That’s the way I hear too SteveZ. I think the international community he mentions in the previous paragraph understands they have a stake in our security and have mutual security interests. I think in this case ‘them’ is Iran.

The Piled Higher and Deeper kind. I work in a microbiology lab (and teach it, too), but my training is in genetics and molecular biology.

To stay on topic: If Barry is elected, I will continue to exercise my 2nd amendment rights because I fear he will not protect our country. Of course in his quest to remake the United States in his image, he may/will try to subvert that one too. Too many armed citizens would be a bad thing for terrorists.

Because as already been stated, we’re not going to defeat terrorists on our own. We’ve got to strengthen our intelligence relationships with them, and they’ve got to feel a stake in our security by recognizing that we have mutual security interests at stake.

Dear Great Guru of Eloquent Rhetoric: What is the antecedent of “them” in this passage? Terrorists? Do we need to share intelligence with terrorists? Do terrorists need to feel a stake in our security? Do we have mutual security interests with terrorists?

Maybe that’s why Obama is so eager to talk with Ahmadinejad.

This nation can and will defeat terrorists — on our own, or with help. We’ve been pretty much doing that now for the past 7 years. You might have noticed our successes in this regard if you hadn’t been so preoccupied with your pursuit of money, status, and power. OK. You’re right. I do feel ashamed. I’ll try to correct. I’m seriously thinking of quitting both of my jobs (full-time scientist and part-time professor) if Barry is elected POTUS. Seriously though, with all of the things Barack is promising to give individuals (health care, mortgage subsidies, expanded unemployment benefits, etc.) and all of the punishments he’s proposing (higher capital gains, repeal of Bush tax cuts, removal of payroll tax cap, new taxes on business), what incentive is there to work in the United States of America under the leadership of a President Obama?

Instead, the next thing we would have to do, in addition to talking to the American people, is making sure that we are talking to the international community.

Obama would give a speech and then turn things over to the FBI. In other words, he’d do nothing but talk. He might blame Bush, I suppose and do some apologizing in front of the UN, but essentially nothing would be done.

He’s Jimmy Carter part deux…and G_d help us if he’s in power when something worse than 9/11 comes down the pike. Chances are that sooner or later it will, and America is going to be in trouble with this empty suit at the controls.

I feel the same way as you, brotha. There are days when I wish I could run for POTUS. My main problem? I’m not independently wealthy. My other problem? I’m a healthy, (rather highly) educated, Christian, middle class, heterosexual, married, father, home-owning (mortgage-paying….on time) male of European heritage. I’m the cause of all of the world’s problems.

True, but that would require people to make decisions on their own to be accountable for those decisions.
I remember seeing a great Discovery channel program years before Katrina showing the effects if the levies were breached during a hurricane.
Two levies breached in Illinois today. No gators eating babies though. No looting yet.

However poor the Katrina response was, that failure started at the state and local level, before and after the hurricane struck.

As someone who has lived on the Texas coast my entire life, I have experienced several hurricanes, prepared for the potential land fall for many others, as well as, tropical storms that can be just as devastating as a cat 1 hurricane. Those stupid people in NO created an unnecessary situation for themselves. Two days out as I watched Katrina moving closer as a cat 5, I was preparing my home and packing up my essentials and investigating which was I was going to move … AND I DON’T LIVE BELOW SEA-LEVEL!

This is an interesting response. I don’t think he’s talking about the international community; he’s talking about the terrorists that attack us.

This is the basis for his position on national security, ala talking without our pre-conditions to Iran.

I know. I detest it when these idiots keep bringing up the response to Katrina. It is sooooooo disingenuous. Response to disaster is as follows: Local (First), State (Second) and Federal (Third – at the request of the state). If the liberals are going to bring up Katrina, remind them of the failed Dumbocrat politicians that were in charge (Nagin and Blanco). They are the main reason for what everyone saw.
