.
The Fed has control over this. Fiscal policy is notoriously bad at appreciating the dollar. Thus it is left to the Fed to move it with monetary policy. The low federal fund rates lead to inflation and dollar depreciation, bad but sometimes necessary.
You got me there. Although the only thing he could really have done is abolish the DOE, something a “compassionate conservative” like him would never do.
How did I do?

I saw the same documentary, I believe, about KBR and food services and how they would destroy costly vehicles if they blew a tire. To the extent it is true, it is outrageous, and I heartily add my voice to your dissent.

wise_man on July 2, 2008
Strawman, indeed. You think I’m misrepresenting your position?
I’m countering the following
a) The Onion is in the tank for Obama
b) The Onion rarely attacks the left
Yes, and George Bush has done nothing to warrant these scurrilous attacks. I have no idea what the clear political agenda is, and I suspect that if you have been reading the Online version since the Mid 90’s, you would come to the same conclusion.
My argument is that the Onion is nothing more than the media ramped up to 11. That’s what I see because I work in the media. I have had this same discussion with lefties who praise the awesome editorial depth of the Onion.
At least I now know why British sitcoms are remade for American audiences, you dudes just don’t understand satire. Seriously, you don’t get it.

Canada, or for that matter, most European countries may appear to have some sympathy with the American left, but I’ll guarantee ya they would watch more than few of those whiny bitches cross the border before they put up a fence.
Dusty on July 2, 2008 at 11:51 PM
Krydor on July 2, 2008 at 11:48 PM
Please don’t lump us all in with wisey.
Plus, British sitcoms get remade for American audiences because we like aesthetically pleasing females in them ;)

The pages you linked show a clear leftist agenda to me. Particularly when it comes to politics. Compare the Bill Clinton search results with George Bush 2008. Are those the best examples to prove your point?
myamphibian on July 2, 2008 at 11:56 PM
I used to read The Onion all of the time back in the second half of the 90’s but stopped because of it’s predominant leftward slant, but it wasn’t uncommon for them to poke fun at the left just as brutally from time to time. Regardless of their political slant, they’ve produced some hilarious material over the years.
FloatingRock on July 3, 2008 at 12:00 AM
With the messiah around nobody likes the clintons anymore.

Obama Practices Looking Off Into The Future Pose
You can watch a morning show on the alphabets or on cable news. You can watch MSNBC, Fox News or CNN. If you can’t see that the Onion mocks the base stupidity of the anchors and the content free “news”, then I say that you have never watched American broadcast TV.
More and more these days, I feel as though I’ve walked into ‘Brave New World’.
Krydor on July 3, 2008 at 1:58 AM
Some of their stuff is great, and even transcends their idiotic liberalism. Not this. It was just dumb and unfunny.
Jaibones on July 3, 2008 at 9:37 AM
Then you’re utterly clueless, or you’re a lefty and therefore blind on the issue.
ONN is often funny because they are really good at the art of parody, and that talent often outshines their irrepressible leftism. But only a fool would fail to understand that leftism drives their entire point of view. No one is that blind.
Jaibones on July 3, 2008 at 9:42 AM
TKO. Raise your right hand and smile for the cameras.

France is probably off their list until Sarkozy leaves office, but I’d sure like them to take up residence in the St-Denis suburb to appreciate the nightly carbeques.

No, I’ve spent 15+ years in television news production. I’ve dealt with clueless idiots who can barely pronounce their own names use their position to convey absolute moral authority on umpteen topics.
ONN is often funny because they are really good at the art of parody, and that talent often outshines their irrepressible leftism. But only a fool would fail to understand that leftism drives their entire point of view. No one is that blind.
Yes, they are good at the art of parody. If their leftism is what makes them funny, then I put it to you that the right sucks at humour. I would also put it to you that such a statement is self evident based on the reactions to the Onion satire.
If you think that the Onion thinks Bush is to blame for everything, then it is you who are clueless and blinded by ideology.

Krydor on July 3, 2008 at 11:23 AM
I thought this was pretty funny and I see it as a parody based on MSM memes that Bush is responsible for everything that goes wrong, including hurricanes. I don’t see this as a deeply held position of the Onion community.
Buy Danish on July 3, 2008 at 12:47 PM
I’m sure Bush haters will find it funny. I didn’t.
