No surprises here. The Boss hasn’t been his own roadie for too long. Out of touch.

What is it about hard work that keeps the mind focussed on the important things?

acat on June 17, 2008 at 12:57 PM

I’ll never quite understand how someone who’s voice sounds like the screeching of a cat that just got it’s tail stepped on, ever made it in the music industry.

Not a Springsteen fan, on any level.

fogw on June 17, 2008 at 12:57 PM

Weird Al Yanksteen?

RBMN on June 17, 2008 at 1:00 PM

Can I get you a tissue Bruce? Kind of funny.

kahall on June 17, 2008 at 1:02 PM

Just another fake, phoney court-jester. At least I don’t hafta worry ’bout throwing away his albums, I never had any.

On the other hand, I have EVERY Bon Jovi album and almost threw ‘em out back in ‘04.

Tony737 on June 17, 2008 at 1:02 PM

Don’t mess with Bruce. He single-handedly got John Francois Kerry elected President with his tireless campaigning.

———————-

Anybody remember that Rick Springfield song “Bruce“?

misterpeasea on June 17, 2008 at 1:02 PM

I’m the Boss! Get back to Work!

Vizzini on June 17, 2008 at 1:02 PM

He was never a part of the working class in the first place.

My collie says:

Not to mention that I can sing better than “the boss”.

CyberCipher on June 17, 2008 at 1:03 PM

That’s not Springsteen is it? That’s a spoof.
I’m not a fan either, but that song has to be a joke, right?

4shoes on June 17, 2008 at 1:03 PM

Onionpod?

4shoes on June 17, 2008 at 1:03 PM

Yes it is obviously a jokey joke.

kahall on June 17, 2008 at 1:05 PM

I hope all of you know that’s a parody.

Judging by the comments here of those who really think the boss is singing, it’s a pretty good one.

mattshu on June 17, 2008 at 1:05 PM

Hey, Bruce!

STFU and STFD! And your songs suck, too!

Love,

The Proletariat

dmh0667 on June 17, 2008 at 1:06 PM

I don’t get it. Some guy goofing on Springsteen.

Is that it?

(Springsteen doesn’t need this so much as he needs a hard kick in the nuts; socialist loser).

Jaibones on June 17, 2008 at 1:06 PM

Gaack. What happened to him? He has turned into a clenched-teeth, low-energy, somewhat seedy middle ager with as much grudge as grunge. If you hadn’t expressly told me that was Springsteen, I wouldn’t have recognized him. I would have just had a vague recognition of the voice.

RushBaby on June 17, 2008 at 1:06 PM

My collie says:

look better too!

right4life on June 17, 2008 at 1:07 PM

Some guy goofing on Springsteen.

Is that right? Well the corner does say funny(something).com.

RushBaby on June 17, 2008 at 1:08 PM

Judging by the comments here of those who really think the boss is singing, it’s a pretty good one.

mattshu on June 17, 2008 at 1:05 PM

The “Boss” never sang. He yelled a lot.

fogw on June 17, 2008 at 1:09 PM

I appreciate the irony that most of us are watching and laughing at this instead of doing our jobs.

CarpeCanis on June 17, 2008 at 1:09 PM

I never watched a real Springsteen video start to finish.

This is much more entertaining.

EJDolbow on June 17, 2008 at 1:10 PM

Yep… I think its a parody…

It even has a credit for the guy playing springersteen…

Romeo13 on June 17, 2008 at 1:11 PM

Er, it’s obviously a parody, guys. See the credits at the end?

Allahpundit on June 17, 2008 at 1:14 PM

That guy is about twenty-five years younger than Bruce Springsteen.

Nothing good comes from Asbury Park…………

Hening on June 17, 2008 at 1:15 PM

Why doesn’t the Ugly Mug Boss just “shut up and sing”? Oh, that’s right, I remember now, he can’t sing. He can mumble kind of loud though. So let me try that again. Why doesn’t the Ugly Mug Boss just “shut up and mumble”?

MB4 on June 17, 2008 at 1:15 PM

Ahhhh. Nothing like another self absorbed gazillionaire for the Tuesday Stupid segment.

Good help is hard to find, right Boss? He must be pissed at the maid at home for putting single-ply off-brand in the loo instead of the good stuff.

BacaDog on June 17, 2008 at 1:16 PM

Ever wonder why there hasn’t been an American blue-collar rock star since the ’70s? The press only likes British working-class heroes.

mymanpotsandpans on June 17, 2008 at 1:16 PM

Good God, ** this is a spoof **!!!

Does no one understand that this is a joke? I would think that the corner reading (quite plainly), “Funny or Die.com” would be an easy clue…but in case that was insufficient, a quick click on the link shows you the page with this bit of info in plain sight;

Pete Hulne as Bruce Springsteen. Music Composed by John LaMantia. Lyrics by Jim Wise and Pete Hulne.

Jeez, I can get entertainment anywhere. I was hoping for some political discussion here though….

Geministorm on June 17, 2008 at 1:17 PM

OOps! I are the stupid!

Been so long since I saw the Bruce, I thought it was him.

