“I know – I’m sitting here saying, ‘What are these people smoking?’ You know, the truth is that Rush Limbaugh has been – he’s ridden the rise of conservatism for 25 years and I don’t, maybe nobody quite, quite has been following the news, but that’s coming to an end.”

For those who don’t listen to Rush………
1. Rush is about celebrate 20 years on the radio this August. That means he started during the first Bush’s 4 years and his show grew. Then came 8 years of Clinton and his show grew. Now it’s coming to the end of the second Bush’s 8 years and Rush’s show continues to grow. It didn’t matter who was in office his show continued to grow. It will in the future no matter who’s in office.
2. Rush admits it takes 3 weeks of persistent listening to understand his show. Only then do you begin to understand who he is and what he all about. Take the challenge.
Bogeyfre on July 3, 2008 at 4:05 AM
Change??? As long as he continues to be a mouthpiece for Obama, Rush Limbaugh will have an audience. Michael Wolff is clueless on this. Conservative voices will be heard and will be even more in demand if Obama wins, or even if McCain wins for that matter. As the democrats, socialists, and liberals start to try to implement their idea of “change” upon America, conservative voices will become even more popular.
Dollayo on July 3, 2008 at 4:06 AM
He said that?
I liked him the first time I heard him :/
It’s been ten years and I still like him.

I’ll bet it takes ol’ Gavin Newsom an hour every day to get his panties untwisted after Savage goes off the air.

g’night all time to snooze
Ugly on July 3, 2008 at 4:41 AM
Are you up to speed? It only takes six weeks to get the context of this program.
-Rush Limbaugh
Sorry, I’m a charter member of the Limbaugh Institute, been listening since ‘88.
labrat on July 3, 2008 at 4:42 AM
Me too. See you all on the flip side.
labrat on July 3, 2008 at 4:46 AM
Maybe there is something to what Wolff said, but not what he thinks. If things continue their turn to the Left, Conservatives may find themselves so left out of the “mainstream” that large numbers (finally!) go Reactionary. Limbaugh’s days may be winding down, not because he’ll be seen by his Conservative listeners as too extreme, but rather as not extreme enough.

May God Bless el Rushbo!
Zorro on July 3, 2008 at 7:03 AM
The only “CHANGE” this bozo can point to is the certainty of the fairness doctrine being passed. The polls don’t look good and it is one of the highest priorities for the Dems.
I hope that pushes non-regulated media, satellite and wifi in cars and portable devices – to new heights and puts a fork in MSM dominance.
It’s funny how every time the government tries to “fix” something the market brings them a boatload of unintended consequences.

Porr Jeff Poor, he probably thinks the demise of newspapers across the land is a fluke down cycle.
Well. time will tell, ha ha ha.
TheSitRep on July 3, 2008 at 7:25 AM
Can anyone believe the hypocrisy of these lefties? They make up 90% of the mainstream media, and they STILL want to silence Talk Radio with the fairness doctrin? Absolutely pathetic. Weak and pathetic.
marklmail on July 3, 2008 at 7:42 AM
God bless Rush Limbaugh.
$400 Million and worth every cent.
edgehead on July 3, 2008 at 7:45 AM
I find it funny that all these jealous talking heads are asking if Rush is worth $400 mil, yet no one bats an when -insert celeb of choice- makes $20 mil or so for a month of work…playing make believe.
Has Keith Overbite weighed in yet?

