Wishing Rush dead?

The Corner notes a “disgraceful” entry from the Kansas City Star’s editorial cartoonist today, one which strongly hints that Lee Judge wants to see Rush Limbaugh dead. Take a look at this sophomoric “tribute” to Tim Russert:

In its defense, the Star has this on Judge’s blog and notes that readers may find these unpublished cartoons “offensive”. Good editorial cartooning usually offends someone, although normally the offense touches on policies, ideology, or peccadilloes. It usually doesn’t find breathing offensive, not even for murderous tyrants.
Yesterday, Christopher Hitchens warned about the coming sainthood of his friend, Tim Russert. He mourned Russert’s loss but didn’t believe, as some did, that journalism died with him. While he believed that Russert had made his mark in political journalism, Hitchens wrote that Meet the Press would soldier on without him and that the world would keep revolving in the same manner it has for eons, rainbows and all.
This is the ugly flip side of the media anointing that has taken place with Russert’s death. Now, instead of just beatifying Russert, Judge crudely suggests that God made a mistake in not smiting Rush instead of Russ. (Maybe it was a clerical error? A typo on the scroll?) And why does Judge find Rush so offensive that he casts him as the beneficiary of a whimsical Supreme Being? Because Rush offers his opinions to millions who agree with him, while Judge produces badly drawn cartoons that attract …. well, dozens! He can’t even draw well enough to distinguish Russert from Limbaugh, having to rely on labels to identify his characters instead.
One does not have to agree with Russert to mourn his passing and note that it is a tremendous loss for political journalism. One also does not have to agree with Rush to understand that he has built his audience honestly, through hard work and free speech, in maybe the only nation where this could even be possible. For those who don’t understand that, wishing death on one’s political opponents is the only reaction open to them, I suppose, and for that they should be pitied — and then ignored.

Is that a Cross on Rush’s forehead?

Conservatives are fair game in this liberal climate of hate.
Just don’t criticize The Messiah or Michelle Obama and all will be well in the world.
JammieWearingFool on June 24, 2008 at 9:52 AM
Heh. Nice one pointing that out. Isn’t the point of political cartoons to be that we can identify the people? Why not just draw stick figures and label them “Russert” and “Limbaugh”? It would have the same effect.
jimmy the notable on June 24, 2008 at 9:52 AM
Awww, but he has his 15 minutes of fame…like the girls barring their breasts on those videos, these immature media seekers, living is obscurity become desperate for attention. Like the New Orleans Mardi Gras, his cartoon is worth a few beads.
right2bright on June 24, 2008 at 9:52 AM
“It would have the same effect.”… and it would better exemplify the intellectual depth of the cartoonist involved.
jimmy the notable on June 24, 2008 at 9:53 AM
This dimwit hack cartoonist’s “work” could not hold a candle to the brilliant work of cartoonist Mike Peters. Looks like talent is sadly lacking at the Kansas City Star.
pilamaye on June 24, 2008 at 9:53 AM
It wouldn’t take much imagination to add a cartoon of Lee Judge himself in a third panel and write “still drawing” under it.
It’s not even particularly clever. That’s really what makes it suck.
(HEY RUSH. I’M FREE THIS WEEKEND IF YOU WANT ME TO COME OVER.)
JiangxiDad on June 24, 2008 at 9:54 AM
I’m sure Tim Russert wouldn’t think too highly of this cartoon.

Once again Liberals miss no opportunity to prove the research right:
Don’t listen to the liberals – Right-wingers really are nicer people, latest research shows
A must read if you haven’t already.
TheBigOldDog on June 24, 2008 at 9:55 AM
Is it just me, or does Judge’s Rush look more like Dan Hedaya?
Ed Morrissey on June 24, 2008 at 9:57 AM
But first, fired from their job in the media.
And I’ll say it again. The only reason we have any rigourous political debated in this country is because of Rush. The Republicans and the beltway conservatives media rolled over on making any real effort a long time ago.
BigD on June 24, 2008 at 9:57 AM
More right-wing hate.
Akzed on June 24, 2008 at 9:58 AM
I’m outrageously outraged.
Come on. Is this post worthy? Really?
lorien1973 on June 24, 2008 at 10:00 AM
Looks like it’s supposed to be a furrowed brow. Not that you can really tell.
The sign of a really, REALLY crappy caricaturist is the need to write across the character’s body who s/he’s supposed to be in order for anyone to be able to identify them. What grade is this guy in? Leave the drawing to those of us with talent, kid.
Spanglemaker on June 24, 2008 at 10:02 AM
Honestly, looking over the cartoon a number of times, I get more of a sense of the implication that Russert should still be broadcasting rather than that Rush should be dead. Seems a bit overblown to me.
MadisonConservative on June 24, 2008 at 10:06 AM
Tim Russert alienated himself from Conservatives during his last years, while his liberal friends alienated him more after his death – from all who watched media’s coverage about him (them).