BacaDog on June 17, 2008 at 1:17 PM

This is a brilliant parody done by a guy who, judging by the comments, comes off as one hell of a Springsteen.

And, hey…I’ve been to that drycleaners.

Didn’t watch the video.

I already have a headache, why make it worse?

fogw on June 17, 2008 at 1:21 PM

Wonderful! That’s the best Springsteen parody since 1984 when “Bruce Springstone” did Boss versions of “Meet the Flintstones” and “Take Me Out To The Ballgame.” I have that on vinyl. In fact this one is even better since it skewers Bruce’s limousine liberal politics as well as his musical style.

rockmom on June 17, 2008 at 1:22 PM

Tony’s list of the top five all-time overrated musicians include Elvis, John Lennon, Michael Jackson, Prince, and Bruce Springsteen.

The odd man out here is Bruce. At least the others have and had some measure of talent.

Jacko was overrated as a human being but you can’t honestly believe he wasn’t an extremely talented musician, can you?

fogw on June 17, 2008 at 1:29 PM

“I’m the Boss… get back to work!!”

That line alone is classic. The Rick Springfield mix-up was pretty good.

I think this thread shows how many people actually watch/read the content before commenting.

Good lord, people. This is a parody. As in: ha ha.

Redhead Infidel on June 17, 2008 at 1:36 PM

Allahpundit on June 17, 2008 at 1:14 PM

Wow. C’mon, guys. You actually think a left wing nut like Springsteen would ever sing about going back to work? Geez.

malan89 on June 17, 2008 at 1:37 PM

Yeah. Springsteen.

The guy who sounds like he’s drunk with a speech impediment.

Yep, that’s the guy I want telling me what I should know and do.

[/sarc]

Mommynator on June 17, 2008 at 1:37 PM

Uh, did the “Funny or Die” tag in the corner not provide a clue?

Good parody. And Springsteen is a hella songwriter, his constant whiny proselytizing notwithstanding.

spmat on June 17, 2008 at 1:44 PM

Er, it’s obviously a parody, guys.

Better parody? Eddie and the Cruisers.
Better music, better lyrics and Eddie never wore out his welcome.

Stephen M on June 17, 2008 at 1:46 PM

Well, he sounds better than the boss Bruce.

madmonkphotog on June 17, 2008 at 1:48 PM

ynot4tony2 on June 17, 2008 at 1:23 PM

Tony, who ever you are, you’re absolutely right on everyone but Elvis and Lennon. I truly do wish, given the extreme toxicity and harm of his influence on our Society I could include Lennon ( I do detest the man), but given the quality of his music I simply cannot. As for Elvis, I direct you to the Sun recordings. No amount of later schlock can undo that.

Yes I agree, some posters here might do well to watch the source material to its conclusion before jumping to conclusions.

Nyog_of_the_Bog on June 17, 2008 at 1:49 PM

I know it’s not really Springsteen…The Boss is still an uneducated mindless idiot who has no business talking about politics, as he doesn’t know what the hell he’s talking about. Same goes for Sean Penn, George Clooney, and the rest of the usual garbage. When these marroons get poly sci Phd’s, then I might listen. Until then, shut up and sing(In Springsteen’s case-don’t) or shut up and act.

adamsmith on June 17, 2008 at 1:50 PM

This is Bruce’s best work since “The River!”

And, usually, people who do the parody aren’t as talented as the people they’re parodying….this could be a rare exception.

wildweasel on June 17, 2008 at 1:56 PM

Hey, it’s actually the best sounding song by ‘Bruce’ since at least the mid-1990s. “41 Shots” anyone?

jon1979 on June 17, 2008 at 2:01 PM

It’s been said already, but just to repeat, that is a joke song. It’s not Bruce singing, and it’s very unlikely that he had anything to do with the video.

That said, I like the concept but not the video itself.

Though I think there is some truth in the song anyway. I could be wrong, but people do seem to be getting lazier. We’re so comfortable over here that we don’t have to worry so much about whether or not something will get done.

Esthier on June 17, 2008 at 2:06 PM

Made me laugh. “I’m the Boss; get back to work” is funny even if’n it ain’t the real Springsteen singing it. Decent impersonation too.

sulla on June 17, 2008 at 2:08 PM

Bruce had a good career writing music for others, but there is one reason and one reason ONLY that he became a stage act of his own:

Mike’s Culture Clubs with Mechanic’s Seagul Hats

That’s right, if it weren’t for the absolute GARBAGE music in the 1980s and late 1970s, nether Bruce Springstein nor Johnny Cougar Mellonhead would have ever been able to become hits. If there had been REAL Rock music on the airwaves then the junk synth-pop that was everywhere, we never would have had these two anti-American creeps make it big.

Neither Springstein nor Mellonhead can sing worth a lick. But, they were about the only two acts still doing regular rock-n-roll at that time. Everyone else was wearing makeup, puffing their hair, and mincing around the stage like Boy George. Music was absolute dreck during the 80s. Springstein and Mellonhead were lucky that no one else was making any rock.