I really do prefer the other quote:
That my friends, is priceless. If that doesn’t get read over the air today by a dozen talk radio hosts I will be sorely disappointed.
ConfigSys.boy on July 3, 2008 at 7:58 AM
Having just read Hugh Hewitt’s Letter to a Young Obama Supporter, this quote of the day really stands out. Hewitt was patronizing to his young reader’s IQ, and I don’t think that he countered the effect that Wolff has on the idealistic, inexperienced, highly energized, intelligent/ignorant American youth. Wolff’s blather was indeed to insult conservatives and attempt to built the tsunami of propaganda to isolate and obliterate conservatives, attempting to coerce submission to his radical destruction of our world.
Them’s fightin’ words. Talk about a direct threat! The world has seen fascism kicking in bedroom doors at night, dragging out the conservatives to be executed/assassinated. American youth fall into two GENERAL catagories. 1) Radicals who’d love to clear out the responsibilities that traditional Constitutional life requires; prefering a mother state (whether national or even global mother earth state preferable) and no personal responsibility. 2) Ignorance is bliss youth suffering the universal idealism that we all experienced as a passage in life while innocent or naive, who don’t realize where marxism leads, who don’t know our own American experience with fascism, who refute that THEIR GOOD INTENTIONS (often swayed by dope hope) could result in anything bad because THEY are not bad, “the system” “the establishment” “the conservatives” THE NEO-CONS are bad. These young voters actually look around and blame everything that they find UNCOMFORTABLE on other people than themselves. It is called immaturity. These youth believe THEY could never be blamed for the consequences of what happens because of what they either do or neglect to observe; and couple that lack of insight with their ignorantly convoluted projection blaming conservatives for the ills that the progressives have wrought in America! Now triple that with their blind inexperience and indoctrination from school and the media that the DNC is where popularity lies. Now compound everything with their stupidity (rejection of truth as taught/experienced) as they think fascism would come from our Constitutional conservatives, and that their progressive marxist mentors would NEVER allow fascism in their utopia! Tralala, follow the Bobama Pied Piper over the cliff.
As per conservative talk radio hosts, they all play their own unique role in our world; to each their own. I like them all to one degree or another. Like some here, I take my daily dose of Rush for a while to hear what he has to say. That most radio hosts stick to one topic for an entire lengthy segment is usual, regardless of a host’s politics. People tune in/out, and the point needs to be made for those who don’t stay for the entire program. That some radio hosts move the conversation along and cover a wider array of topics within the overall framework of a subject makes them more “interesting” to stay with over the duration of the program. That personalities come into play is what performance entails. How the host uses persona determines who is attracted or disturbed. But that each “sincere” conservative host plays a unique role in motivating and securing the conservative MOVEMENT is appreciable. I do wish that the “artist” portion of each host could endure a summit of sorts, that they’d convene on occasion without personal barbs over jealousy or spite over perceived slights. Maybe El Rusho will host a summer BBQ for a media blitz? How cool to see Michael Savage talking nice–heh, we know he can be nice, and they can all get over their insider cliques to show conservative voters HOW TO ALLY and converse appropriately to sway social conversations, coin our own rebuttals and pass around the spare change, verbally let the air out of the opponents’ tires.
KUDOS, RUSH! Glad to hear Rush is endorsed and well funded.
(And so glad to hear Laura Ingraham back live on the radio!)
maverick muse on July 3, 2008 at 8:08 AM
I will paraphrase Ann Coulter on this:
The reason that liberal talk shows fail is because their ideas can be debunked by any truck driver with a cell phone.
Limited government and personal liberty will NEVER come to an end. (If they do I will pull an Alec Baldwin)

“When change comes, it is going to be devastating and absolute.”
Scratch a leftist, find a fascist.
N. O'Brain on July 3, 2008 at 8:18 AM
Exactly right, though I would guess his contract has an “If they pass the goddam ‘Fairness Doctrine’ all bets are off” clause. And if the Dems get a 60+ Senate majority, you can bet they will.
If that happened, Rush would doubtless go to satellite radio, cable-TV channels, and the Internet. If necessary, he would give away 20 million satellite receivers and make his show free, so he could still attract ad revenue.
I have a little experience in radio, and have listened to talkers since the late Jerry Williams in Boston in the mid-’60s. Rush is undoubtedly the most talented broadcaster I have ever heard, and also the best extemporaneous political analyst anywhere.
This guy Wolff’s idea that Rush would “move leftward” if the ‘country’ did is poppycock. Rush is one of the most principled men on the planet, and he is not going to abandon those principles, not an inch.
An employee of mine, back in the early ’90s, a New Age liberal, asked me, “Do you listen to him for the entertainment value, or because you agree with him?”
“Both,” I replied. And I’m sure that’s true of most listeners.
MrLynn on July 3, 2008 at 8:18 AM
I listened all through college, I became more of a Boortz/Gallagher man later, I stopped listening in the primaries. Rush annoys me a little bit, the dittoheads annoy me alot more though.
Squid Shark on July 3, 2008 at 8:27 AM
The free market at work! People tune in, companies pay to advertise their stuff on his show and he makes gobs of cash. Air America goes bankrupt and steals money from other people… And now they are running one of these corrupt creeps for Senate in my state (MN) and he will probably win because our current Senator is a Dill Weed…
sabbott on July 3, 2008 at 8:39 AM
My first thought when reading Wolff’s “Things change” quote? I thought he was reading the script from that faux Obama ad – you know, the one where people are saying (obviously not verbatim here – it’s pre-coffee time) “I believe in hope. And Obama hopes in hope. And the future is in front of us, with hope, and the past is behind us.”

