IBD: Jed Clampett, Evil Oil Villain

posted at 9:25 pm on June 24, 2008 by Ed Morrissey

Michael Ramirez has won two Pulitzer Prizes for his editorial cartooning, and today’s entry shows why.  Riffing on the theme song of the Beverly Hillbillies, Ramirez notes the impulse to demonize the oil producers:

You can read the words a little clearer at the IBD site.  While you’re there, be sure to click through some of Ramirez’ recent work.  He’s one of the greats.  You can listen to an interview I did with Ramirez and some of the other terrific members of the IBD stable of writers in this podcast.

From looks of the picture some Barack Obama lover took his shotgun away, probably right before they hauled him off to jail.

Come and listen to a story about a man named Juan
A turncoat senator, he barely managed to keep enough conservatives mislead,
Then one day he was shootin his mouth off at some conservative dude,
And up through the ground came a leafing crude.

Lettuce that is, green gold, plantation tea.

Well the first thing you know ol Juan’s campaign chest is that of a millionaire,
Agri-business said “Juan move yourself up there”
Said “El Presidency is the place you ought to be”
So he loaded up his wife’s private jet to move to Washington.

D.C., that is. Lobbyists, payoffs.

Well now its time for Juan to say goodbye to all his campaign spin.
And Juan would like to thank you suckas’ fer kindly votin’ him in.
You’re all invited back again for 2012 for all this mockery
To have a heapin helpin of Juan’s lack of hospitality

LaRasa hospitality that is. Set a spell Gringo, Take a deep breath now.

Y’all can go to Hell now, y’hear?.

And where on your chart on MDS is McCain’s insane Carbon Credit scheme? How is that different from Obama’s Carbon Credit Scheme? Or Al Gore’s Carbon Credit Scheme? They all will destroy our economy and pay off their pals and business associates.

Just how are we going to import all that critical Canadian tar sand oil and use our huge coal resources if these Carbon Credit schemes go into effect? They are nothing more than full attacks on American coal and Canadian tar sands, as well as ANWR and other huge reserves of American oil.

Ramirez wasn’t just talking about the Dems, you know…
why are we being led into this disaster at our convention with our eyes wide open?

On all sides there seemed to be general warming, and John McCain gave Al Gore the title of Imperial Master of Global Warming Science.

Back in my dem (dim) days, I wrote a parody called The Washington Hillbillies about Clenis and Monica. It was funny, and I wish I still had it.
I also did one on Sister Golden Hair, called Sister, Don’t go there. I remember the first verse:

Well I tried to do old Paula,
But her face was such a mess
So I set my sights on Monica,
And I gave her that blue dress.

It was actually the whole song. I used to sit in my cube right under the speaker, and for some reason, the muzak rotation had that song on double play. I heard it ALL the time, and it was in the midst of the mess. I wish I had all my time-wasters. I did some really creative stuff back then… I hated my job. Now, when I hear that song, my own lyrics roll through my head.

I like his; I like parodies on current events. A lot. Oh! I did one on Elian Gonzales, too, on that song Genie in a Bottle called Cuban in a Closet. That one was AWESOME!!! I need to find that one.

McCain has some goofy ideas.

Understated but close enough for government work.

But to obsessively righteously bash tell the truth about him in a thread about domestic oil exploration–which McCain wants talks about out of both sides of his mouth more of–is desperation/derangement seeing him as he is.

Then I tried to molest Katherine Willey,
But she wouldn’t let me lift up her dress
So I got desperate enough to sidle up to Hillary,
And she gave me such a bewildered look that to her everything I did confess.

OT But have you read this disgusting BBC article”
When John McCain was my captive
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/asia-pacific/7459946.stm

McCain’s jailer informs us they were “friends and that he would even vote for him:

“McCain is my friend,” said 75-year-old Mr Duyet as he feeds the caged birds he now keeps in his garden in this coastal city. “If I was American, I would vote for him.”

