No Name That Party?

WRAL obviously has a thing or two to learn about journalism. When a Republican gets caught in a sex scandal, mention the affiliation in the lede; when a Democrat gets arrested for sex crimes in connection with Satanic cult activities, avoid mentioning affiliation at all. Where’s the New York Times’ Style Guide when you need it?

Power Line also notes that Joy Johnson, the Democratic Party official — well, ex-official — also worked for the Durham People’s Alliance … which formed in support of Mike Nifong and the stripper who broke the law in attempting to frame innocent students of Duke University of the same crime alleged here. Listen to the whole report and let the mind boggle about how Johnson could have ascended to her role in the state party with a husband who advertised himself as a New Age magician, and not as entertainment.

This obviously does not represent North Carolina Democrats, but it’s certainly the kind of story that would get national press if the affiliation had been Republican.

BIG crickets too.

Change you can believe in.

JammieWearingFool on July 1, 2008 at 1:17 PM

It wasn’t just WRAL.

Check out this headline: Durham Democratic Party official accused in rituals

JammieWearingFool on July 1, 2008 at 1:19 PM

Sickos are sickos. No name needs to be attached.

However, if said story involves a Republican, you bet it will be above fold front page news.

Sir Napsalot on July 1, 2008 at 1:19 PM

This obviously does not represent North Carolina Democrats,

Are you sure…I think the Dems knew who they had, after all her husband was a practicer of “magick”, and well publicized. But who are they to question?

right2bright on July 1, 2008 at 1:19 PM

Durham People’s Alliance

Sounds typically Marxist.

ReubenJCogburn on July 1, 2008 at 1:19 PM

My dog’s name is “Cricket,” and she’s snoozing on her oSu mat of non-interference.

Snoozing, just like the press.

OhEssYouCowboys on July 1, 2008 at 1:20 PM

“She resigned her post, and we wish her the best going through these dificult times.”

Ummmmm, I don’t know about how others feel, when someone rapes and beats people I generally don’t wish them the best.

I will reserve judgement for the outcome of the trial.

Rode Werk on July 1, 2008 at 1:23 PM

Allegations that a local Democratic official and her husband were involved in satanic rituals that included shackling people to beds, caging them and depriving them of food and water have horrified county party leaders.

Why weren’t they invited, officials inquired. It is against the Democratic policies to hold a session without informing all of the Democratic leaders.
They are demanding minutes of the meeting to make sure policy was not passed without their consent….stated Democrat officials.

right2bright on July 1, 2008 at 1:23 PM

Get it straight - only Republicans are perverts. These people were clearly DINOs.

HawaiiLwyr on July 1, 2008 at 1:24 PM

Que? Almost at the start of the reporter’s piece, she mentions one of the defendants as “third vice-chair” of the local Democratic Party. I don’t get the feeling the station was trying to cover it up at all.

Isn’t anything anti-Christian a feather in the Democratic cap? Why is this such a big deal? As far as I’m concerned, it falls directly in-line with the hedonism and narcissism that infects America’s Socialists.

Had to laugh at the irony, and the double-entendre. Even if it wasn’t intended.

OhEssYouCowboys on July 1, 2008 at 1:28 PM

Satanism and socialism are usually found together. And Democrat is synonymous with socialist, so no big surprise.

Maxx on July 1, 2008 at 1:29 PM

Why would people who engage in a perverse death cult be drawn to Obama-style hard-left politics?

Abortion.
Euthanasia.
Pornography.
Anarchy.
Terrorist Sympathy.

Okay, but that’s nitpicking, isn’t it?

jeff_from_mpls on July 1, 2008 at 1:30 PM

Isn’t anything anti-Christian a feather in the Democratic cap?