Much truth to what you say here Bogeyfre…
I’ve been a regular listener for the past (16) years. What attracts me to Rush is simple; the man makes bold predictions and they turn out to be correct about 98% of the time. The man knows the Liberal media like no other human on this planet. The man puts words to my feelings on a regular basis. The man put a voice on Conservatism. The man pulled the covers right off people like Al Gore, taking on the media talking points (brainwash) at every turn. The man stood alone (for years) against a very powerful & very large organized crime network working in the shadows against the country, calling this network out everyday while backing up his claims with sound bites and facts showing the crimes committed. This organized crime network has been correctly labeled by Rush as the Democrat Party & the willing partners labeled as the MSM… Rush Limbaugh stood alone for years fighting the righteous battle against the enemy within; then came help in the form of Savage, Hannity, et al… Those who hate Rush really hate what Rush has done to this crime network. Those who hate Rush do so because they find themselves defenseless against the truth about themselves. Those who simply don’t like Rush because of his personality; that will always be the case in life, as Rush is not for everybody. One things for certain, Rush gave millions of people a voice of reason in a sea of brainwash.
Rock on Rush!
Keemo on July 3, 2008 at 9:12 AM
I like to remember things. I remember so many predictions from people that are suppose to be smarter than me coming to nothing. If talk radio has declined in the past few years, it is because the news is bad. I don’t feel much like listening myself, on certain days, when I know the news is bad. Or, when I know the host sounds like he is whining or repeating the problem over and over. I am anxious for good news and I am anxious for solutions. I listen to Rush because he is not like that.
As for conservatism coming to an end?? That is destined for one of those made for the trash can predictions. It is more wishful thinking, than a serious prediction.
Again, I am not suppose to be smarter than that guy, I am just a low paid schmuck, trying to make a living. I look around and i see something different. I see a nation and a climate, where the media is little more than a propaganda tool for the Democrats. I see a Republican party that has become the “meaningless” party. They have no spine, no plan and the only vision they ever seem to mouth is “We’re going to lose seats!” And then there’s more, but why go further,,, but with all that, we have a savior called Obama that, if conservatism is dead dying, should be 50 points ahead.
Conservatism is not dead, it’s just fine. The Democrats are where they are because it has been handed to them by a Republican party that quit. Democrats are not smarter, better fighters or produce a better message. They simply show up on the battlefield each day while the Republicans stay under the bed.
JellyToast on July 3, 2008 at 9:13 AM
The only thing that could CHANGE is potential federal legislation that would strip the media’s ability to function freely based upon what the market wants.
Can you tell how badly this guy wants that? He’s literally salivating at the thought.
GeeWhiz on July 3, 2008 at 9:14 AM
as Pilot figured, “Truth, what is truth?!”
Ironic to remember, Pilot was the “conservative” in his day.
But then, those who call themselves “liberal” are not classical liberals, only radical marxists. They have played revisionism with language. So whatever they say, following their lack of credential, following the word’s convolution by revision, what all they say is unfounded.
All of the “neo-con” ranting also fails to come from the historical record. Even “revisionism” requires an original text to massacre. These radicals live the lie, wherein there is no truth in their darkness; they do not comprehend the light of truth, but deny its veracity and seek its obliteration. They ERASE more than they revise. (Arnold made a movie that’s as much biographical as sci-fi.)