But here comes, the poison pill, wait for it…:

But I can confirm to you that we never tortured him. We never tortured any prisoners.” ..Mr Duyet reminisces instead about how he often summoned the future US presidential candidate to his private office for informal chats. “

Shame on the BBC, Shame Shame Shame

jgapinoy on June 24, 2008 at 11:16 PM

I’m in the oil business and can tell you emphatically that McCain’s position on ANWR and Carbon Credits will destroy not just the domestic oil industry, but our huge and precious coal industries. I don’t buy this phoney “epiphany”. McCain’s epiphanies – such as his immigration epiphany – an admittedly total fraud utilized to obtain the nomination – as we all now can see – are just lies and wedge-issue pandering.

He is the single most important reason our 1-1.5 million barrels of oil per day (25%+ of our total national production) is not being pumped out of ANWR at this moment. His was the tie-breaking vote, and he sided with his fellow buddies, the Democrats.

The WSJ made the observation that McCain doesn’t even seem to have the basic intelligence to consider what all these contradictory “big policy” initiatives will actually result in. He’s all over the map on a number of issues. It’s pathetic watching him stumble around like a drunken sailor.

I’m humiliated as a Republican to have this trainwreck of a candidate ricochet around the political spectrum, whoring for left-wing and so-called “moderate” votes while performing a disingenuous shell game with the conservative base of his party.

I’m not impressed with his blather about continental shelf drilling. Why does he have to beg the states to approve? It’s a Federal and national security issue, after all.
I don’t think he’s serious about this issue, since California will deny any drilling of their huge offshore reserves. And what about ALaska? They are crying for ANWR to be developed. McCain says: “screw ‘em”. Total schizophrenia and typical McCain pandering/ lying/ backstabbing. It’s his M.O., after all.

I’m proud to totally detest that SOB. Call me all the names you want..

Meanwhile, back with Jed, good humor reigns supreme!

maverick muse on June 25, 2008 at 6:40 AM

Why does McCain defer to state approval?

TexasJew, you make you case well. And McCain is a snake in the grass, but not a rattler. We should keep in mind to respect what remains of states’ rights in principle as the federals have squeezed local control of anything out of the picture. This week, CA residents have voiced their desire to renew drilling offshore. We’ll see how that fickle population pans out. As you said, Alaskans are all for drilling NOW and went to the trouble of preparing the pipeline years ago for business. And for the US to stand back and allow China to abscond with reserves off Florida is INSANITY! We saved it for China?!

maverick muse on June 25, 2008 at 6:51 AM

Hmmm I should go work on my tan. Us Alaskans like to try not to be totally blue.

upinak on June 25, 2008 at 7:39 AM

No, actually Jed is the bad guy. Oil is no different from water. We perish without it in the world today. If someone dams up water and hoards it, people downstream have been known to try diplomacy, but failing that, raise armies and send them upstream to blow up the dam. The world is a small small place. We are totally justified in going around busting up dams where there are unnatural impediments to obtaining our lifeblood resource. If I was Hugo, I’d be trying to get nukes. I know those gringos will be coming to bust up my dam soon.

I’m with TexasJew he’s a lib Dem wrapped in Republican hides and I can smell the stink every time he flips or flops one way or the other to cover his political ass and lie to conservatives.

Unfortunately he may be the only choice we have. Do we want Reps. or Dems to get credit for the coming train wreck, Depression?

I have to agree with you dhunter. However, I think we could avoid the train wreck with McCain in office. He just may listen to the will of the American people when we slammed them for the McCain/Kennedy amnesty bill. If Obama gets in office, I will be clinging to my checkbook, 401k, savings, etc. If McCain gets in office, I will cling to my pocketchange and scream at him to get drilling!

Yep, I work for a oil and gas company, we have several platforms in the Gulf and Offshore California. The location for drilling in ANWR is not the pretty green slopes and mountains the media reports it to be. It is pretty cold up there, lots of ice and snow.
