Heh: McCain accuses Obama and Clark of … distracting from the real issues

Via the RNC. The politically calculated outrage in situations like these makes my skin crawl, but McCain tossing Obama’s all-purpose subject-changer back in his face is irresistible. You know, devaluing people’s military service doesn’t help Michelle Obama’s kids.
As a counterpoint to these sober, serious remarks about sticking to the issues that matter, here’s what Team Maverick released over the weekend. Can’t knock ‘em for mocking the hubris and idiocy of Obama’s presidential seal, especially with a touch as light as this, and I like the dig at the cult of personality surrounding St. Barack that would have him on Mt. Rushmore before he even assumes office, but this ain’t exactly policy nuts and bolts.

Hahahahahahahahaha
McCain refused to take the bait. Brilliant!

At this point, Sen. McCain has to use every opportunity to attack the aura of infallibility the media has placed around Sen. Obama. I don’t care if it’s small potatoes as long as it’s accurate and keeps the other side on defense. God knows the DNC has been willing to dig up every silly piece of nonsense to toss at Sen. McCain or in a pinch - twist something to suit their purposes.
With Sen. Obama’s money machine cranking up, time is not on our side. Serious policy differences should be the first priority, but small stuff shouldn’t be ignored either.

Can we get back to the meme about McCain not knowing the price of gas or whether his aunt owes property taxes in La Jolla?
You know–the real issues.
JammieWearingFool on June 30, 2008 at 3:40 PM
*snork* wha…? What? Oh, sorry. Fell asleep during that McCain press conference. That was the most boringly delivered zinger ever.

More change: it’s now ok for a non-veteran to pay a former general to dismiss the service of a fellow officer who was a POW. Stay classy, Wes.

Years ago, there was an All in the Family episode where Archie has to be nice, and hold his tongue, because Edith is going through the change–something totally out of character for him to do.
He manages to do so for most of the half-hour, but nothing he says or does mollifies Edith. Finally, he blows his top, and she smiles.
I’d like to see a little more fire too.

The notion that military experience should be a pre-condition or even advantage to being commander-in-chief died on Novemeber 3, 2004.
ynot4tony2 on June 30, 2008 at 3:44 PM
John McCain needs to understand he is not in a street fight, he is in a Thermo Nuclear War!
Seven Percent Solution on June 30, 2008 at 3:45 PM
That ad is idiotic. But Obama’s an arrogant ass so you have to laugh at him.

I suspect that the McCain camp believes as I do, that these attacks are designed to get McCain to respond angrily and have a Howard Dean moment, showing that he is temperamentally unfit to be President. McCain didn’t give them what they wanted. He was intentionally boring.
rockmom on June 30, 2008 at 4:03 PM
Well, Hillary did slam Barack Obama’s “Change” you can Xerox.
wise_man on June 30, 2008 at 4:05 PM
Funny how things have changed so much with the Dems since 2004, when military service in Vietnam was the only qualification for a President.

The two issues that matter the most are:
Mexican invasion of the U.S. with both candidates siding with the interests of the anti-American plantation owners and against America.
Our pathetic dependence on foreigners for energy, and with it our economy, with both candidates being more interested in Al Gore’s Apolitical Global Warming and McCain wanting “Cap and Trade” and to protect the

Personally, I think McCain looked personally hurt by Clarkes statements. He stayed above it, which was the point.
Keith_Indy on June 30, 2008 at 4:19 PM
That cloud of mediocrity may or may not have been intentional but it’s hard to factor out a McCain win in November when he doesn’t even excite his own supporters. The man’s ancient already, he needs to prove that the role of the VP isn’t going to be carrying a mirror around to prove the President is still respiring!!!! Put another way, Obama’s is charismatic. McCain for his part could hardly be called “Mr. Personality” unless old cranky liberal is considered a personality.
highhopes on June 30, 2008 at 4:19 PM
Give me a break! This was decidedly NOT a moment for McCain to get excited and try to excite his supporters. It was a moment for him to appear calm, steady, and *sorrowful* that the Obama campaign has descended to the depths of character assassination that it has. If you can’t understand that, I can’t help you.
He already knows he isn’t going to beat Barack Obama on charisma. Why do you think he should try?
rockmom on June 30, 2008 at 4:25 PM
McCain is not fit to be POTUS. His failure to support our rule of law on immigration is treasonous at best. He wants amnesty for all immigration criminals and is too ignorant to see the long term negitive effects.
saiga on June 30, 2008 at 4:27 PM
Well, that ‘famous’, ‘unhinged’ McCain temper is sure under control, I’m thinking, hard as they’re trying to provoke an explosion.
That calls for a ::snicker::.
tree hugging sister on June 30, 2008 at 4:52 PM
McCain should have said something like, “I think it was a bit unfair of General Clark to bring this up since it points out how Senator Obama has no corresponding military experience. I’ve been trying to avoid such comparisons myself, out of deference to my opponent. But if you’d like to ask me any questions you’d like about my service or my time as a POW, feel free to do so. I’ve been very open about my record and plan to continue to be.”
aero on June 30, 2008 at 4:56 PM
You can see the angry from that cranky old man…you didn’t see it? Neither did I…
right2bright on June 30, 2008 at 4:56 PM
Well thats the old Billy Jeff answer “It never fed a hungry child.” Good Lord McCain.
Big Orange on June 30, 2008 at 5:34 PM
Change you can Photoshop? Hilarious. Remember when Hillary said that he isn’t change you believe it, it’s change you can Xerox?
jtorres138 on June 30, 2008 at 5:50 PM
I agree, you could see the dismay and anger in his eyes.
Squid Shark on June 30, 2008 at 5:59 PM
Bob Dole ran a stronger campaign. And that’s not saying much.
By the way, why hasn’t Juan McCain and Obama resigned their senate seats as Dole did (after democraps urged him to do so)?
Zorro on June 30, 2008 at 6:25 PM
I love that he specifically used the term “surrogates.” This has been a pattern since Harkin, probably before. I have no doubt personally that it’s a coordinated effort to turn McCain’s strengths into weaknesses in the old Begala-Carville mode.
Obama’s not bringing us a new kind of politics; this, if anything, is a few steps backward.
DrSteve on June 30, 2008 at 6:37 PM
Hey, Senator McCain! Fred! was a better candidate that you, and you see where a lack of “fire in the belly” got him.
You can respond strongly without looking like you’ve “lost it.”
“Give ‘em hell, Harry.”
Truman inherited a war. Senator, you will, too. Show some.
davidk on June 30, 2008 at 7:43 PM
Clark’s remark is an obvious no brainer. He has nothing to apologize for. He hasn’t diminished anything no matter what OMFG-I-m-so-offended-and-victimized-Allah wants us to believe.
Obama’s seal on the other hand is insane. I do think it has to do with his cult of personality. I don’t know if this McCain’s ad is the best response, but it’s not bad and it’s a legitimate issue to raise.
freevillage on July 1, 2008 at 2:07 AM
Obama has the youth vote, which normally means the other guy wins.
mylegsareswollen on July 1, 2008 at 4:28 AM
People really need to see McCain in person before dissing his charisma. The very small snippets you see on tv aren’t the McCain I saw in Indianapolis in February. I think when you see him in a live, town hall setting, you’ll see that not only is he engaging, he can think on his feet, and without scripts.
