New MoveOn ad: Don’t take my baby, John McCain!

posted at 10:06 am on June 17, 2008 by Allahpundit
Share on Facebook | printer-friendly

In which a 90-year-old Maverick, serving his fifth term as president after declaring martial law and suspending the Constitution, conscripts young Alex to walk the beat in Baghdad. Either that or mom here hasn’t yet grasped that (a) President McCain won’t be setting Iraq policy for the next 18 years, let alone the next hundred, (b) MoveOn’s candidate of choice has himself been dropping some dark hints lately about “tactical readjustments,” and (c) whether McCain and the military can have her son is, um, up to her son, not her. The left (or at least the segment that MoveOn represents) still hasn’t quite accepted the idea of a volunteer military. If you enlist, it can only be because you were somehow forced — through a draft or, per Charlie Rangel and Waffles, through economic hardship. No one serves because they want to. Which makes this ad the flip side of liberals wondering why Bush hasn’t “sent” his daughters to war. Mom’s not sending Alex and you can’t “take” him, either, even if he wants to go.

He sure does make a cute human shield for MoveOn, though, doesn’t he? Chuck Todd thinks the ad will backfire. I don’t think anyone will care enough either way.

potfry, if it were about the babies, then the libs would not support abortion.

bloggless on June 17, 2008 at 1:32 PM

Babies, huh Potfry. You mean the ones that the Islamofacists strap with bombs today? Jerk!

RobCon on June 17, 2008 at 1:32 PM

Uh, RobCon. I was joking.

Potfry on June 17, 2008 at 1:37 PM

Every time you think MoveOn has hit bottom, the MoveON goons plunge a new record depth.

Maybe someone should remind the leftists it’s an all volunteer military now.

petefrt on June 17, 2008 at 1:38 PM

I find it remarkable how a 25,30,35 old in the miliary is a child but a 20 year old intern in the Clinton White House is a grown woman who can make her own decisions.

RobCon on June 17, 2008 at 1:39 PM

Helicopter Mommy in training. Good luck with that sport, hope she gets you a dazzling leash.

Geronimo on June 17, 2008 at 1:48 PM

John McCain. Dingo in training.

TheUnrepentantGeek on June 17, 2008 at 1:52 PM

The question isn’t whether McCain get this kid. It’s whether some terrorist bomber does.

njcommuter on June 17, 2008 at 1:53 PM

I wonder if this moonbat mom would want Obama to take her baby to the racist, anti-American TUCC. Maybe Obama could drop this kid off for a weekend at Bill and Bernadine’s home. I find it amazing how the democrat party has come to despise our Military, and everything they stand for. If you decide to join the Military you are treated as if you are pure evil. Our great Country, as well as the World has benefited from these brave young men and women. The sacrificies of these heroes should be a sense of pride for this woman, and should be something she could express to her son as he grows older. Of course she would rather teach her son how to properly spit on the troops instead of honoring these greatest of Americans. Shame on you democrats for your hatred of our troops. You libs make me sick.

chief on June 17, 2008 at 1:57 PM

It’s nice to see that the left believes in the independence of children so much that it encourages them to have sex, have sex changes, have children, have abortion, have as many drugs as they can take, have the right to go to political protests while on the taxpayers dime…

… but the left doesnt’ want those same children to have the right to choose whether or not to join the service.

I guess they aren’t as open-minded as they say they are.

madmonkphotog on June 17, 2008 at 2:03 PM

That commercial is so fake. We all know she would have aborted that kid at 8 months 3 weeks and 6 days after her pregnancy.

Tim Burton on June 17, 2008 at 2:11 PM

Oh Brother. . . . That the dumbest ad of the campaign.

So far. . . .

Texyank on June 17, 2008 at 2:16 PM

John McCain. Dingo in training.

That is one dumb-ass remark . . . or is there some deep philosophical interpretation that we commons simply can’t comprehend?

rplat on June 17, 2008 at 2:42 PM

You can’t even get offended by this. It’s so pathetic with it’s idiotic hyperbole that it’s f’n hilarious.

Pcoop on June 17, 2008 at 2:46 PM

Shameless. And brainless.

Next!

philwynk on June 17, 2008 at 2:49 PM

Pathetic. The only people this will work on are the brainless sheep who have already drank the kool aid.

MOVE ON – and forget the past.

Except, you know, Vietnam.

And anything else the left wants to talk about.

– When the left says “move on,” the mean “talk about only what we want to.” When they say “truth,” they mean “talk about only what we want to.” When they say “justice,” they mean “talk about only what we want to.”

Anyone else see a pattern there?

rplat on June 17, 2008 at 2:42 PM

Ahem.

“The dingo ate your baby.” (In a terrible Aussie accent)

It’s a common joke when someone panders to the image of a baby to represent that there’s some sort of external threat to it. In this case, a President McCain would represent that ‘dingo’ threat, and since the election is still ongoing, he’s only a dingo in training.