Rush is not a bigot, just and arrogant blowhard.
Squid Shark on July 3, 2008 at 9:19 AM
So let’s say 50% of the nation is conservative, 50% of the nation is going to change their mind quickly?
Rush’s best moments were when the Dems were in power, look at the ammunition they give him.
I am no big fan of Rush’s (I was, but once an actor/entertainer reaches a certain level, they become obsessed with themselves, it comes with the territory of being catered and pampered), but he is the best at what he does, not because he is conservative (and I am glad he is), but because he is just plain good at doing his shtick. He is a great entertainer, but I think his audience is also hungry for the conservative view. Case in point is Hannity getting such strong ratings, we hunger for our side to be presented, even to the point of listening to Hannity.
right2bright on July 3, 2008 at 9:31 AM
I think Michael Wolff may be right here. But his comment is really just an experimentation in how to get more people to know your name.
gabriel sutherland on July 3, 2008 at 9:54 AM
Read the tea leaves. Clear Channel thinks Obama will win, the Democrats will increase their majority in both halls of Congress, and this will create the ideal environment for people to tune into the one show that already is syndicated everywhere in North America.
Does Rush have a spanish language simulcast? I wonder if this new contract says he has to have one.
gabriel sutherland on July 3, 2008 at 9:57 AM
Is that why he makes 400 Mil.
Johan Klaus on July 3, 2008 at 9:57 AM
He had better have one in Texas. Dial one for spanish.
Johan Klaus on July 3, 2008 at 10:01 AM
These media elites really think conservatism is diminishing! Its stronger than ever. How clueless are these people?
The problem being that the middle Ameircan voter wants the nation to move rightward with more emphasis on our Nation and less consideration of world opinion. And the small pocket of globalists within the GOP Hierarchy are resisting with all their might. They think, for now, that all they need is the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and the WSJ backing them. Who needs votes? In their arrogance they believe they know best. They learned nothing on 11/7/06.
Hence, vast numbers of middle Americans have become exasperated and simply dropped out of the process. Giving the appearance of a shrinking conservative movement. But thats not the case. Rather, its a shrinking GOP. Two totally different occurances. DD
Darvin Dowdy on July 3, 2008 at 10:37 AM
I suggest shorting whatever stocks Wolff recommeds buying, instead of shorting Clear Channel. Wolff has shown he does not know what he is talking about.
Think_b4_speaking on July 3, 2008 at 10:37 AM
What a smarmy little butt pirate. It’s not surprising a creature like that is a regular nbc contributor. The change that dirtbag is hoping for is the complete takeover by the fascists in the democrat party. The sad and scary thing is they may shut down talk radio and the internet next year and if Rush’s money was upfront then it might really be a bad deal.
peacenprosperity on July 3, 2008 at 10:58 AM
Don’t waste your breath, rinos don’t like conservatism.
peacenprosperity on July 3, 2008 at 11:00 AM
I guess if a liberal keeps repeating it then it must be true. What idiot.
Conservatism isn’t dead. Since the uninformed, take care of me sheep have the same voting power it makes things difficult. 1 douche bag cancels me out. If someone makes an informed decision than I can respect their choice even if I disagree with it. If that same person can’t make a logical non emotional argument why they voted that way then I have zero respect for them. Unfortunately there are more uninformed people than ever

He hooked me with his first condom update. Playing “Up Up and Away in My Beautiful Balloon” … LOL.
I love Rush and his parodies. Exposing absurdity by being absurd.
roux on July 3, 2008 at 12:05 PM
Considering some public rumors, perhaps Rush’s only use for condoms is as “beautiful balloons”?
Thinking, concerned, serious individuals use them to prevent STDs, unwanted pregnancies and the deadly transmission of HIV Aids. For every one that might fail; thousands complete their assigned mission with complete containment…!
Humorous parodies, analogies and metaphors are better left to such frivolous pursuits as muckraking in partisan politics, in which Rush is a past master.

Why is it that more and more stations are picking up Rush’s program. I wish one of the radio stations in Syracuse would pick up Neil Boortz so I could listen from 8-12 and then turn on Rush’s three hours. Love the “Right”.
