I think that it's just wonderful that enviros have discovered Christianity.

What's next? Saying that unborn children have value? (Shh... *whispers* that's in the Bible too.)

The Bible says that we are to be stewards of the land.

A steward is one who cares for the land, in the place of his master. A steward has a second responsibility. To maximize the return on his masters investment. (As is demonstrated in the parable of the talents)

Many of the left/environmentalists, want us to believe that taking care of the land means not disturbing it in any way shape or form. Nothing could be further from the truth, as a full reading of the Bible demonstrates.

PS: I love the way liberals like to take small portions of the Bible, completely out of context and pretend that they have proven a point.

Sounds tough. My kids are 9 and 11. So far, I pretty much control what they hear. Soon, I will have to lock them in :)

I made it sound as if my son is included in the "Liberal" portion of the comment. Thankfully, that is not the case; but is the case with most of the college kids that come here. My son (oldest, as the youngest is 16) is a solid member of the young Republicans club at MSU-Bozeman, and loves to bring his Liberal minded friends down to our place for some good food and an education in Liberalism, a mental disorder... It's our duty; it's our contribution; it's not much, but is a worthy cause none the less...

Sorry if my post is redundant, but ref: GENESIS 8:20-22. And, for an additional OT OT (Old Testament, off-topic) read on to chaper 9, verse 6, which addresses capital punishment. How does the "good" professor view that?

Interesting how he is completely wrong and completely twists the words of the Bible.

I can use his methods and teach how the Bible has an "intense interest" in my Vikings finally winning the superbowl. That claim is just as credible as his and just as unworkable by man.

The Bible is not to be consulted in support of what most understand as "tradtional values," but danged if it ain't pushed under the spotlight when it can be conscripted into supporting the liberal cause de jure.

<blockquote><strong>The rainbow is explicitly a sign that God will not destroy the earth again</strong> and the hope that humankind can live in harmony with natural world. --- Stephen B. Chapman</blockquote>

I beginning to think Stephen B. Chapman, associate professor of the Old Testament at Duke University, has never read the Bible. He must be getting all his information about the Bible from some strange New-Age website, because what he says above is dead WRONG.

The Rainbow is God's token of the covenant that He will not destroy the earth again <strong>by water</strong>. Somehow professor Chapman manages to overlooked that little detail.

Professor Chapman, you obviously need to get a copy of your own Bible and read it for yourself. Stop relying on the study guide hand-outs from Duke University because they are not reliable.

<blockquote>11. And I will establish my covenant with you; neither shall all flesh be cut off any more <strong>by the waters of a flood;</strong> neither shall there any more be a flood to destroy the earth.

12. And God said, This [is] the token of the covenant which I make between me and you and every living creature that [is] with you, for perpetual generations:

13. I do set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be for a token of a covenant between me and the earth.

<a href="http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Genesis%209%20;&version=9;" rel="nofollow">Genesis 9</a></blockquote>

Try actually reading the Bible Professor Chapman and you will see that all of these silly New-Age ideas you espouse are just nonsense and not Biblical in the slightest.

<blockquote>Haven’t heard much about the project since it failed but I’m pretty sure the structure is still standing in the Arizona desert. </blockquote>

Yeah, it's about 20 miles up the road from the apartment. They do some sort of research there, but mostly it's a tourist stop. Not sure why anyone would want to stop though.

Good points, all...

I do believe it remains important to point out such hypocrisy though; esp. to the young people who visit my home and seem to be so willing to be spoon fed pure bullshit coming from professors and the environment surrounding most college towns across America. Case in point..

My son and his buddies love to come down to our place on weekends; get some home cooked meals, and hang out while recharging their human batteries. They come down here once or twice a month. With each visit, they love to bring their Liberal talking points (disguised as evidence) to the table and get into healthy and meaningful debate with my wife and I. We generally listen to their thoughts, make notes, and then bring them upstairs to the office and destroy their talking points with hard evidence provided by the internet. It's amazing how these young people are so influenced by their surroundings. It's amazing how Liberalism controls academia in this country, and our government allows for such complete control to go unabated. This dynamic makes the whole "fairness doctrine" such a joke. Liberals control every portion of the media with the exception of talk radio and the internet; so they invent this thing called the fairness doctrine so that they can destroy opposing argument.

