I am going to have to wholeheartedly disagree. American reality TV /= Japanase game shows!! The day I leave my whiny co-workers to come home to watch whiny mini-celebs preen is the day I enjoy eating my own barf. Japanese game shows are ridiculously funny and far removed from reality. Thank God too… if I want to watch reality, I’ll turn off the TV.

Japanese game shows have owned American game shows for a couple of decades at least. I lived in Japan in 1989 and loved watching them. The show “MXC” is a rerun of just one of the shows that I watched back then.

True enough- That show worked for a couple of reasons. The goofy dubbed commentary, almost impossibly silly contests, and it was in small, manageable doses of 1/2 hour each. I guess there is supposed to be an American version of this on air shortly (was it “I Survived A Japanese Game Show”? I thought it was called something else- eh, no matter), but I’m gonna bet it’ll be pretty lame compared to MXC.

It reminds me of some of the dreams I’ve had.

Running and running but just staying in one place, never moving forward.

Then I try to look behind me to see what is chasing me and I awake screaming, only to realize that it was only a horrible dream.

Then I remember that it was a “Obama monster” chasing after all of us.

I think I’ll never fall asleep again.

The whole 1st episode is on the ABS website. Unfortunately it is in a reality show format, meaning that you have to suffer through watching the most insufferable group of people the show could find. I suggest just skipping to the contests.