Wow! If thats what passes for artistic talent, I’m in the wrong business.
I know TV “meteorolgists” continue to get paid no matter how inaccurate the weather reports are, but come on…
Give me a pre-school coloring contest, please!
singlemalt_18 on June 24, 2008 at 10:09 AM
Wait a tick,lets use the Liberal’s
thinking,isn’t this hate speech!
And,in another land,far far away,and
unfortunately not far enough, cartoonists
can loose their heads over cartoon’s like
these!
And I have to admit, this cartoon is rather
pethetic, reminds me of the hanging stick
figure that Mini-me sent across the table to
Dr.Evils son in the Austin Powers movie!
canopfor on June 24, 2008 at 10:09 AM
Oh that’s bad. If someone like Mike Peters had drawn this, we’d know who the guys were without having to label them.
It’s odd – when a lefty dies most of the time the right says: “well, I didn’t agree with him, but may he rest in peace” When a righty dies, most of the times the left says: “good, I’m glad that *&$# is gone. May his soul rot in hell (not that I believe in hell, you understand)”
Ellen on June 24, 2008 at 10:12 AM
eh, move on. Not worth the internet ink to type about.
johnnyU on June 24, 2008 at 10:12 AM
I really don’t care what Christopher Hitchens has to say. Why is this man relevant in any way in the world of newsworthy politics?
Vaporman87 on June 24, 2008 at 10:14 AM
A more apt comparison to the anti-Russert would be MSNBC’s own beloved Keith Olbermann.
Except that lil’ Keith’s brain died decades ago, while his mouth keeps flapping.
NoDonkey on June 24, 2008 at 10:14 AM
The insinuation is that if it was a “normal” way rather then “mysterious” way, it would be reversed.
Not much of statement if it meant only that Tim should be alive, why include Rush (the hated conservative) then? Rush isn’t even on TV, why not use Olby or any other TV pundit. if it didn’t mean what ALL of us (except you)know it meant.
right2bright on June 24, 2008 at 10:15 AM
I’ll do my sketch of a guy in big shoulder padded suit,.. feminine glasses, open jaw spewing out worst things in the world, and slick parted hair and call him Keith Olberman .. put him in the Rush side of the frame..
but that would be hateful and mean and bitter

Everything’s full of hate in Kansas City.
mymanpotsandpans on June 24, 2008 at 10:34 AM
While talent is lacking, I would say so is the judgement of the Kansas City Star and its editors by allowing a hack like Lee to even publish this trash. Sadly, this is just a small portion of the vile transgressions we will see in the months ahead. Also, expect the folks over a Kos to put this in their “trophy case”.
Rovin on June 24, 2008 at 10:35 AM
A Kos “trophy case”? Imagine what would be in there . . .
Kos’ first training-bra and the premium mascara he uses prior to his TV spots should get top billing.

1. Can someone find me an example of official policy for either conservatives or followers of Christ where death was wished upon those who simply disagreed with them?
2. Can someone find me an example of official policy for either liberals or atheists where death was wished upon those who simply disagreed with them?
Thanks.

Because Rush has “Talent on loan from God”, and this cartoonist has “talent the same since Kindergarten”.
kirkill on June 24, 2008 at 10:40 AM
Yep, and that’s the point all these people are missing. Many of these “journalists” are going overboard with their Russert coverage because it’s one of their own, and they are the most important people on the planet.
Others are going with it because they just don’t want to feel left out and/or they want to beat their competition with their fawning coverage.
It’s obvious that Russert was more highly regarded than your average “journalist”, but they are so damn stupid that they don’t have a frikkin’ clue why. It’s because he wasn’t a complete partisan hack. He wasn’t a petty, clueless talking head like many of these morons who are making fools of themselves trying to honor him. Russert spent more time actually working than sitting in front of a mirror like the prima donnas who babble into a camera.

