“What should progressives say? That conservatism is ‘fundamentally antidemocratic.’ It ‘tells us to save your own skin and not to care about your neighbor,’ so ‘conservatives don’t pay that much attention to injured veterans.’ As an exemplar of conservatism, Lakoff cites the CNN anchor Wolf Blitzer.”

And we have the scholarship from numerous sources that conservatives donate more money and time to charity and are more actively involved in charitable work.
That includes secular charities and not just their church/synagogue.
Apparently, Mr. Lakoff missed all of this evidence.

“Lakoff blames ‘neoliberals’ and their ‘Old Enlightenment’ mentality for the Democratic Party’s weakness.”
Guilty as charged! I’m an “old enlightenment” type, and I’m doing my best to weaken the Democratic Party.
I’m still not sure what he means by “neoliberal”. I think it might mean “classical liberal”. If so, there are none left in the Democrat party.

Nothing can show that pure facts are myths. It would be like showing that what is, isn’t, and what isn’t, is. Like something out of Alice and Wonderland. Self-interest is neither a conservative nor a liberal idea, it is one of the many things that are embedded in nature. For a cognitive scientist he is profoundly lacking in cognitive ability. I highly recommend that he stop taking LSD and be given electroshock therapy and maybe something of what’s left of his life can be salvaged..

conservatism is the belief that you are a free person given certain inalienable rights by your creator among these are live liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
As a free person you can “save your own skin” you can give your time to a worthy cause, you can sit on the sofa and not give a crap about your neigbor or you can go mow your elderly neighbors yard.
As a free person you have free will and make decsions based on your morals, your life history, and your intelligence.
You can chose to work, or play or surf the web.
the point is that it is your life to do with what you want not some politicians in washington that makes you do what they think is good for you.

And so we watch as Newspeak is realized, with aggression. Lakoff is easily one of the most dangerous and evil men in all of western civilization, if not alive on the planet, today. Certainly nobody living–or possibly who has ever lived–has less respect for the American people, or more contempt for the basic human notions of honesty and truth. He would have flourished in the propaganda industries of Hitler or Stalin; instead, we find him here, plying essentially the same trade, but with greater skill. He is a monster lacking a bodycount only by circumstance.

The article is nothing but a pretty way to say that mindwashing is a good thing. What an idiot.
what the author fails to understand is that there are basic human natural laws. that all humans strive for freedom. that all humans given the choice will pick freedom over governmental control. That all humans when faced with an outside threat will rally around their leader to protect the society until the threat is past.
that all humans will have greed and fear when it comes to economics.
that all humans understand that to live in a society some freedoms must be sacrifices like the freedom to kill, to rape etc.
All humans also understand that because government is made up of humans the government is subjected to the same factors that the rest of society is. There will be fraud, abuse, scandelsetc
All Americans at one time understood that government was a necessary evil.

They aren’t projecting. Projection is an unconscious psychological mechanism. This is a deliberate attempt to manipulate language with the consciously deceptive goal of leading voters (who Lakoff views as inherently gullible and stupid) to believe that characteristics of his Statist vision, which he knows to be unpopular, are instead flaws in the opposing political vision–and he knows full well they are not.
It’s more than merely a lie, it’s a rejection of the very idea of “lie,” a perspective that there are no ethical connotations whatsoever to the use of language, only a Machiavellian determination that any utterance is acceptable if only it results in the desired distribution of power. He has no interest in language conveying useful information, only in its manipulating emotion. It’s the kind of thing Orwell prophecied, and it is absolute human evil.

I’m seriously confused about something: Democrats always go on and on about how Republicans always beat them. But they control both houses of Congress, they have 28 out of 50 governorships, and their presumptive nominee for President has raised triple the amount of money as his Republican counterpart. In what way, exactly, are Democrats losing??
This fetish they have with always being the “underdog” and always “losing” would be pathetic if the possible consequences of it were so frightening. What happens if Obama wins, and they still focus on “beating” Karl Rove that he lets Iran start a war just because he’s convinced they’ll win anyway?