James on June 17, 2008 at 2:59 PM

stupid ad.

Chakra Hammer on June 17, 2008 at 3:13 PM

Liberals pander to emotions. They hire an actress and a baby and they try to change the subject. That lady, or the script writer, or MOVEON.ORG (which we all know) don’t have one clue what patriotism is. I’m so happy they prove it with everything they do.

If it’s any comfort, even the Farkers — who are predominantly liberal-leaning — seem to think this was a stupid and ineffectual ad.

aero on June 17, 2008 at 3:20 PM

When that baby is 18, he is joining the Marines, just to get away from that manipulative mom.

right2bright on June 17, 2008 at 10:22 AM

You got that right. And we can all say we knew Gunny when he was in diapers.

Sekhmet on June 17, 2008 at 3:21 PM

Maybe the boy’s talents will change a tad by the time he turns 18?! Like, maybe he’ll develop a talent for standing, free hand, terrorist head shots at 500 yds with open sights?

Wyznowski on June 17, 2008 at 3:31 PM

Maybe the boy’s talents will change a tad by the time he turns 18?! Like, maybe he’ll develop a talent for standing, free hand, terrorist head shots at 500 yds with open sights?

I have been teaching my son how to shoot rifle, shotgun, and pistol. Drives his mother–my ex–absolutely crazy. “Arms are for hugging”, I can hear her say. She could stand-in for this b***h, except she doesn’t make anywhere near as much sense.

My son is considering joining the Navy after graduating from college. Guess that is ok (we are an Army family). But his mother will have nothing to say about it. Except to blame me, of course.

Dingo reference here at about 1:01.

Philosophical meaning?

Not much.

hillbillyjim on June 17, 2008 at 4:07 PM

McCain’s ultimate goal, revenge in South East Asia

Hahaha.

aengus on June 17, 2008 at 4:21 PM

Hey MoveOn, the reason we fight these wars is to make the world safer for future generations, such as that baby. To simply “Hope” that things will “Change” in the world won’t make things safer for that baby.

SoulGlo on June 17, 2008 at 4:31 PM

Wasn’t this the same stuff that was supposed to happen under the reign of W? Strange how it didn’t occur.

How much for the baby.
I want to buy the boy.

AbaddonsReign on June 17, 2008 at 4:32 PM

Yes it was. Vote for John Kerry otherwise W is going to start the draft after the elections. Someone who would want to could dig up all the quotes from the left blogs.

And of course in typical democrat fashion of blaming the republicans for something that is the work of democrats … it was Charlie Rangel who wanted it reinstated.

wise_man on June 17, 2008 at 4:48 PM

I wonder if that was exactly why Casey Sheehan went military…

newton on June 17, 2008 at 1:08 PM

Forgot about that, how about a Sheehan look alike (shudder) holding a baby saying the same thing, then 18 years later a picture of her protesting, with her boy in uniform in the background saying “I died for you, so you can do this…I just wish my sacrifice had more meaning”.

right2bright on June 17, 2008 at 5:19 PM

That’s not her kid.

She’s not even a “mom”.

She’s a paid actress.

Nothing to see here. Move along.

‘Hi, this is Alex, he the first one I’ve carried to term (only 6 more to go)…Papa Soros promised me if I put down the pipe for a week, he would pay my rent for a month. So here I am…Alex’s dad couldn’t be here by my side, because I’m not quite sure who he is…But if you think we’re still going to need people to volunteer for military service in 18 years, you can’t have him…let some other parent do it..wait…You can only collect welfare until they’re 18?!?!? Never mind…’

Nice….

Do they keep stats on the lefts use of cell phones compared to the right?

It might account for the discrepancy in sanity.

-President-For-Life John McCain

N. O'Brain on June 17, 2008 at 7:42 PM

Why does this article not mention the add was funded by MoveOn and AFSCME (American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees)

I can’t believe that with current closed shop laws. If a person wishes to be a Civil Servant, they will be forced to join that union, they will be forced to pay dues to that unuion, and the union can spend a half million dollars running a political ad (and a lame one at that). If there was a bastion of freedom left, I would move there. I fear we stopped being the “home of the free”.

Micheal on June 17, 2008 at 7:43 PM

What a mixed up child. Children having children.
Wouldn’t it be refreshing if McCain would simply answer this ad by saying, “it’ll be up to Alex if he wants to enlist in our All Volunteer military. If he does, he’d be choosing an honorable career in a first rate organization”. (Especially if he chooses the U.S. Army Infantry. And in particular the 1st Infantry Division. Hoo! Rah!) DD

Darvin Dowdy on June 17, 2008 at 8:37 PM

Liberals: stuck on stupid since, like, forever. But you know, there’ll be a lot of people who will fall for this trash, and the GOP won’t respond. We’re doomed.

jdawg on June 17, 2008 at 8:37 PM

It’s sick that she is prostituting her poor child for political purposes. She is trying to become the Cindy Sheehan of 2028.

