Everywhere else I read that Obama’s election would be the righteous culmination of the entire civil rights movement…because of the color of his skin.

No one can seem to come up with any other reason to vote for him, so I’m guessing he’s happy about being black just now, unlike his wife.

Jaibones on June 13, 2008 at 6:13 PM
Liberal are sticking to one of their principles--Identity Politicking--as you mention above.

It'd be nice to see conservatives stick to their principles, rather than point to Liberals and say "why should I be color-blind when Libs aren't being that way?"

Another typical moderate. Just can't seem to make up his mind. I'm actually really surprised he's not on Mac's wagon, probably still pissed Mac didn't leave the Republican party or apply enough pressure on Kerry to be Veep in 2004.

C'mon Powell, flip a coin like a real moderate. Make everybody happy!

Powell is the man who was given credit for Schwartzkopf's accomplishments. Why, I never did know. He did very little, other than (as as been pointed out) selling us to the UN. Why he was ever popular I do not know.

Ha. Apparently you've confined your news sources to this page. Everywhere else I read that Obama's election would be the righteous culmination of the entire civil rights movement...because of the color of his skin.

No one can seem to come up with any other reason to vote for him, so I'm guessing he's happy about being black just now, unlike his wife.

Asked whether he thought it was a difficult choice, he said: “I think so. Yes.”

Typical Powell response with one finger testing the wind, absent any willingness to fully commit to anyone in public in case the wind changes direction.

Powell (IMHO) often displayed discomfort and lack of enthusiam for people employing him. This pose is normally the game of teenagers, who disagree with their parents but are under their dominion. Teens grow up and gain liberty. Powell was already grown up, and no one was making him eat dirt except himself. Retired officers get a pretty good pension.

I once saw Powell display great enthusiasm when, on camera, he entered the State Department to take command in the war between State and the White House, and the pampered princes of the State Dpartment, the well coifed ivy league specialists, displayed their rapture at his presence.

The same idiots who helped destabilize Yugoslavia saw their kindred in Powell. That was a wake up.

It would have been better for Powell/Armitage to resign, same as McClellan (though the latter is just a tiny and insignifican weasel in the big scheme).

Entelechy on June 13, 2008 at 1:48 PM

That is why Powell is no Zell Miller. Miller quit for principle.

In any other election match up, I might care who Powell endorses; Not because I have more than 2% respect for Powell Vs. 98% disdain... But because of the Mediocrats™ who think he is the greatest thing since Monday Night Football and American Idol(Idle)that would follow his endorsement when they step in the voting booth.

The thing is, he would make a great strategic pick for either candidate's VP.

Since y'all keep telling me that, electorally, conservatives don't matter any more and the lefties don't matter all that much; the great mediocrity that is Powell would improve EITHER candidate's chances with the only voter segment that apparently matters anymore: Those that don't believe in anything enough to get out of the center of the highway, The Great American Middle.

And were it not for the fact that Mrs. Powell won't permit him to do so; I wouldn't be a bit surprised if he was offered, and accepted the VP offer from EITHER guy.

Another guy who repaid Bush's loyalty with treachery - he sat on the information that it was Richard Armitage who "outed" Valerie Plame. If it were not the color of his skin , would Powell ever have risen as high as he did?

He, like all the minorities are going for the brotha no matter what the consequences. Cry me a river when it all hits the fan and everyone's taxed right back into the ghetto.

“Both of them certainly have the qualifications to be the president of the United States, but both of them cannot be,” he said…

I'm guessing he will go for the O... he has the Obamessiah's flair for being able to say in one sentence something that is patently untrue and at the same time stunningly obvious.

I will vote for the individual I think that brings the best set of tools...

He should vote for Obama. There are plenty of tools in Obama's wake, but his administration will still be better stocked than your average hardware store.