OT -
Where is John McCain? Where is Barak Obama?
Time to call your reps and tell them you oppose HR 5830 if it provides for GNMA home loan guarantees to CFC.
Did Bank Of America / CFC Write The Housing Bill?
I’m not even sure where to start with this.
National Review Online has broken a story in which they state:
“National Review Online has obtained an internal Bank of America “discussion document” (pdf here) on the subject of the FHA Housing Stabilization and Homeownership Retention Act of 2008, a.k.a. the Dodd-Shelby mortgage-lender bailout bill.
Yesterday, Tim Carney reported that the prevailing sentiment on Capitol Hill is that the Dodd-Shelby bill “is exactly what Bank of America and Countrywide wanted.” BofA is in the process of acquiring Countrywide. Countrywide is currently embroiled in a scandal over its V.I.P. program, under which several powerful politicians, including Sen. Chris Dodd, got preferential loan rates.
This discussion document (dated March 11, 2008) would appear to support the contention that BofA essentially wrote the bailout section of the bill. Almost all of BofA’s preferences are mirrored in the Dodd-Shelby legislation. The BofA document even offers PR tips, such as “We believe that any intervention by the federal government will be acceptable only if it is not perceived as a bail-out of the bond market.”
This is an outrage. Senator Dodd was discovered to have gotten a “special” mortgage from Countrywide Financial (they are being “acquired” by BofA) as I wrote about in “Where’s the FBI”. Senators and Reps have since declined to do anything more than allow an “ethics investigation” to take place.
Now we find out that it appear that Bank Of America wrote the damn bill that he and Shelby introduced!
Now why is this important? Because it stinks to high hell, that’s why. And more importantly, if you read that linked document closely you will find that GNMA, otherwise known as “Ginnie Mae”, should be the issuer of the bailed out loans.
This is an absolute ticking nuclear weapon folks.
You are about to get robbed to the tune of $300 billion dollars. Ginnie Mae is the ONLY issuer that has an EXPLICIT government backstop. That is, if this plan fails you will be be on the hook for every penny of defaulted loan as a taxpayer.
Now I do not know if the actual final bill that will come out and be sent to the President (who has said he’ll veto it, by the way) will contain the GNMA underwriting or not.
But for Bank of America to “propose” that the government step in and rewrite, then guarantee hundreds of billions of dollars of retained mortgages that Countrywide Financial (and others) have on its books, while they are supposedly “buying” Countrywide Financial, is an absolute outrage.
This is corporate welfare at its worst – Countrywide is being investigated by virtually every 3-letter agency of the government that exists for the possibility of violating both civil and criminal law, and now Bank Of America, who agreed to buy them around the turn of the year, three months later essentially writes a bill that would remove some of the risk that they are buying something that has more liabilities than assets by shifting a good part of those liabilities to the taxpayer?!
If we the people allow this bill to pass, even if it is vetoed, it appears that there is a veto-proof majority in Congress and the veto will get overridden. That is, we must stop this in Congress and we must stop it NOW.
Mark my words folks. If you do not pass this Ticker around to everyone you know on Monday, and manage to get the Capitol Hill switchboard flooded with calls and faxes demanding that this bill be killed, you will get billed for the entirety of the housing bailout. All of it.
Lenders will receive a windfall in that their potential losses in the bad paper on their books will be transferred to you.
This will be only the first. Using this bill as a template Fannie and Freddie will be next. The mortgage insurers are drowning, with one of them being forced into runoff this last week. The others will likely follow. If and when they fail, Fannie and Freddie’s credit book will be forced to trade on its underlying credit quality – that is, it will be exposed as toilet paper and full of fraudulently-sold loans (to them) that contain material misrepresentations as to the credit quality of the property and/or borrower.
This bill will then be extended to cover those losses.
How much loss will you, the taxpayer, eat?
As I have said, my total estimated loss in this party is going to be between $2.5 and $3 trillion dollars, which is roughly equal to one third of the entire public debt of the United States.
That’s right folks, Bank Of America’s “proposal”, which will become law unless you stand up and stop it right now, will ultimately end up costing you, the taxpayer, $3 trillion dollars, and $300 billion of that cost is contained in the bill “as written.”
To fund that treasury bonds and bills will have to be issued, and that will drive borrowing costs much higher.
If there was ever a time that you HAD to get off your butt to save yourself, this is it. Congress must hear not only from you today and Monday, but from every one of your friends, and they must tell their friends.

This is interesting. It does, however, run into the problem of the immaterial arising from the material. As far as I know, there is no other thing in the universe that has no substance other than thoughts. For instance, while there is certainly chemical and electral activity going on in my head right now, there is no reason to believe that each instance of activity relates directly to the actions I am taking (i.e. using a keyboard to relate thoughts in english on a computer). I think John Derbyshire might have a thing or two to say to Mr. Lakoff about this. I wonder if Mr. Lakoff has been to any neuro science forums lately. It is a lively field of study. But I sincerely hope that Mr. Lakoff’s theory is more complicated than simply, “the mind is the brain.”