<blockquote>Biblical imagery is all over the news these days — even including a story last week of a New York baby being enwrapped by a snake in its crib, harking back to evil lurking in the Garden of Eden.</blockquote>

Evil abounds alright, its signified by the interminable human stupidity and superstition of chicken little syndrome, in this instance the tool used to create a control benefit is religion.

<blockquote>Keemo on June 14, 2008 at 10:11 AM</blockquote>

Is it really anything more than believing that "the ends justify the means"?

Gore, et. al. can be hypocritical because their intentions for everyone else are "pure." (I'm sure we'd find some examples on our side too.)

(There really is nothing new under the sun. I've had occasion to believe many times before that God has a sense of humor. Now I'm beginning to realize that he likes to watch re-runs.)

You can point out Gore's hypocrisy, but it can't be the sole or winning strategy. You just have to outlast the fool. They survive on a "willing suspension of disbelief."

He and his minions are the kinds that are temporarily famous, and then fade into complete oblivion, like aging Hollywood stars or political frauds.

True prophets seem to be so often reviled in their own time.

You can point out Gore’s hypocrisy, but it can’t be the sole or winning strategy. You just have to outlast the fool. They survive on a “willing suspension of disbelief.”

He and his minions are the kinds that are temporarily famous, and then fade into complete oblivion, like aging Hollywood stars or political frauds.

True prophets seem to be so often reviled in their own time.

There is one historical event which I have not seen mentioned in this war of words - Biosphere II.

In the late 80s, there was a project called Biosphere II in the desert near Oracle AZ. It was a glass-and-steel geodesic dome type structure designed to be a sealed environment. It was to contain a representative selection of earth environments and several humans who would be sealed inside for several months (I think the original goal was two years). I think it was a test-prototype for a self-contained manned space station.

There was no direct interaction between the inside and the outside. Everything needed for survival was inside.

The project failed because CO2 levels rose too high for the humans to survive. No matter what the project managers did, they could not stop the CO2 rise nor figure out why their plans didn't predict it.

Haven't heard much about the project since it failed but I'm pretty sure the structure is still standing in the Arizona desert.

I bet that the absolute conviction that these fanatics have about CO2 being evil is directly connected to this spectacular failure. They were crushed by the failure (heck, even I was rooting for it to succeed) and it did something to their minds.

Integrity in the Balance
Bill Mesler reports on Gore's broken promises on a toxic Ohio waste incinerator.

For thousands of years, the Kitanemuk Indians made their home in the Elk Hills of central California. Come February 2001, the last of the 100 burial grounds, holy places and other archaeological sites of the Kitanemuks will be obliterated by the oil drilling of Occidental Petroleum Company. Oxy's plans will "destroy forever the evidence that we once existed on this land," according to Dee Dominguez, a Kitanemuk whose great grandfather was a signatory to the 1851 treaty that surrendered the Elk Hills.

Occidental's planned drilling of the Elk Hills doesn't only threaten the memory of the Kitanemuk. Environmentalists say a rare species of fox, lizard and the kangaroo rat would also be threatened by Oxy's plans. A lawsuit has been filed under the Endangered Species Act. But none of that has given pause to Occidental or the politician who helped engineer the sale of the drilling rights to the federally-owned Elk Hills. That politician is Al Gore.

Gore recommended that the Elk Hills be sold as part of his 1995 "Reinventing Government" National Performance Review program. Gore-confidant (and former campaign manager) Tony Cohelo served on the board of directors of the private company hired to assess the sale's environmental consequences. The sale was a windfall for Oxy. Within weeks of the announced purchase Occidental stock rose ten percent.

