A plumber normally doesn’t have the means to speak to millions of people on TV or film. A plumber doesn’t have the same amount influence over impressionable kids,teens and brain dead liberals who are enamored over the rich and famous.

If that plumber came into my house and started spouting how horrible America is, I can assure you he would be told to shut up and do his job.

Why is it that we have people here who get upset at every little stupid thing these celebs say?

Speaking strictly for myself. I no longer get upset over what celebs say when it comes to denigrating America, I’ve come to expect that from Hollywood since Vietnam. I guess I still compare them to the stars from the 40’s who were democrats but supported the country in a time of war. So what if most of their movies then were propaganda? They lifted the spirits of the people. That’s when Hollywood had class. Sadly, that’s all gone now.
My mind boggles that these people who could not make a living in the real world, take everything good this country has to offer, give nothing back, then bad mouth the country consistently. Cant they just say “Thanks, America, for all the good stuff” once in a while?
As far as my plumber having an Obama sticker on his truck – that’s irrelevant. It’s a free country he can vote for who he wants and if he’s good I’ll still employ him. If on the other hand he’s in my basement taking my pay and telling me how rotten I’m treating him, that’s a whole nother story. He’s free to leave my house anytime.
I have no problem with actors being socialist democrats – it’s a free country, they can support whomever they want. But I dont have to listen to their anti-America diatribes nor do I have to pay to see another rotten movie.

After we build a fence along the mexican border we need to build a fence along the california border.

How about a bunch of ax-men with reciprocating saws cutting along the Cali-Nevada border? That way Cali can float out to sea and be used for naval gunnery practice.

OTOH, someone who is truly “good” is the actor who you no longer see on the screen as much as you see the character they play.

That’s why I’ve always been a fan of Robert Duvall, especially when he plays a cowboy. Duvall IS the character, he doesnt play one. His Augustus McCrae character in Lonesome Dove was outstanding.

I like Smith’s acting. He seems a personable young man. His family is lovely. His politics….sigh.

But then again, I don’t begrudge Albert Einstein his soft-headed pacifistic pablum of a political theory, and I wouldn’t ask Woody Allen to babysit a teen-aged daughter.

I’ve learned to compartmentalize these things, and it has worked quite well for me. I recommend it. Thus can I watch the intense, highly professional performances of Tom Cruise, and keep the knowledge that he is a certifiable nut-job safely in the theater lobby.

There are, of course, exceptions. Jane Fonda, Oliver Stone, and Spike Lee, for example, will never see one thin dime of my capital (not because I feel it would Make A Point, let alone an impact, but simply because I would feel soiled afterward). Simply too far beyond the pale, and their work is not worth it anyway.

Where I struggle a bit is with the likes of Sean Penn and Kevin Spacey. Daft, sanctimonious Chavez-apologist moonbats of the first order, but outrageously talented. Generally, I come down on the side of capitalism, as an earlier commenter clarified; I pay these folks for their performances. I don’t expect them to have a clue about the world, and as long as that cluelessness doesn’t rise to the level where it intrudes on my experience of those performances, then they’ve earned their keep…And they are free to spend their earnings on large houses in which they can host other clueless people and congratulate each other on how fabulously they weather their oppression under this corrupt and imperialistic regime.

Meh.

HOLLYWOOD – Will Smith has turned his back on pal Tom Cruise’s efforts to convert him to Scientology because he doesn’t want to upset his late grandmother.

Smith admits he has spoken with Cruise about the church the Mission: Impossible actor is a fervent campaigner for, but he could never follow writer and thinker L. Ron Hubbard’s belief system.

He says, “I’ve talked to Tom about it–(there’s) lots of incredible, wonderful concepts (but, my wife) Jada (Pinkett Smith) and I don’t necessarily believe in organized religion.

It’s not about a country’s prosperity, it’s about its image. The lefty logic says that yes, America is rich, but because it plunders other countries’ wealth by force. So immigrants and refugees come to America to enjoy those riches, not because they endorse America’s actions overseas. (That’s lefty logic, not mine). Anyway, Barack is like the ultimate Corporate Communications VP – he would do amazing things for America’s brand because of all the Hopenchange poetry he so skillfully recites. People overseas love a good orator that promises them things.

The point is, you don’t pay them for their political views, you pay them for the trade they provide.

Politics are important to me, and I find it interesting to stay on top of what anyone of influence is doing or “saying”.

I pay someone for what I want to pay them for and sometimes pay them more for the same service due to just that. Likeability (sometimes political, social, character, personality, etc..) is sometimes a factor in who I’m drawn to for services, who I want to work with, and I make those choices daily in my personal life.

I’m always pay a little more for the landscaper that doesn’t use illegals. I support a local Christian-owned audio/video store because I’m drawn to the sales staff. The list goes on and on. Locally I notice that the city gov and citizens are overt in their support of business that supports their ideologies, multiculturalism/diversity, community projects, etc…

As far as liberal celebs (that use their influence to destroy the US like Smith as of late), some consumers will simply not be drawn to them and that will sometimes decrease not only the direct (ticket sales) but the peripheral sales, support, and their “brand”.

The few movies I watch are a choice between many and I’m not drawn toward artists that disgust me (although sometimes I’ll view their craft in spite of it). If you’ve ever worked in sales you’d realize that in most cases it’s not necessarily the product or price, but whether the client warms to the salesman or not, to close it.

Hey, off topic, looking for a response to our government initiating opening an FDA office in Latin America to catch contaminated produce before it comes stateside. DUH, cut out of NAFTA since it does not benefit Americans nor does it benefit Mexican labor wage earners in Mexico. If NAFTA had required Mexico to raise wages, their citizens would not be crashing our borders. NAFTA benefits the Mexican aristocracy, the few who own the many, the few who have absolutely no sense of responsibility for their country’s population, only to retain their elitism AT THE EXPENSE OF AMERICAN CITIZENS HEALTH AND WEALTH AND AT THE EXPENSE OF THE AMERICAN GOVERNMENT THAT CAN ILL AFFORD THE INCUMBRANCES FROM NAFTA.
