Rapper chants “Obama or Die” at the BET Awards Update: Video added

posted at 10:48 am on June 25, 2008 by Ed Morrissey
Share on Facebook | regular view

Sean “Diddy” Combs led the way for the BET Awards to become a Barack Obama rally by reprising and amending his 2004 motto.  Instead of “Vote or Die”, Combs chanted “Obama or Die”, as other entertainers also took turns issuing endorsements for Obama in the upcoming presidential race — albeit in slightly less existential terms (via Jim Geraghty):

“If we all register and vote, we will have the first black president in the history of America,” Sean “Diddy” Combs told the crowd Tuesday at the Shrine Auditorium before chanting “Obama or Die” – a declarative remix of his neutral “Vote or Die” motto from the 2004 presidential election, when he attempted to boost the youth vote.

Uh, excuse me?  “Obama or Die”?  That can be taken in two different ways.  The first is that “Diddy” thinks that a loss by Obama would mean the death of African-Americans in the US, or alternately, that Diddy plans on killing people if Obama doesn’t win.  Either way, it’s more than a little extreme, and a great example of how the Messiah complex has really taken root among Obama’s base.

As always, the fine folks at South Park anticipated this all the way back to the 2004 cycle.  This is definitely not safe for work, but it’s hilarious.  And for those who feel less than thrilled about the choices they have in November, the intro is not to be missed:

Update: Breitbart has the video:

Seriously!

My prediction: Your going to see black turn out like never before and 95% of them will vote Obama.

bnelson44 on June 25, 2008 at 10:57 AM

Given the rousing success of his “Vote or Die” campaign (see also: colossal failure), I wouldn’t be too worried about this.

Unless, you know, he actually means to kill us.

Dusty on June 25, 2008 at 10:59 AM

I need South Park back on the air quick! Trey Parker and Matt Stone get it most than any other.
Diddy has got to be one of the most annoying people in the entertainment industry. So he fits right in. A vote against Obama is death? Who does he think he is? He makes me disdain an Obama presidency even more. Think about Jay-Z and Diddy in the White House. God help us.

jencab on June 25, 2008 at 11:00 AM

If we see much more of this type of rhetoric from Obama supporters, and while Obama gets 95% of the black vote, he’ll be lucky to get 10% from any other demographic.

The more P. Diddy talks, the happier I get.
That little phrase ought to make a heck of a 527 commercial.

“If we all register and vote, we will have the first black president in the history of America,”

Another single-issue voter for Obama. Not a policy issue though, racist voting is more a psychological “issue”.

Either way, it’s more than a little extreme, and a great example of how the Messiah complex has really taken root among Obama’s base.

Possibly. But it’s also a great example of the stupidity that is Combs. The slogan didn’t make sense when it was “Vote or Die” and it really doesn’t make sense now.

Goodness this is horrendous. Diddy should take a long walk off a short pier.

Because’s that’s our goal, to get a black president in the office. If one of McCain’s supporters said “I’m trying to get the white guy elected”, all hell would break loose. This is such a sham of democracy, political opinion, and lessons for America’s youth.

The MSM will laugh it off with “oh he’s so funny always wearing those glasses”. Another insight might be something like “who did you expect him to vote for? I mean, he’s black!”

Obama’s comment the other day in Jacksonville “did I mention he’s black” is playing on white guilt. I hope the American people can see through this empty suit, race-baiting, car salesman.

Once you provoke her, rattling of her tail
Never begins it, never, but once engaged…
Never surrenders, showing the fangs of rage

To secure peace is to prepare for war
So be it
Settle the score
Touch me again for the words that youll hear evermore…

Don’t tread on me

Love it or live it, she with the deadly bite
Quick is the blue tongue, forked as lighting strike
Shining with brightness, always on surveillance
The eyes, they never close, emblem of vigilance

Don’t tread on me

Touch me again for the words that youll hear evermore…

alphie,

I didn’t know Bush was solely responsible for the national debt.

Anyway, was Puff Daddy volunteering for punitive taxation to pay down national debt? I thought he said he favored Obama because he wanted to see a “black president”, and my problem with him is that he’s making a decision based upon the race of the candidate.

Liberals used to claim to be against that sort of thing.

There’s not a Democrat in Congress who could run a lemonade stand properly, much less have any understanding whatsoever, regarding how to improve our national economy.

A Congress full of Irish Setters would have a better chance of stimulating the economy, than the current collection of corrupt moron Democrats would.

How bad can the economy be when people are willing to wait in line for a video game (Nintendo Wii) that costs $300? And frankly I don’t care that black people are excited about a viable black presidential candidate. I think about my parents when John Kennedy ran for president; they were young, fairly new to DC and they loved Kennedy because he was Catholic. My dad had a portrait of him hanging in his office well through the 80’s – after my dad had become a Reagan supporter, so I don’t really blame black people for being excited. Does it mean he’s the best candidate? No. But most people don’t understand economics or the issues – unfortunately they vote on emotion and always have.

Obamanites will drive a wedge in the racial conciliation that has evolved since 1965. Now the question has arose questioning whether the Obama birth certificate, that has proven to be a forgery, indicates he is not an American citizen. Kind of like Kerry having putting himself in for the Silver Star and three Purple Hearts, without drawing a drop of blood, to this day refusing to release his military records. When a presidential candidate refuses to present his birth certificate or military records, he is hiding something that is detrimental in his life.
