Flashback video: Rendell rips Obama on “Crackerquiddick”

Ed Rendell has become one of the speculative choices in the media for Barack Obama’s running mate, and so the RNC has decided to remind people about Rendell’s reaction to Obama while he still supported Hillary Clinton. They have sent around a YouTube of Rendell castigating Obama over his remarks in San Francisco when he accused small-town Pennsylvanians specifically, and Midwestern voters generally, of clinging to guns and religion out of bitterness over failed government programs. At the time, Rendell ridiculed Obama’s rapidly-shifting responses to the controversy:
This doesn’t do much for Rendell’s chances to be on the ticket, although he might make a pretty good choice otherwise. Rendell can attract those bitter Rust Belt and Midwestern voters who foolishly cling to their 2nd Amendment rights and their more traditional Savior. Obama has to hold Pennsylvania in the fall, and McCain is making it a close race there. However, Rendell also represents the kind of politics that Obama supposedly opposes, Jim Johnson and Eric Holder notwithstanding, and one suspects that a closer look at Rendell might make that more obvious.
The RNC certainly has had plenty of time to collate all of the criticism issued against Obama by a large number of potential VP choices, and we can expect plenty of YouTubes in the future. That doesn’t mean it will keep Obama from picking former critics; Reagan selected George H. W. Bush even after the “voodoo economics” phrase stuck to Reagan. He knew he could prove it wrong and that Bush would make a good choice as a running mate. The parade of videos should still be entertaining.

Rendell is radioactive. He is on record saying so many politically incorrect things about blacks, women, Hispanics, Jews — you name it. The media would have a field day with him. He also just gave a really half-assed endorsement of Obama yesterday at a Philly fundraiser. It’s clear he is still in the Clinton camp.
Rendell also gives Obama nothing in terms of war/foreign policy cred, and nothing with women except that he was Hillary’s biggest cheerleader.
Put it this way, if Obama picks Ed Rendell, we will know he is in deep doo-doo and behind even in Pennsylvania.

Most Pennsylvanians outside of Pittsburgh, Johnstown and Philthadelphia think Rendell’s a a thug. He’d make Spiro Agnew look like a choir boy.

I can’t see Barak picking a Tammany Hall running mate. Digging up Jimmy Hoffa or Mayor Daley would be like spitting in the faces of all those youngsters he has added to the rolls.

Another Hillary Supporter Taylor Marsh says – Many Hillary supporters can’t see voting for Obama — at least not right now.

Yup. He’s right off the Sopranos.

My first thought is that the rnc should run stuff like this about anyone who is being considered but then I think they may actually drive barry to pick someone who is actually a little bit honorable and decent. They should let hem do his thing on the vp at least until decisions are made. barry is out of touch with reality and has severe delusions of grandeur and left alone will probably pick quite a doozy. When the deed is done, then they should go after him.
But who are we to talk when the rnc is flying a foul little liberal like charlie crist around the country and introducing him as a future leader in this party.

Where is Barrack..??? Your Iowian’s are in great need and your nowhere to be found….didn’t it all start for BO in the great state of Iowa, they loved him there…1st came New Orleans and now comes Barracks Iowa, it has to be a warning..how long can this be considered just another conincidence…Have to say I believe Hillary was more to the center than this guy..if he wins you can thank the Iowian’s for getting it all started..

The RNC made the choice for Reagan. They always used to do that. Reagan went along because Bush and he came to an understanding.

Obama was definitely off on the clingy-religion comment. Religion has never relied on bitterness to keep people under its control. Instead, church leaders favor qualities like insecurity, self-doubt and just plain stupidity to ensure that the coffers are full each week. Bitterness usually occurs once a churchgoer discovers the awful truth about his so-called faith.
DanKenton on June 14, 2008 at 8:47 PM
Not my church’s leaders. What kind of church are you talking about? A cult maybe? Then I could see it.
Obambi needs a Beta male so his own metrosexuality won’t be questioned.

Obama has wide support from Dem Party clowns that disregard his inexperience, his marxist mindset, his numerous contradictions in statements, his America hating wife, his associations with racist America hating clergy, his relationship with Rezko, his ignorance of economics, his lack of any real employment in the private sector, his sense of entitlement, his incredibly naive approach to foreign policy and his arrogance.
Those “endorsers” are waiting for their rewards. Appointments to cabinet positions, Federal Funding of unnecessary pork projects in their locales and tax dollar handouts to continue to buy votes.
What is not to like about that?
old trooper on June 15, 2008 at 9:32 AM
What truth would that be, Pancho? That if I believe in Christ, and try to emulate Him I’ll go to Heaven? Pretty awful, wouldn’t you say? Makes me want to finally go out and buy me a gun to cling to.
Personally, I think Obama needs a Sopranos-type of Veep. After he gets through hugging our enemies, he can be educated on how to conduct a vendetta.

People keep talking about these “pork projects in their locales” and “tax dollar handouts”, but no one ever explains how I can get some of that.
“sigh”

Any one of the three desert dogmas qualifies: Christians, Jews & Muslims.
Right….and when you get there say hi to Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny and the Tooth Fairy for me.
DanKenton on June 15, 2008 at 12:34 PM
Will do, and when you get to your final destination say hi to Adolph, Joseph, and Mr Pot would’a?