Bashing christianity, making a huge deal about any wrong-doing from any christian, supporting ‘diversity’ by promoting other religions, always with a ‘they are better than christianity’ sneer …. yeah. Pretty much a lot of the very vocal democrat activists, but not so much as a plank in the democrat party.

wise_man on July 1, 2008 at 1:33 PM

Well, it’s not like she was a legislator or something, where they could have just said “State legislator blah-blah”. She was a party official, and it would have been, well, a bit odd to just say “A political party official blah-blah”.

In this case, they identified the party because they couldn’t avoid it.

flipflop on July 1, 2008 at 1:34 PM

I remember that flap awhile back concerning Satanism and backward masking, where hidden messages regarding Satan worship could be heard while playing certain rock albums backwards.

Gets you to wondering what you would hear if you played a B.O. speech backwards.

Awww, you forgot the third sentence in my post. You know, the one which follows-up and directly relates to the first sentence.

OhEssYouCowboys on July 1, 2008 at 1:40 PM

I choose to comment on that part of what you said.

Isn’t anything anti-Christian a feather in the Democratic cap? Why is this such a big deal?

Ya know, sometimes when I’m feeling charitable, I listen patiently to atheist bullsh*t, and then along comes a story like this, which bears out to a T what the ancient prophets testified.

For centuries, prophets said there was a core defect in human nature, (which Catholics call original sin); it has characteristic appearances, like obsession with death, worship of earth forces, etc; and we’re powerless to fix ourselves of it, so we require the grace of God.

Enlightened libs came along in the 18th century and promised that progress was on the way; they would fix human nature through collective education, psychology, sociology, etc., etc. It would be a piece of cake!

Hundreds of years later, liberals prove that they are unable to perfect themselves, let alone the human race.

I’ll stick with the anthropology of Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, etc. etc.!

jeff_from_mpls on July 1, 2008 at 1:49 PM

This obviously does not represent North Carolina Democrats

I ain’t seeing the obviousness in it. I personally can’t see how anyone can be a Democrat in today’s day and age unless they are satanic torture perverts. The Democrat “true self” is rarely exposed so publicly though, so this might be one of those rare instances where we can gain some understanding on what makes a Democrat tick.

Buddahpundit on July 1, 2008 at 1:54 PM

Durham–isn’t that where a Democrat prosecutor falsely accused three innocent young men of rape? Anyone notice a coincidence here?

Steve Z on July 1, 2008 at 1:55 PM

Satan the great deceiver, that’s why he loves Democrats. No moral compunction to ever tell the truth.

kirkill on July 1, 2008 at 1:55 PM

This strangle hold alliance of bobama dope hopes include his black woman delegate in Colorado who telephoned government officials with her lies to set the gross CPS wheels into commotion in Eldorado. What a party! They are stuck on stupid, abusing everyone.

They were just in the wrong place - if this had been San Francisco, no one would have noticed. Except they might have been invited to the Mayor’s parties.

Lenin said “Destroy the family, and the society will collapse.” Look at what has happened, in America, since the 60s:

1. No-fault divorce.

2. Adultery is portrayed as being irrelevant. And, sometimes, even healthy for the marital relationship.

3. Abortion. The extermination of tens of millions of children, by their own mothers.

4. Homosexual marriage.

The family collapses. The children become irrelevant. The children become wards of the State. The State will then nurture and raise the children. Socialism becomes all that the children know.

All of these are directly related to the Socialist desire to eliminate God from the public forum, and from the public schools. That is how they seek to destroy the family.

When God is eliminated from the minds of the people, the family is destroyed. When God is eliminated, and the family is destroyed - the people will serve the State. The people will serve, fear and worship the State.

The Socialists of the 60s knew exactly what they were doing.

OhEssYouCowboys on July 1, 2008 at 2:16 PM

I agree with Hawaii, but come to think of it, only Demos defend perverts–because, (you must know by now), perverts are victims too. We must make the world safe for ALL victims to come out of their closet of perversion and even criminal activity so that they can get help.
I know several people who agree with this. They all are far lefty ‘Goddess worshippers’; one described herself as a liberal in 2004.

