McCain has a wide opening on energy policy, and if properly exploited, will trump Obama’s current edge on economic issues..

He has it right, a balanced approach, do everything..

That's what you think...but we know the Japanese have been planning this for decades...planting hydrogen bombs in every garage.
On some Dec. day, the secret bomb attack will be devastating, and Japan will rule the U.S., just like they tried 60+ years ago.
You can look at their squinty little eyes in see the evil.

hydrogen + the slightest amount of oxygen becomes an explosive mixture which can be set off by light. Can you imagine a country full of these car bombs? Imagine a downtown parking garage ...

Water vapor is the BIGGEST GREENHOUSE GAS BY FAR!!!2:52 PM

Lordie, where to begin with you?

Honda rolls out fuel cell car
The FCX Clarity, which runs on hydrogen and electricity, emits only water and none of the noxious fumes believed to induce global warming. It is also two times more energy efficient than a gas-electric hybrid and three times that of a standard gasoline-powered car, the company says.

Japan's third biggest automaker expects to lease out a "few dozen" units this year and about 200 units within three years. In California, a three-year lease will run $600 a month, which includes maintenance and collision coverage.

These cars will not be rolling bombs on the highway, despite your view that this vehicle of 2008 will be using the same technology as the Hindenberg of 1937.

And adding drops of water from the tailpipe of a hydrogen vehicle will not contribute to carbon emissions, which is what the environmentalist wackos are all up in arms about.

Just call me very skeptical.

TexasJew on June 27, 2008 at 12:55 PM

That's the cynic I like.
I do have a problem with McCain saying about Calif. drilling, leave it up to the state to decide (knowing how the state is being led), and then saying don't let the state decide in Alaska's case.
These are questions that need to be resolved, asked, and over time they will be. The problem is, if not McCain, then Obama, and that means Obama for 8 years, McCain is 4 years.

...and by the way, Hydrogen + Oxygen -> Water!

Water vapor is the BIGGEST GREENHOUSE GAS BY FAR!!! It is over 3000 times as plentiful as CO2 in the atmosphere, and has a direct and provable impact on weather (unlike CO2, where its impact is all unproven theory and speculation).

If the Eco's are so freaked out by "greenhouse gas," why are they pushing hydrogen cars, whose exhaust is 100% greenhouse gas?

An easy and time-tested solution:
Climate constantly changes: Successful species adapt to it! So relax and enjoy it!!

We can take energy from nuke plants to manufacture hydrogen for cars, instead of using electricity from coal.
Paul-Cincy on June 27, 2008 at 12:30 PM

Hydrogen is another science-challenged "eco-wacko" dead end. The problem with carrying hydrogen around is that hydrogen + the slightest amount of oxygen becomes an explosive mixture which can be set off by light. Can you imagine a country full of these car bombs? Imagine a downtown parking garage where one of the H-cars springs a leak and takes out half of downtown!! They would make wartime Baghdad look like a safety zone!! Such ill-considered suggestions are why it is always a serious mistake to let politicians pick technology winners and losers.

If you want to store energy cleanly and efficiently, use nuclear to convert coal to gasoline + the thousands of oil byproducts that we use.

This ad needs more specifics. Mention the 45 nuclear plants--safe, clean, electricity. Mention developing shale oil in the Rockies, which could provide 150 years' worth of America's needs.

Another idea for an ad: Right now, when you fill up your tank (show a gas station with high prices), you pay your hard-earned money to this man (show image of a raving Hugo Chavez) and these men (show images of Saudi princes in a palace). John McCain prefers that you spend less money to pay this man (show a worker on an offshore oil rig) and these men (show workers in hard-hats at a refinery) for your oil, right here in America. American oil money for American workers. Yes we can.

This might get the blue-collar crowd on board with drilling here in America--more jobs for them!

I see this as the only viable situation for driving hydrogen cars that replace our existing fossil fuel vehicles. Building clean burning coal pants is a start in the better direction. Wind, wave(tide) and solar can produce some electricity at current technology, but to realistically account for all of the electricity to charge a battery, or separate hydrogen and oxygen from water, you need a lot of electricity.

I was watching a program on a recent aircraft carrier and they mentioned that for the ship's nuclear reactor that powers the entire operations(except for the aviation fuel), it will only have to be refueled once in its operational lifetime. If we begin to construct the power plants now, then in the decade or whatever it takes for them to come on line, we will have more electricity for our country. Of course we also need to open the long delayed nuclear waste facility to store the spent fuel, but this is something that needs to be done.