Ah, Christianity revealed: Don’t think like us? Enjoy Hell. As previously stated, insecurity, self-doubt and stupidity. Thanks for making my point.
DanKenton on June 15, 2008 at 4:43 PM
Who said anything about hell? Not I. Hitler, Stalin and Pol Pot: Athiests revealed. Wanna tell me about what happend to those who dared disagree with these fine progressives?? Talk about stupid, look no further than yourself
Child In Time on June 15, 2008 at 7:04 PM
LOL…you must have been referring to Disneyland instead? As far as Hitler (raised devout Roman Catholic & never a self-proclaimed Atheist), Stalin (didn’t he attend Seminary?) and Pot are most assuredly hanging out with David Koresh, Jim Jones and, my favorite young believer Timothy McVeigh. Sorry buddy, being a Christian is hardly a guarantee for becoming a model citizen.
DanKenton on June 15, 2008 at 10:51 PM
Jokes on you pal, of course you probably already know that much. Obviously real history isn’t your strong point.
Hitler renounced christianity in his little diatribe Miene Kompf. His #2 henchman, Himmler, described Jesus as the bastard son of a jewish whore. Devout?
Stalin bulldozed churches and sent the clergy to the Gulags; problably what you and your enlightened ilk would like to do here.
Isn’t it past your bedtime? Gotta get up early to beat up a nun or somthin” huh
Child In Time on June 15, 2008 at 11:30 PM
Real history? From a Christian’s perspective you mean? You’re a typical cherry-picking Christian who samples from fictional-history and mythology. Your precious fairy tale has you worshiping some desert transient who was somehow the son, uh..sorry, I mean human-God whose name and birthdate were changed for better marketing. And after all of the new-testament hoopla (Chapter 2 in the big book of brainwashing) how do you honor your fallen hero? By erecting crosses…sometimes with him even hanging off of them. Just think, if jeebus lived in the 20th century, your little token of worship would be an electric chair!!
Face it, your religion (30,000 different versions worldwide and counting) is nothing more than money-laundering, crowd control and death worship whose tome is the world’s greatest plagiarism. But, if it keeps you from going postal on someone then keep on worshiping my weak-minded brother. Sadly though that wasn’t enough for Koresh, Jones and McVeigh.
DanKenton on June 16, 2008 at 1:23 AM
You didn’t answer his question, Dan. You told a lie about and Hitler being a Christian (”raised” as one doesn’t count, it’s a personal experience). And then ignored his question. You people keep trying to claim Hitler was a Christian, but his own words prove you have no knowledge.
As for going postal, I’m pretty sure people who murder others don’t have “love for their fellow man in their heart”, which is the very first result of accepting Jesus. If you don’t have it, you don’t have Christ in you.
Atheists most definitely don’t have love for their fellow man. Atheists usually hate everyone else (your posts positively drip hatred), not always, but usually. Atheists always think they are trying to do good, showing others how the world would be better if only everyone would agree with them. But in the end, atheists only try to tear others down.
Most definitely they never try to help people. I’m sure you’ve gone to the “Atheist Memorial Hospital”, right? Or contributed to the “Atheist Children’s Fund”?
Squiggy on June 16, 2008 at 6:37 AM
Lie? What lie? Hitler WAS RAISED Roman Catholic. Stalin DID ATTEND seminary. These are facts, not myths like the ones found in the bible. As far as his [Child's] question goes, isn’t it a bit rhetorical? Of course those that disagreed with the powers at large were summarily executed. Their fate was the same as those poor folks in Waco Texas or those funny little jeebus freaks with the purple Nikes. The Grim Reaper smiled at all of them. Now, you’re a Christian, weak and ignorant, so it doesn’t surprise me that this is the best comeback in your book. For the record, you believe the world is 6,000 years old and that Noah was somehow able to get dinosaurs onto a wooden barge and keep them from eating each other and Noah himself. You believe in a concept called immaculate conception that I bet a whole lot of deadbeat daddies would like to try out in court and, best of all, you think everyone is born with a suitcase full of sin even though your desert doofus supposedly died for our collective ills.
BUT…(here comes the money shot)…you Christians, champions of tolerance without judgment, instantly label me and anyone who dissents from your fear-laden blabbering as Atheists!!!! I never said I was an Atheist…nobody every bothered to even ask me…you know, benefit of the doubt and all that stuff. Did it ever occur to you that I could be Agnostic? A Deist? How about a Hindu? Maybe a Buddhist? NEVER!!! WHY???? Because in the world of fear and Jeebus, Christians don’t tolerate non-Christians. Everyone else is going to someplace that isn’t heaven but I won’t call it Hell because you whimps won’t cop to it as previously shown. Christians are the most, hands-down, no doubt about it, intolerant scum to ever walk the earth. More blood has been spilled in the name of your funny little carpenter than by each and every non-Christian, oh, excuse me, Atheist, combined. But, it gets better, Christians themselves can’t get along with each other so the tribe has splintered into 30,000-plus subsets which has resulted in jeebus war with one other. Kind of like bratty kids fighting over who daddy likes best, i.e. , “my jeebus is better than your jeebus”…..or “ewww…he likes to marry multiple wives….jeebus won’t like that!”
So, for the record, I didn’t lie. Try to follow along you putz. I understand though…after following your fairy tale faith for so long it must be hard to understand plain, ordinary, Atheistic English…or heresy as you would put it.
DanKenton on June 16, 2008 at 4:06 PM
I do? You go to much effort to prove you didn’t lie, then you lie. I’m a scientist, Dan. That doesn’t rule out God, no matter what your hate-filled brain thinks.
As for Stalin attending seminary, I don’t know, but I’ll assume you’re telling the truth (I’ve studied Marxism, but not Stalin in particular). So what? Madelyn Murray O’Hare raised her son to be an atheist. So by your logic, even though he’s a Christian evangelist, he’s an atheist. This makes about as much sense as you hating people who wish nothing but the best for you (and tell you up front it’s your choice to take it or not). And you’re frightened of this. Go figure.