Well said. I tried to explain what was happening in the California public schools (the gay lobby has succeeded in removing all mention of mother and father in textbooks, any kid ‘feeling gay’ could use the other restroom, new classes for educational/indoctrination purposes, etc), to my step mother who told me what I was saying was “BS”.
No one can indoctrinate straight kids to homosexuality and there is no threat to American tradition and the family. Ignorance runs deep in the heartland of Ohio.

Christine on July 1, 2008 at 2:45 PM

I forgot to say that I was deemed intolerant by my step mom because i was living in California and watching FNC. When I told her that i got my info from local news, she said that that was FNC. Needless to say, i won’t try to enlighten her again.

Christine on July 1, 2008 at 2:49 PM

Ed, the local fishwrap, the Charlotte Observer does note that Johnson is a Democrat activist. I note that maybe Sen. Messiah Barack could use these two deviants for “religious outreach”. What do you think?

righty64 on July 1, 2008 at 2:54 PM

Just trying out for that Super Delegate designation. The competition has been extremely tough this year and it would seem half of the Dem convention will be delegates and the other half parole officers making sure their clients don’t violate the terms of their bail.
And we aren’t even talking about the demonstrators.

Just A Grunt on July 1, 2008 at 3:29 PM

Ed, I agree with your point, especially the part about the lede’s missing affiliation; had it been a Republican party official it would have led, “One of them is a well-known Republican political activist.” But the article does state that Ms. Johnson resigned her post with the Democratic Party; which post one would assume the party fills solely with Democratic party members. Near the end of the article, yes, but it is there. Just trying to be fair.

Jens on July 1, 2008 at 3:40 PM

They must be victims. I have every confidence that the MSM is hard at work ferreting out the of what for us.

Must. Patiently. Wait.

shaken on July 1, 2008 at 3:41 PM

In a effort to redress past wrongs Democrats are now shackling white people.

snaggletoothie on July 1, 2008 at 3:57 PM

jukin on July 1, 2008 at 4:48 PM

The Durham People’s Alliance didn’t form as a result of the lacrosse case. The PA has been Durham’s MoveOn since long before MoveOn was even a gleam in any “progressive”’s eye. Sort of MoveOn + Code Pink + Worker’s World Party + all the other usual suspects.

eeyore on July 1, 2008 at 4:49 PM

You have to put yourself in Michelle’s shoes… if the press printed this story (w/ the party affiliation), she would have a hard time explaining this to the children. If they leave out the party affiliation, it just makes for a safe assumption it’s got to be a cracker republican who come from a small town, that cling to their religion and guns. If the press starts showing a “D”, then the template doesn’t fit no mo.

Sergei on July 1, 2008 at 4:58 PM

“Investigators say Johnson is involved in a Satanic cult..”

That is not a very nice way to characterise the Democratic Party.

aengus on July 1, 2008 at 6:34 PM

Name that party? Sure, the Democratic Party as mentioned at the beginning of the piece. Not much going on today for you, Ed?

DanKenton on July 1, 2008 at 7:27 PM

“Certainly we wish her the best during this trying time.” ~Sen. Floyd Kissack (D-Durham County)

What’s this supposed to mean? Does it mean, “May justice be done?” Nope. How about, “I hope the truth be found and told?” Um, no. Does anyone else smell what this guy is stepping in here? Apparently this man does not either A) understand the gravity of the charges, or B) have any real sense of good and evil.
In his eyes, and those of most moral relativists, these things are merely “unfortunate” or “disappointing” events, solely because it’s an inconvenience to either them or their organization, and nothing more.
This, ladies and gentlemen, is what is known as the “Death of Satan,” which is ironic in and of itself given the circumstances.

Send_Me on July 1, 2008 at 7:53 PM

Man, if this doesn’t take the cake, I don’t know what does. It’s almost poetic.