I think a 10-year old could do better. Oh well, guess it’s just a sign on the print media’s back….we’ll take anyone as long as they hate America.
geminicontender on June 24, 2008 at 10:54 AM
Nice article. We on the Right have always known this to be true, but the Left, in their oh so superior minds, will never get it.
Tony737 on June 24, 2008 at 11:01 AM
At least Rush would ask some actually probing questions.
99+% of Russert’s were whiffleballs whenever a lib was on.
TexasJew on June 24, 2008 at 11:04 AM
It actually looks to me like the face on Rush is someone HANGING by the neck.
Someone wrote: The best way to honor Russert..is to ACT LIKE HIM. This guy failed.

JiangxiDad, you got it.

Can you feel the heat from the left’s “love and tolerance” fire?
jukin on June 24, 2008 at 11:08 AM
This guy is such a poor artist that I first thought Russer and Rush were Terrence and Phillip of South Park!
radjah shelduck on June 24, 2008 at 11:11 AM
If that scum-sucking, poor excuse of a “cartoonist” had done his homework, he would have found out that both Russert and Rush treated each other rather well. In fact, Russert was interviewed by Rush on his radio program a couple of years ago.
But again, what else can you expect from a bastard spawn of Ted Rall?
newton on June 24, 2008 at 11:11 AM
I don’t remember too many of the over the top mourners coming to Russert’s defense when hillary went after him. Anyone have any clips of the bereaved commenting on Russert’s questions?
peacenprosperity on June 24, 2008 at 11:18 AM
I don’t know about conservative, but here are some liberals that do want to destroy…
Earth First
Weatherman (still be kept alive by Ayers and his wife)
New Black Panther Party
SDS
Code Pink
ELF
ALF
ANSWER
National Youth and Student Peace Coalition
Most any “anti-war” group…they all have this at their rally’s “We support our troops when they shoot their officers”
All of these above groups are affiliated with communist and marxist groups. Even you would agree that the radical Communists and Marxists would love to kill or destroy anyone standing in the way of their life.

Thanks for asking…

I love it when Dummacrats’ true Stalinist nature shines through. People who disagree with them should die in their minds and they don’t see anything wrong with that.
foxforce91 on June 24, 2008 at 11:47 AM
Wow. Wicked! As a cartoonist, I’m sure Mr. Judge will appreciate the humor when he gets this :)
JiangxiDad on June 24, 2008 at 12:37 PM
His skills as a cartoonist,um, how to put it mildly, SUCK! They pay this dweeb to produce THAT? I cannot draw worth a damn, but I could probably do better than that. The theme of the cartoon is even worse than the “artistry”.
Lunkinator on June 24, 2008 at 1:27 PM
First they should be shunned, ridiculed and belittled.
Entelechy on June 24, 2008 at 2:28 PM
… Proof that the Kansas City Star’s editorial cartoonist is a talentless POS who is extremely lucky that he scammed his way into a job where he would otherwise be forced to fall back on his only other skill in life, that of mopping floors for a living.
wise_man on June 24, 2008 at 2:37 PM
The character labeled “Rush Limbaugh” doesn’t look like him–it looks like somebody dropped a gravestone on his head, which was maybe the cartoonist’s intention.
This cartoonist should get a new job trying to draw Mohammed in Denmark.
Steve Z on June 24, 2008 at 3:11 PM
People who choose to do such things deserve anything other than pity or sympathy.
splink on June 24, 2008 at 6:36 PM
Gosh, that cartoon was really in poor taste.
Question is: what would we progressive, liberals do for comic relief; if we didn’t have the lumbering leviathan of levity from Palm Beach, spouting his daily dose of political attack, bigotry in a congenial and humorous manner?
Not much, I’m a feared
J_Gocht on June 24, 2008 at 7:14 PM
I’m afraid to say that Liberals spew forth a whole lot more bigotry in one day than anything Rush has said in a long, long time.
Remember, YOU guys want to take him off the air with the “Fairness Doctrine”. Were it by you, you’d have him begging in the streets of New York, while you stomp him with your own feet until he bleeds.
He can take quite a bit from you all because he tells it like it is. And you can’t stand it! In fact, you HATE him for it! Of course you want him eliminated: he’s a THREAT to you.
newton on June 24, 2008 at 7:20 PM

I said it was “in poor taste” and I meant it.