Warner Todd Huston on June 17, 2008 at 2:09 PM

I thought it was pretty funny. And yes, I know it’s not Bruce Springsteen. I think some people here missed that, I guess I’m showing my age. He had soem pretty good songs. Born in the U.S.A.? Come on people.

Geronimo on June 17, 2008 at 2:28 PM

Soem = some. Dammit.

Geronimo on June 17, 2008 at 2:28 PM

Bruce Springsteen has been canonized as the voice of the working class but there are some things in his background that show him not to be such a wonderful guy. Bruce gave a concert in 1978 and a former GF of his named Lynn Goldsmith, who was a prominent photographer, was there. Bruce went apes_ _t when he spotted her and had her removed from the stage area. There are photographs of the incident and some of the photos pop up in books about Saint Bruce. And according to news accounts, Bruce verbally blasted her from the stage. Only a bully would behave like that. I could not be a fan of any musician who treats another human being like dirt.
Having said that, the early Bruce Springsteen was a brilliant incandescent performer. Check out on youtube the young Bruce Springsteen performing “I don’t wanna go home” with Southside Johnny at a small club in Cleveland in the late 1970s. Just fantastic.

Larraby on June 17, 2008 at 2:29 PM

In my opinion it’s not a waste of time to watch a video when it’s to bash another limo-liberal politico like Bruce “I’m a tool that can’t sing” Springsteen, unfortunately I don’t see the video that’s supposed to be available, what gives?

Liberty or Death on June 17, 2008 at 2:41 PM

Who gives a rat’s backside what this jackass says or think? He’s nothing but a screamer . . . a rich screamer but nevertheless just a screamer.

rplat on June 17, 2008 at 2:46 PM

Bruce’s politics suck but “The Wild, the Innocent and the E Street Shuffle” is one of my favorite albums of all time. Springsteen runs the gamut from ballsy bar bandleader to troubadour on that record.

Loved the parody, too. “Get back to work”. Heh. That’s comedy gold.

MikeZero on June 17, 2008 at 2:52 PM

that was funny

Good God, ** this is a spoof **!!!

Of course it is!

But so many people on HA just want to rant and rave and vent their spleen, that it really doesn’t matter to them…they’ll just pretend it’s really Springsteen.

asc85 on June 17, 2008 at 3:36 PM

1. Give up trying to tell people it’s a spoof. They watch it or read the headline and start mouthing off. No time to get the cite, but it’s in Proverbs or Ecclesiastes: (paraphrase) “He who judges a matter before he hears it is a fool.”

Even Allahpundit seems from the headline to have been fooled. If the headline was an attempt to test the stupidity of the people here, good job, but may he please say so. Otherwise, nice attempt at covering (June 17, 2008 at 1:14 PM).

2. The song and video, while in places disrespectful or just plain odd (the montage of famous people makes no sense), makes a point. Rich or poor, if a person is waited on by a server or whatever, they are OWED respect and good service. Lazy@$$es in a welfare mentality, thanks to liberals.

Well I think the video is GREAT. Springsteen gets pushed too far and his alter ego takes over. Very nice work.

Tuning Spork on June 17, 2008 at 6:04 PM

1) He can get his own damn tissue.
2) Don’t try that on a real postal carrier if you don’t like jail food.
3) Pay the bus driver something more than peanuts if you care so much about your kids, maybe you’ll attract safer ones.
4) That ain’t Bruce anyway.

sloopy on June 17, 2008 at 6:21 PM

That guy is pretty good. I bet springsteen is pissed. Springsteen writes songs about how new jersey sucks, America sucks, life suck and how he’s so heroic and brave and will overcome everthing sucking. new jersey and hollywood deserves him.

“Repetitive jerk”, says it all.

peacenprosperity on June 17, 2008 at 6:49 PM

Bruce Springsteen rocks you haters.

So much so that I am able to look past his wacked out political views.

tlynch001 on June 17, 2008 at 6:57 PM

That was well done and funny to boot, kicking at the birds was the best part.

You all need to loosen up a bit, not everything is an attack on your values. Some things are just funny because they are.

I can’t stand the self rightious bastard in real life, why would I wanna see a parody of him?

TheSitRep on June 17, 2008 at 8:13 PM

Looks more like Bill Pulman that it does Stringspeen. FYI didn’t need to see the guy splaying in his tighty whities.

srhoades on June 17, 2008 at 9:47 PM

Better songwriters then Springsteen? Lennon/McCartney, Jagger/Richards, Pete Towsnhend, Ray Davies, Carole King, James Taylor, Robert Plant, Bob Dylan, Jim Morrison, Eric Clapton, etc. etc.

Hilts on June 17, 2008 at 10:26 PM

PETE HULNE AS BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN. I really hope none of you actually think this is Bruce when it even TELLS you it’s not in the video.

Nevertheless it’s fascinating that if this had been given a more ‘republican’ spin most people would’ve been lolling it up at ‘lazy liberals relying on government welfare’ or something, but since it was a video (A SPOOF at that) of Springsteen some people suddenly feel compelled to stick up for the working class man.

Working class man.

Dammit, now I’m thinking of Jimmy Barnes..

And a hat tip to Tommygun. But we shouldn’t expect anything else on such a politics-driven site, I suppose
