Tennessee Democrat: I only said Obama was terrorist connected because I saw it on Fox News

Ace joked on Friday that this too, like the Michelle Obama “whitey” crap, would ultimately be laid at the feet of conservatives. And so it is, my friends, so it is.

Give the guy credit, though. He pissed off enough of the left with what he said that only a master stroke of scapegoating could get him off the hook. And darned if he didn’t come through.

Last week, Tennessee Democratic Party Executive Committee member Fred Hobbs set off a firestorm when he was asked by reporters why “Blue Dog Democrat” Representative Lincoln Davis was delaying his endorsement of Obama, and Hobbs answered,

“I’m not sure we know enough about him. He’s got some bad connections, and he may be terrorist connected for all I can tell. It sounds kind of like he may be.”…

On Monday, Fred Hobbs wrote a letter to the Tennessee Democratic Party Executive Committee in which he apologized for his comments about Obama and blamed Fox News:…

“I was not as well prepared as I should have been when speaking with reporters, and I should have taken more time to research Senator Obama’s positions. My comments did reflect questions I had after what I had seen reported on Fox News, but I should have taken some time to check the accuracy of what I saw on television before speaking publicly. My statement that Senator Obama ‘may be terrorist-connected’ was incorrect, and I apologize for making it.”

Curiously, you won’t find this one mentioned on FightTheSmears.com. Exit question: Is that because they don’t want to call attention to smears being circulated by Democrats, or is it because this one isn’t exactly a smear?

Can Mr. Weasel, er, Mr. Hobbs cite what he “saw” on Fox News that led him to make his statements?

Anyway, if MSNBC ever needs a replacement for Olbermann, Mr. Weasel, er, Mr. Hobbs should apply.

SteveMG on June 17, 2008 at 10:01 PM

That was not a terrorist outfit, that was a black Muslim slavers outfit.

BL@KBIRD on June 17, 2008 at 10:03 PM

He’s got some bad connections, and he may be terrorist connected for all I can tell.

How silly. He only said he would meet with terrorists, unconditionally. There’s a big difference.

labrat on June 17, 2008 at 10:04 PM

Jenny I’d never hurt you; if it weren’t for this war and that lying SOB Johnson.

lorien1973 on June 17, 2008 at 10:04 PM

A moment of clarity

“but I should have taken some time to check the accuracy of what I saw on television before speaking publicly”

Obviously he didn’t.

He shoulda used the satire excuse.

AbaddonsReign on June 17, 2008 at 10:05 PM

And so it begins, conspirator smearers of the
“Vast Left Wing Conspiracy Kaball” acting as
pawns stacking and planting conspirators in
a conspiratorial smearing campaign to act as
political chaos smoke screen!

This stinks and reaks of Team Hillary!

canopfor on June 17, 2008 at 10:08 PM

When in doubt, blame Fox.

Don’t repeat it they will blame you!

BTW, I was admonished on another thread for invoking the middle name of the Obamassiah. I apologized. I hereby rescind that apology, and reserve the right to use the middle name until such time as mister Obama denounces the Nation of Islam and it’s leader, and renounces any involvement with that subversive organization.

labrat on June 17, 2008 at 10:10 PM

BWAHAHAHAHA!!!!

Chakra Hammer on June 17, 2008 at 10:11 PM

Pattern Smearing;
1: Democrat starts ridiculous rumor about Obama et al
2: Entire blogosphere reacts, television just a twitter
3: Wait about seven days and claim the smear originated from conservatives and castigate them in round the clock television coverage

Why would a Dem even trust Faux News in the first place?! Outrageous that he’d be so naive. See? This is what comes of presidential candidates negotiating with that pseudo-network.

I keed.

Hobbs is a fu**ing idiot, but I heard of this thing called reality which reveals that Fox News is the only network retardedly suggesting to the stupid unwashed masses of America that Obama HAS Muslim connections, Fox is the only network that retardedly said “terrorist fist bump”, etc etc.