Republican Congressman Thad McCotter took to the House floor and in 3 minutes translated the Democrats agenda:
In the interest of legislative process, whereby we hear many speeches on the floor, many members talk to their constituents; I’m going to try to bring a bit of enlightenment to this process with the use of a technological device as a ruler and chart. We’re going to learn how to speak Democrat today.
Speaking local Democrat. Often we hear the word progressive, which translates into regressive, as used in a sentence, democrats are progressive. The translation, Democrats are regressive.
We hear the word change which means the 1970’s. Democrats will bring you change. Translation, Democrats will bring you the 1970’s.
Government means socialism. Democrats support proactive government. Translation, Democrats support proactive socialism.
Enhance revenues translates into raise taxes. Democrats will enhance revenues. Translation, Democrats will raise taxes.
This is my favorite part. The rich means you. For example, Democrats will only tax the rich. Translation, Democrats will only tax you. Ouch.
Invest translates into waste. Again used in a sentence. Democrats will invest your money. Translation, Democrats will waste your money.

What struck terror in my heart was not the threat of WMD”S..it was the killing of 3000 innocent people on 9/11. But I do still believe there were WMD’s and they were smuggled to Syria.
Anyway..I was a life-long democrat, raised in a family of lifelong democrats. After 9/11, I was disgusted with the actions of the dem party and their non-ideas to protect us from another attack.
I immediately switched parties and became a republican….much to the shame of my liberal brothers. hmm..perhaps I was brainwashed at a young age?

An example of what has taken root, even among the AP,Ed and other pundits, is the notion that the NYT is an American institution that must/should be listened to. It has been a long time since that was true, yet here we are.
My attitude toward the Times and TV is simple. The bad far outweighs the good, so I don’t use them. Although another traitorous article like this certainly helps McCain get elected, so on balance, this one might have to go into the good column.

Thanks for posting this, AP. IMO, we all need be well versed in Lakoff, just as we need to understand Gramscii, as these two influence so heavily the ‘progressive’ script.
Led by Lakoff, ‘progressives’ want to transform the country, by re-engineering our minds to make it happen. For tools, they reject facts and reason, in favor of images, frames and repetition (propaganda). The significance of communication is no longer the veracity of its message, but whether it accomplishes its desired effect. Is this Brave New World, or what?

Neo- connotates a reappearance. “Neoclassicism” 18th Century denotes the resurgence of their interest in the ancient classics, primarily Greek philosophy, architecture, art and aesthetics as applicable to the new contemporary period.
But our times have already been illustrated as the most twisted and illogical as deconstructionists abound everywhere with their insolvent molotovs.
Hence, whatever vocabulary the ubertard Rousseau disciples flaunt is vapid upon reflection. They play Lord of the Flies as though their revisionism rules the ending. ONLY IF YOU LET IT. I defy their lies. I am not alone.

It appears that the democrats have taken Lakoff’s message to heart. After the 2004 elections, there was an item I read that the democrats were going to use this guy’s ideas to frame their message. I can’t remember where I read it but I remember Rush commenting on this at the time.
We see that the democrat party does repeat their criticisms (lies) over and over again so often that they now firmly believe the nonsense!
Vince on June 22, 2008 at 11:56 AM
Also we allow them to frame the debate, often without recognizing the mistake and how decisive it is. He who defines the terms of debate usually wins it, especially when emotional appeals are used to trump fact and reason.
Leftists have put great stock in rhetorical manipulation since the 60’s. Seeing how much they’ve deconstructed America (and intimidated the right) since then, I wish we’d learn how to defeat it.

It’s called “a well-armed populace”.
There are a plethora of well-constructed philosophical arguments against everything Lakoff says (and even the main thrust of Chomsky’s LINGUISTIC argument, as opposed to his political stances, contradicts Lakoff), as well as a variety of self-contradicting statements he makes (meaning it doesn’t even require an external critique to disprove his sh*t), as pointed out above, yet he still persists in spouting his crap 24/7.
From these facts, I have deduced that nothing short of a hot war against him and those who support his “ideas”, (which are actually in their own way a form of self-interest because, after all, who’s going to police the “framing” of Lakoff’s future utopia if not a bunch of little Lakoffs, with maybe Lakoff himself as head of The Department of Framing? And presumably they will be renumerated for that activity at a far greater relative rate than they are renumerated today for their activities), is likely to put paid to the debate. Just like there were a million logical arguments against slavery, but it took the crushing defeats of actual battle to put an end to the institution of slavery.
In the near-term, it will suck (civil wars always do), but decades hence, when there are no more leftists, the world will be a much better place and no one will miss them, just like no one misses the “Old South” or the French aristocracy or any number of losing factions in any number of countries’ civil wars.
Call me a pessimist, but this is what I believe will happen. Anything short of civil war is like a best case for me.