BDU-33 on June 17, 2008 at 8:53 PM

This is so funny everytime they show it on fox I am laughing out loud when did Move on get into the comedy business? Good Lord the left takes it self way too serious. Although I have to admit this effort gave me a good laugh. Thank You Move On for jumping the sofa, Tom Cruise looks sane now.

Dr Evil on June 17, 2008 at 9:26 PM

You’d think the MoveOn people would at least have the sense to bring out a mom with her fourteen year old kid. It’s a little known fact that some fourteen year old kids aren’t immediately recognizable as evil monsters–especially with all the trick lenses available these days–and would be more convincing props than a newborn.

thuja on June 17, 2008 at 9:28 PM

Oh one more thing who thinks that woman was participating in any activity that produced a baby? I mean the second add that was using far left talking points about Republican’s causes, why not blame Republicans for her lack of a social life..or a life. How much did this woman and her “move on’s idea of a prop” note this baby made it through some woman’s right to choose, get paid for this ahh..add. Everyone knows the leftys don’t like reproduction :)

Dr Evil on June 17, 2008 at 9:32 PM

To Alex’s mom: if you’re so concerned with your boy not having to fight in this war, then I ask the status of your husband. Is he fighting? If so, good on him. Encourage him to fight harder. If he’s physically or mentally unfit to fight, no problem. If he’s fit to fight and isn’t engaged in this war, don’t worry, there are many of us who are picking up his slack. But if you are serious about not wanting your boy to have to fight this enemy, then maybe you should do something meaningful, such as encouraging your husband/significant other to pick up a weapon and join the fight. How about supporting the current war effort rather than calling for surrender? I pray my son won’t have to fight, but I’d rather him fight than live in fear or under tyranny.

jerrytbg on June 17, 2008 at 9:51 PM

Oh man, I can’t believe I used to belong to that group. John McCain “can’t have him”? If John McCain were to win two terms, that baby still wouldn’t be old enough to voluntarily enlist.

“War is an ugly thing, but it’s not the ugliest thing. The decayed and degraded sense of moral and patriotic feeling that feels nothing is worth a war is worse. A man that cares for nothing more than his personal safety is a miserable creature, and is made and kept free by the exercions of better men than himself.”

I would like to see this woman’s pro choice add? This woman is telling you that this child is so precious to to her but ask her what her position on Abortion is? Come on at least on the battle field if Alex ever made it into combat he would trained and have a weapon and a fighting chance. Is this MOVE ON schill going to tell all she is Pro Life? I really doubt it. John McCain would protect Alex before he was born during and after.

Dr Evil on June 17, 2008 at 11:15 PM

So, we’ve gone from “Come back with your shield… or on it” to “You can’t have him.” In a word: pitiful.

A word to Alex: I know you won’t be a momma’s boy when you grow up. Be all you can be man.

faraway on June 18, 2008 at 12:47 AM

Poor baby to get stuck with a mom like that if it is his mom. Alex will have a horrible life of a drama queen liberal mom and her constant whine of wanting the government to help pay her bills, pay off her house, buy her food and tuck her in at night.

Wild Thing on June 18, 2008 at 3:02 AM

You folks are missing something. McCain is running such a horribly stupid campaign, talking about townhall meetings with LaRaza, that this stupid kind of crap could actually make a huge difference. Think I’m wrong? Didn’t this country elect Bill Clinton twice?

Bikerken on June 18, 2008 at 3:13 AM

She didn’t support abortion, but from the way she turned out her parents might feel that way now.

Little kid is going into Comintern Camps per the Obama website

Barack Obama’s Plan
Early Childhood Education

* Zero to Five Plan: Obama’s comprehensive “Zero to Five” plan will provide critical support to young children and their parents. Unlike other early childhood education plans, Obama’s plan places key emphasis at early care and education for infants, which is essential for children to be ready to enter kindergarten. Obama will create Early Learning Challenge Grants to promote state “zero to five” efforts and help states move toward voluntary, universal pre-school.
* Expand Early Head Start and Head Start: Obama will quadruple Early Head Start, increase Head Start funding and improve quality for both.

With B0 as Commander-in-Chief the probability of a military draft increases dramatically. How many would enlist or re-enlist with a CIC who would not support them not to mention a Congress with similar leanings. IE Charlie Rangel

LevStrauss on June 18, 2008 at 2:24 PM

Two things.

One, I’m amazed anybody actually slept with that wackadoo to begin with!

She has that glazed over look in her eyes and a rushed-breathing sound coming out of her like she’s about to go bouncin’-off-the-walls-berserk.

Second, I’m shocked that she actually carried “it” (aka Alex) to term.

Isn’t that what LibRats call an Alex when (they’re not out whoring him for votes and) he’s exiting the birth canal?
An “it”?

They don’t call him Alex, and they damn sure don’t call him a baby! They just call him “it”.

Of course, it’s a election year, so Lil’ Miss MoveOn has *baby* Alex now.
