When Fred had Huckabee on the ropes he had the momentum behind him, and he gave McCain a free pass. He was on a roll, he had to take time from FOX to get his points across. Hell, Ron Paul had more face time than Fred did in the debate, so all the time Fred got it was because Fred took it.. Fred took out Huckabee at the knee caps, and with one swoop he could have nailed McCain also, and he didn’t, and he never did after that. What does that tell you?

I was defending Fred against those on here who were crying that he didn’t have the fire in his belly, go search the archives. I turned on Fred when Fred wouldn’t turn on McCain. McCain is worse than Huckabee and if Huckabee went down that easy, how much easier would McCain have fallen?

Fred decided to take a nap when he was on top.

FUF!

RobertInAustin on June 23, 2008 at 6:22 PM

As I recall, at that point McCain was far from the front runner. Huckabee and Romney both looked more likely.

Until South Carolina, I don't think anyone expected McCain to win. Fred quite obviously put everything he had on South Carolina, and when he couldn't do better than a distant fourth there, gave it up.

South Carolina gave McCain his momentum, and took Fred out of contention. I think they royally screwed up, but apparently our primary process is pretty royally screwed up, too.

Why don’t we have him now? Because you mother humpers wouldn’t vote for him, that’s why!

You do realize that most of us (readers and U.S. Republicans) don't live in Iowa, Wyoming, New Hampshire, Michigan, Nevada, or South Carolina, right? Ninety-some percent of us had absolutely no say in Thompson's electoral status.

God help us all when we put Ronald Reagan and John McCain in the same video and try to relate them to one another.

OH WAIT!!!

We're screwed if this is what people think is the next frontier for conservatism because you're not going to find it in John McLame... oops I mean uhhh McCain.

It's time to prune the tree and vote the RINO's out. because to save "the tree", the next step after "pruning" is "refreshing" the tree... (which is a little more traumatic)

(which isn’t true in the least.)

Easy to say now whizzman. McCain's attack on the economy will be from a different direction but the end result will be very similar. A recession is a recession...put a happy face on it if you wish. McCain is already telegraphing his priorities (amnesty; no drilling, cap and trade) so support him at your own peril. You want to shake your pom poms and scream like a JV cheerleader at the homecoming pep rally, go right ahead. Whether he's worse than Obama doesn't matter; he'll be bad enough. Think of it this way; when you're getting your nose broken by a broom handle, your first thought is not 'Gosh, this is so much nicer than being tied face down over an ant hill.' People like you want everyone to give thanks for the broom handle. Me, I know the pain is coming, and I'd just as soon sit it out and just wait for it and get it over with, rather than ask for it.

So McCain got a B-minus?
joewm315 on June 23, 2008 at 8:21 PM

I guess.

There are many people more conservative than McCain, that should be no surprise. But according to these people, he scored a "B." Not an F, or a D minus. Some people here *cough* have been on this 'McCain is soooooooo horribleeeeee!" rant for so long that they have moved beyond 'he sucks' (which he does) past 'he's going to be a rotten president (Well, we'll have to wait and see but he is definately no Reagan, maybe as bad as Bush 1 or 2) but into the "OMFG! He's going to be worserererererrrrrr than Obammmma!" (which isn't true in the least.)

As I watched the vid I visulized a RINO.
If I could draw a R I N O it would look like this:

Elephants face, eyes and ears (optimistic, looking to the future, freedom for all) with mule nose (consuming money, labor, and business), elephants starving, shrivled torso with mule tail (elavated) mule legs and feet stomping out oil (transpertation, heating, cooling, and manufacturing).

make sense to you?

I'm still waiting on McCain to earn my vote.

He'll have to do numerous major flip-flops to the hard right, make solid pledges while verbally denouncing the other side of the issues so there is no turning back.

Basically if he makes some serious leftist/Dem/Goracle enemies between now and election time and calls out Obama and democrats for the failed Marxist radical socialists that they are, then I'm down with that. That is the only way I would trust him at this point.