Why, when someone begins I was a “xyz” supporter, I know BS like this will follow?
Then the “I am sure John McCain is a good man - but…”, he is unstable, unhinged?
Yeah, a real long term McCain supporter…
“Did I ever tell you how I used to be an Obama supporter? I was positive he was for change, but then….”
Oh jake-the-goose, what do we do with people like you…I don’t know whether to be angry because you think we are so stupid, or sorry for you because you are so pathetic…
*
Every day on every talk show someone like you calls in…”I voted republican my whole life, and my whole family did too, but this McCain, why he is unhinged, absolutely nuts, he is scary, I just can’t for the first time in my life, vote Republican”…and who did you vote for in the last election…I voted for Gore, couldn’t stand that Bush, he is unhinged, absolutely nuts, but that was the first time I ever…”

No - but I was dumb enough to support Perot.

I appreciate there are a lot of people who see John McCain as our best hope - you are correct - but he is still a NUT.

Give me a break - he does not want to drill in ANWAR ? !!!!

Screw the Caribou - that alone is evidence that he's an idiot.

I find it interesting that the ad doesn’t make any mention of the Lexington Project, not even in the graphics. They should be making that a brand name

So true Ed. The ad is short and sweet and makes the point. You could say what McCain said in 10,000, or 100 words, and in this case, 100 is better. If McCain gets the message out about Project Lexington, to the point that the two words “Project Lexington” equate to a 10,000 word discussion, that will help him greatly.

I would suggest that they run this fine ad, but I would challenge them to do a new voice over, incorporating the words “Project Lexington” more than once, and adding a graphic for the web site.

McCain is determined to own this issue (energy,) and I’m thrilled because I knew last year that the issue for this election would not be healthcare, nor Iraq, but in fact energy. He’s 100% on the mark here.

Gilda on June 27, 2008 at 12:28 PM
Let me tell you -
You're not going to win this battle by taxing it.
Or not drilling in ANWR. Ever.
Or going squishy on windfall profits.
Or telling states like California that they can unilaterally prevent exploration in the deep offshore but prevent Aaska from having its massive oilfields opened up.
Or by telling oil companies that they should invest
in "alternative energy" crap instead of being .. oil companies.
I'm in the energy business and have seen McCain in action on this.
Just call me very skeptical.

Better than the last ad, but for me:

1. Remove the stupid solar cells. You can coat a whole roof with them for $30,000.00 and not get enough energy to power a toaster - even when the sun is shining brightly. The physics of solar cells says you're not going to get much better, but even if you COULD double their output, this would be a poor, inefficient, and high-pollution way (remember, these cells have to be manufactured) to generate energy. And by the way, the sun degrades the solar cells - so you'll be replacing them frequently and you always will be paying 4.5 times as much for electricity as everyone else.

2. Add coal. Get real: coal is our major resource, and it can be converted into gas or oil. We have to use it.

3. Add nuclear. This is the only major way you can significantly reduce industrial demand for gas quickly and reduce heating costs for homes. It's the safest form of energy production by far, and you can recycle nuclear fuel by repealing the stupid Congressional restrictions which say we can't, which eliminates the waste problem.

4. Remove the stupid windmills. They consume way too much in natural resources for the puny and unreliable power they produce. Costs are understated, as the advocates fail to count the additional power lines, metering, and replacement costs (It's just a matter of time until a hurricane, tornado, or major hailstorm wipes out a wind farm).

Where's McCain's "Let's build 50 nuclear plants" idea? It should be in the ad. Energy is fungible. We can take energy from nuke plants to manufacture hydrogen for cars, instead of using electricity from coal. That should placate the global warming nuts. Of course it won't, but it should.

You're on a roll today. Go get 'em!

This is a good ad, and a winning issue for McCain. We rose to conquer the Moon, we can rise to conquer the energy dilemma. Americans don't cower in the face of challenge. We fight back and win. (Except the Paulbots and Obamatons. They just whine from the sidelines about their personal superiority.)

You are cool, intelligent, but the constant banging on the anti-McCain symbols gives me a head-ache.
Nobody in this race is as bad as you make him out to be. This was a good ad, not meant to resolve all of the issues, but a good ad to move people to his point of view. You don't have to like someone to honestly evaluate one of his actions.
There was that one guy who hated Fred, constantly ragging on him, Fred's wife, Fred's red truck, Fred's kids, Fred's history, Fred's this or that...soon the guy became a joke, when he posted you could almost see the eyes roll, and the eagerness to egg him on or make fun of him. Most of the time he was so consumed with hate, he never saw how much ridicule he was getting, how little people thought of him, how much he embarrassed himself with his hatred (he seldom posts now, he had to move on).
You are so much brighter, and more intelligent then that other poster...don't become him.