Dave Rywall on June 17, 2008 at 10:17 PM

I’m only surprised he didn’t blame Bush.

amerpundit on June 17, 2008 at 10:19 PM

Ugh… I don’t have the energy to see if any of those links show even a shred of support for his claim that he heard this on Fox News… can someone just tell me if there is anything to this, or if it appears he just completely made it up?

RightWinged on June 17, 2008 at 10:27 PM

the stupid unwashed masses of America

And of course you are the only person bright enough to see through the lies and smears. ‘Scuse me while I go wash.

Meanwhile the other networks catering to us hicks are busy telling us that Obama is transcendent, that his sleazy personal connections are harmless and that his lack of any executive credential makes him the perfect candidate.

Bishop on June 17, 2008 at 10:31 PM

I’m only surprised he didn’t blame Bush.

amerpundit on June 17, 2008 at 10:19 PM

It’s a default “blame Bush” because everyone knows FOXNews is merely an arm of Bushnazi and Rovenazi.

SouthernGent on June 17, 2008 at 10:34 PM

Does that mean the other networks have failed to report on Obama’s terrorist connections. If Bill Ayers isn’t a terrorist, the word has no meaning.

FIGHT THE SMEAR OF “FIGHT THE SMEAR”

abinitioadinfinitum on June 17, 2008 at 10:53 PM

1) Ayers and Dohrn.
2) I only have to say that because the MSM and the majority of their audience have about 3 seconds of attention span.
3) Everything will be blamed on Republicans, because the MSM is in the tank for the Dems, period.

People will believe the lie like they believe the “selected not elected” lie and the “bush lied” lie, because they hear it from the lying sacks of dung in the MSM every day.

We’re talking about people who know they have a “sacred duty,” and betray it DAILY.

Merovign on June 17, 2008 at 10:56 PM

Well now…. that makes perfect sense. If you’re an idiot.

What’s a Democratic Party Executive Committee member doing watching Fox News?

TheBigOldDog on June 17, 2008 at 11:19 PM

Why would a Democratic Party Executive Committee member believe anything he herd on Fox News when they all claim they are biased and lie?

TheBigOldDog on June 17, 2008 at 11:22 PM

“I’m not sure we know enough about him. He’s got some bad connections, and he may be terrorist connected for all I can tell. It sounds kind of like he may be.”…

On Monday, Fred Hobbs wrote a letter to the Tennessee Democratic Party Executive Committee in which he apologized for his comments about Obama and blamed Fox News:…

THE DEMOCRATS, WHAT A STINKING PANT LOAD…

byteshredder on June 17, 2008 at 11:25 PM

Look there is absolutely no doubt that the MSM will never call Obamamessiah on his connections to TERRORISTS…Ayers is a terrorist.

The Big Goddamn Question is why WON’T supposedly right wing blogs call him on it? Why are all these supposedly rabid right wing blogs playing as if the Ayers connections don’t exist?

Playing like Neo Cons are conservatives was never going to play out well. Now we see it. No one is saying anything for a couple of reaons…white guilt. We mustn’t play hardball with the black man…

And truth is many of these “Neo Cons” used to be left wing and they truly don’t see Ayers as a Terrorist.

Fred Hobbs is a clown but even broken clocks are right twice a day. Obama has connections to terrorists…

PierreLegrand on June 17, 2008 at 11:57 PM

“…isn’t exactly a smear..”? It isn’t a smear at all; it’s the truth. He is connected to terrorists, repeatedly, consciously, directly, undeniably.

Jaibones on June 18, 2008 at 12:00 AM

I’m speechless. Really.

Claypigeon on June 18, 2008 at 12:00 AM

PierreLegrand on June 17, 2008 at 11:57 PM

Ah. There you are.

And you ask a deeply troubling question, Pierre.