That was good news for Gore. Despite controversy over Dick Cheney's plans to keep stock options if elected, most Americans don't know that we already have a vice president with oil company stocks. Before the Elk Hills sale, Al Gore controlled between $250,000-$500,000 of Occidental stock (he is executor of a trust that he says goes only to his mother, but will revert to him upon her death). After the sale, Gore began disclosing between $500,000 and $1 million of his significantly more valuable stock.

Nowhere is Al Gore's environmental hypocrisy more glaring than when it comes to his relationship with Occidental. While on the one hand talking tough about his "big oil" opponents and waxing poetic about indigenous peoples in his 1992 book "Earth in the Balance," the Elk Hills sale and other deals show that money has always been more important to Al Gore than ideals.

Quote from lorien1973 on June 13, 2008 at 10:35 PM:

<blockquote>Global warming has been just a religion for a long time.</blockquote>

Response from labrat on June 13, 2008 at 10:43 PM

<blockquote>Yes. The Greeks called it Gaia or earth worship.

We call it environmentalism, and Gore is the new high priest.</blockquote>

Exactly — nature worship is the first form of religion the world ever knew. It goes back hundreds of thousands of years.

The Biblical version of "social justice" did <em>not</em> come through government programs of taking from one to give to another (<em>after</em> skimming the cream off of the top).
And there is <strong>nothing</strong> in there about ecology. "Intense interest" my foot.

The great flood, Sodom and Gomorrah, Walls of Jericho, "let the mountains fall on us", "swallowed up by the earth", Israel and Judah sparing for survival without success when evil, Book of Revelation--references for destruction of evil people not really crop based.

Dream interpretations were prophecies of harvests that were not necessarily linked with righteous or evil dynasties. None the less, when in drought, the faithful do pray for rain from God's mercy.

Global warming is BS of the worst order. Link from Drudge and read KUSI news San Diego: Global Warming and the Price of a Gallon of Gas by John Coleman.

Funny how the Liberals like to use the lack of scientific knowledge in the past to ridicule the Christian church as superstitious, yet they wish to drag the Christian church into their own lack of science when it comes to the global warming superstition.

Here is the truth folks; lock, stock, & barrel...

http://www.kusi.com/weather/colemanscorner/19842304.html

Taster:

Global Warming and the Price of a Gallon of Gas
by John Coleman

You may want to give credit where credit is due to Al Gore and his global warming campaign the next time you fill your car with gasoline, because there is a direct connection between Global Warming and four dollar a gallon gas. It is shocking, but true, to learn that the entire Global Warming frenzy is based on the environmentalist’s attack on fossil fuels, particularly gasoline. All this big time science, international meetings, thick research papers, dire threats for the future; all of it, comes down to their claim that the carbon dioxide in the exhaust from your car and in the smoke stacks from our power plants is destroying the climate of planet Earth. What an amazing fraud; what a scam.

The future of our civilization lies in the balance.

That’s the battle cry of the High Priest of Global Warming Al Gore and his fellow, agenda driven disciples as they predict a calamitous outcome from anthropogenic global warming. According to Mr. Gore the polar ice caps will collapse and melt and sea levels will rise 20 feet inundating the coastal cities making 100 million of us refugees. Vice President Gore tells us numerous Pacific islands will be totally submerged and uninhabitable. He tells us global warming will disrupt the circulation of the ocean waters, dramatically changing climates, throwing the world food supply into chaos. He tells us global warming will turn hurricanes into super storms, produce droughts, wipe out the polar bears and result in bleaching of coral reefs. He tells us tropical diseases will spread to mid latitudes and heat waves will kill tens of thousands. He preaches to us that we must change our lives and eliminate fossil fuels or face the dire consequences. The future of our civilization is in the balance.

With a preacher’s zeal, Mr. Gore sets out to strike terror into us and our children and make us feel we are all complicit in the potential demise of the planet.

Here is my rebuttal. Read the link...
