The simple way to do it would be Photoshop the tape. When you couple that with their comment, “We want to preserve the integrity of the videos,” it appears to me that is what they did. The simplest explanation is often the correct one as per Occam’s Razor.

Well, I was wrong about the ionizing radiation being used in microwave ovens (guess I’ve slept since then) but I’m right about the its very dangerous to expose yourself to enough microwave energy to pop a kernel of corn.

Four Camrose, Alberta teens broke into a house, vandalized it, and tortured the family cat, by microwaving it to death.

The words “Nice cat, look in the microwave” were, allegedly, scrawled in felt pen on the kitchen window and on the kitchen cabinets.

One of the four accused is already on probation for setting his brother on fire, last year. But his mom says it was an “accident.” (Yeah, right.)

When I was in the service a radar technician stood in fron of an air search radar feed horn when it was transmitting. It cooked his insides. Ruined his whole day, he died.

I hate to spoil the fun but this is seriously DANGEROUS. A microwave oven has lethal voltages inside, especially those that feed the magnetron. Also, I would not want to be exposed to an improperly shielded working magnetron, if you could get it to work as shown in the video. After all, it is used for cooking meat.

This was written up in a USAF official publication, not a consumer publication, in the early 60s. I didn’t take is as a “sea story”, but perhaps it was. I was Navy too.

Microwave radiation is non-ionizing. It does it’s damage by heat. There are published articles of it causing cataracts in test animals (rabbits). There is no confirming data for humans I can find, but probably because they haven’t run live tests.

Still, I thinks it is stupid and dangerous to do this. The CPSC requires interlocks, seals and RF screens on microwave ovens. There have been product recalls for bad seals. Manufacturers say not to do what done here.

You should have prefaced this with “Now this is no sh*t” cause that sea story was around when I was in the canoe club back in the 60s. I heard it many times, usually in conjunction with the Terrier missile guidance radar. Don’t know if it was true or not since I never met anyone who actually “Knew” the guy that got cooked.

Do microwaves make food “radioactive”? According to the USDA, the answer is no. Microwave energy uses a wavelength similar to TV, radio waves, electric shavers and radar that is not radioactive. X-rays and nuclear radiation are at the other end of the spectrum and are a million times more powerful.

The fallacy that you "nuke" your food in the traditional understanding of radioactivity (non-ionizing microwave vs ionizing x-ray) is incorrect and is probably where most people got the impression that it was potentially radioactive. The only real danger here is from heating (the same way food would) including dangers to the eye particularly the lens (Microwave). DKK

Also, the walls of the microwave reflect the radiation, so you get more radiation for less power than you would from a strict inverse square relation, meaning that the radiation is a lot less powerful than you might guess.