Jaibones on June 18, 2008 at 12:01 AM

No one should trust Fox News, they relay misleading reports on a daily basis.
The other day that lovely FOX weather lady Dominca Davis, claimed rain was likely in our area… it did not rain.
And remember the way FOX played snippets, soundbites and youtube clips of that guy… the guy FOX kept saying was a bigtime racist… the one FOX totally took out of context… dang I can’t remember his name but it seems like he has been around for 20 YEARS and I’ve never heard anything racist, you know, he is kind of like a crazy uncle… oh yeah, now I remember… he played Kramer on Sienfeld. Did you notice FOX never played his whole comedy routine, we would only then have really understood the context in which that lunatic shrieked those despicable racist slurs.

So then it is illegal for say…HOT AIR to claim that Obama has connections with terrorists? Why? Is it illegal for Instapundit to say that Obama has connections with terrorists? Bill Hobbs, Captain Ed, all of the Neo Cons at NRO, Weekly Standard, why are most of these folks acting like Fred Hobbs was wrong?

Well, has FOX had anything on the Ayers connection? If so, then I guess his defense is at least plausible. Of course, he should have elaborated a bit on what he meant by “terrorist connected”…

I loathe them however I accept their pedantry for the highly refined art of uber-nuance ill-magnification.

Yeah, I loath them more now.

Claypigeon on June 18, 2008 at 6:20 AM

Will FOX broadcast a complete Fred Hobbs Exposé soon?

@ fightthesmears Obama’s birth certificate is still not documented as the number is censored, not verifiable. If that’s his best “proof” for the record, look out for the storm he brings on America.

maverick muse on June 18, 2008 at 6:55 AM

Hmmm hussein is a friend of terrorists. HA had an article last week about a new friend of hussein’s, but I can’t remember the name now. And the list of hussein’s scummy friends is starting to call out for a scorecard.

dogsoldier on June 18, 2008 at 7:49 AM

The hypocracy is stunning. The double standard is mind boggling. Yet the Dems may actually win the White House.

I’m scared.

cannonball on June 18, 2008 at 8:36 AM

No doubt that we are winning something when we drive our guys out when they show weaknesses….points in the afterlife perhaps. In the larger picture our guys make errors and we drive them from office…we make such a big self-righteous fusses about it that even the bored middle class, if such a thing exists, notices our failings. We drum our OWN guys out of service and instead of being rewarded for being such truth tellers and self righteous bumblers the electorate goes…hmmm must be something to those things the Left says about the right. So then our drummed out of the service guys are replaced by Democrats…and we sit around clucking about how moral we are…while the country goes down the tubes.

The left has folks who actually have friends who were terrorists and they run them for President….and they are leading in the polls…must be a lesson around here somewhere. Each moment of the day we should be screaming from the rooftops that we simply will not allow a candidate who has ties to somone who tried to murder Government officials to run for President. That is exactly what the left would be doing right this very second if the roles were reversed. They are playing for keeps not points.

Sorry for the rant…but the way the right eats their young while ignoring the ACTUAL sins of the left just pisses me off. Witness what is happening right this very second with Derbyshire and LGF attacking Jindal. Pretty soon the purity test for a politician on the right will be so convoluted and impossible that we simply will withdraw out of moral superiority.

PierreLegrand on June 18, 2008 at 8:47 AM

Please

These people can hold entire congressional hearings spun and twisted just to keep pouring the kook aid to the extreme left supporters.

Do you think blowing a soundbite is going to phase them?

CommentGuy on June 18, 2008 at 9:29 AM

Let me paraphrase, “I am a liberal dumbass and I…HEY LOOK…ELVIS” (exit stage right)

PatriotPete on June 18, 2008 at 9:44 AM

When I read the statement by Hobbs’ I immediately thought he was talking about William Ayers, not radical muslims.

Isn’t it true that Obama * is connected with William Ayers? Or, am I mistaken? Or, perhaps people are disputing whether Ayers is a terrorist (I didn’t think that this was refuted, or even possible to refute since he admits his actions and involvement).

Geministorm on June 18, 2008 at 10:44 AM

No doubt this man was taken to the wood shed with serious threats. Obama and his muslim/pixie dust/MSM panties throwing mob are a serious threat. Did they threaten his family? Career? To maybe losing his head?
