Awesome: Iraqi Shiite TV network runs PSA blaming Iran for violence

Superb, although it might be too subtle. I didn’t even notice the Iranian flag on the first run-through, and I wonder if most Iraqis will recognize the commander of the Quds Force from his photo. As intriguing as the clip itself is who’s airing it: Al-Furat, which belongs to ISCI, a.k.a. SCIRI, the Sadrists’ rivals for Shiite supremacy and formerly Iran’s proxy of choice inside Iraq. They’ve drifted away from Tehran and towards the U.S. over the past year, but until seeing this I assumed they had good relations with both sides. Now I don’t know what to think. It could be, I guess, that they’re simply miffed at Iran for favoring Sadr and are out for revenge, but even if that’s all there is to it, there must be some potent anti-Iranian sentiment circulating among Iraqi Shiites these days to make a spot like this worth running.
Below that you’ll find its counterpoint — vintage anti-semitism, replete with scholarly paeans to the “Protocols of the Elders of Zion” and adorned with grotesque cartoons about Jewish world domination, currently airing on Iran network IRINN. I like to think this is what’s on opposite Galloway when he’s doing his tapdance for Press TV. Click the images to watch; the second clip’s long, so if you’d rather skim the transcript, have at it.

Right now Maliki is rolling up Sadr’s organization in the East.

I agree we should run ads like this and many others but the left-tards would merely scoff at this and regurgitate their standard “it’s fear mongering” meme.
Liberty or Death on July 2, 2008 at 6:51 PM
Well, it IS fear mongering. But it is fear mongering about something about which we should actually be fearful, instead of the left’s usual fear mongering about being fearful of fear mongering, which is just stupid and counterproductive.

See, I’d be ok with a global Jewish kingdom. Tolerant, no nonsense folks willing to stand up as a democracy amidst a near overwhelming tide of fascist theocracies…
What’s so bad about this?

Interesting! Al-Fourat is generally supportive of diplomacy with Iran, and Shi’ite extremist violence is conveniently neglected from their broadcasts. It’s a crazy world sometimes.

The Iraqis are not too happy with Iran right now. SIIC supports what Maliki’s dismantling of JAM as well.

Telling the truth is never fear mongering, it’s just telling the truth.

While the Iraqi’s might not notice that flag or know who that commander is, the Iranians certainly will. This is a message aimed more at Iran and I think it will be heard loud and clear.

I’m pretty skeptical about Iraq especially after reading many of the old British accounts of their efforts. (Gertrude Bell Project) But any time a Shia faction seems to oppose Tehran that’s a good thing. Making the Iranians de facto rulers of Iraq is the most compelling argument our efforts have failed. So if it’s not true then it’s the most compelling argument for success.
Hugh Fitzgerald would rap me on the knuckles for ‘hoping’ things work out, over the wisdom of experience, but I’m afraid that’s all I’ve got.

Global warming, eh, climate change will kill us all.

“climate change will kill us all”
At least the Canadians. At some point in the next 100 centuries or so, Canada will be under about a mile of ice and every single building will be deposited somewhere between New York state and Montana after being scraped off the face of the Earth. But yeah, the sun brightens and expands as it ages so “global warming” is inevitable.

Just the fact that they are openly discussing how the money and bombs get into Iraq is a big deal. Even without the subliminals, there is only one country they could be referring to.