BUT, if he continues to do his whisper-voice moderate pander to each side and continues to leave himself an out to go either way on each issue, I'm not voting for him.

Come on McCain! I'm rootin' for ya!

They are banking on this! That we will vote FOR the GOP nominee because it will be the lesser of two evils. Soon, we will stop doing that! Frankly, IF McCain loses in November it WILL be because enough of us have finally had our fill of that cowardly tactic.

That is asbsolutely correct! The GOP is playing the “THEIR candidate is even worse than ours” card! WEARESCREWED 08

I don't totally lay the blame at the feet of the GOP. I lay a lot of it at the feet of the Republican's who keep putting Rino's in office for fear that a liberal might go to DC instead of the Rino. Politicans will not change until they HAVE too. If Republicans would rise up and refuse to send Rino's to the state capitol and DC, then those wanting th positions would quickly find thmselves seeing which party best is in line with their philosophy.

Here is an example, I was on vacation in Kentucky and I was listening to Lexingtom talk radio. They were discussing with McCain-Kennedy bill came up 50,000 people contacted the Republican in DC and told him to vote against it. The Republican they put in DC changed his mind, he was going to vote for it, but then he changed his mind. All saw it as a good thing. I have a problem with that, why was he even voting for it in the first place? Were Republicans all of a sudden for illegals getting a free ride? Has that always been the Republican position? Yet, the Kentucky Republican was going to pass a Democrat bill sponsored by yours truly. The good people in Kentucky should tell him than you for changing your mind, but in 2 years you are gone and start looking for a replacement becuase he clearly is confused about what Kentucky Republicans want.

Again, it has to begin at the grass roots. As long as big party Republicans keep telling the lie that their Rino is better than the lib, gullible people will continue to believe that if a democrat gets elected instead of the Rino they are offred than puppies and kittens will suddenly die and it will all be their fault.

IF the Conservatives had supported Thopmson, we would have a real legitimate Conservative. INSTEAD, we focused of inane issues! Why won't he try on that fire hat? Does he really WANT the job? He is not acting like he has fire in the belly, etc.
Rush said it, Thompson had too much depth! I guess in a society obsessed with their Blue Tooths and American Idol, that does not go over very well.

For those who regret that they can’t vote for Thompson over McCain…suck it up and consider the alternative of President Barack Hussein Obama. If that scares you, then vote for McCain, with noseplugs if needed.

And when you do such a thing all the Rino's are hearing is that when given a choice between Obama and Obama lite you will vote for them. Keep them in power. They will continue to screw you and you will continue to keep sending them to DC for fear that an honest tax and spend liberal will get there instead.

I know where Fred stood on the issues, that is why I backed him and sent him my money. Duh.

Think about this, considering the momentum McCain was developing, would it be wise for THE conservative in the race to punch him as hard as possible, with the possibility that McCain would still win anyway?

If you don't play to win, then what are you playing for? This isn't a Saturday morning soccer game where we don't keep score and everyone gets a trophy at the end of the year.

What do you think the Democraps would have done with Fred’s words?

Do I care? What are they doing with McCain's? Respecting them?

BS.

The problem with Fred Thompson is that he didn't have his campaign well-organized, or his message clear, when he announced his candidacy. After delaying his announcement for several months, everybody expected a movie star, and he came across as stuttering and unsure of himself during the early TV interviews, after which people lost interest.

Fred Thompson is a profound thinker, and was a good Senator, but probably not good enough as a campaigner to take on a slickster like Obama. He could probably have a Cabinet position or a Supreme Court nomination in a McCain Administration, and his support of McCain is most welcome, but Thompson didn't have his message right when it counted the most--shortly after his announcement.

We believe the government should do only those things we cannot do individually.

I'd say that most conservatives would restrict the government a great deal more than that. There are many things individuals can't do that shouldn't be done by anyone, least of all the government.
