I work in the oil industry. Business in the search for oil is booming because we can now get enough money for it to get the harder deposits out of the ground,ocean, but there is a dramatic shortage of drilling platforms and equipment today, so we couldn’t fix this problem overnight anyway. But drilling here and now is the solution, while we are researching new ways to be more efficient in energy production.

Thanks for your input subsunk, it’s good to get a perspective from someone that works in the industry.

I do have a question for you that I’d like your perspective on. While I completely agree we need to start opening more areas in the US for oil exploration and drilling so we import less oil from nations that hate us and are bending us over, isn’t there currently a lack of refining capacity in the US as well?

It’s my understanding the US hasn’t built a new refinery in over 30 years (thanks to the envir-nuts) so even if we pulled more of our own oil out of the ground (which I’m all for) with a shortage of refining capacity how will this alleviate the high cost of gasoline if the oil just sits there and can’t be refined in order to increase gas supplies to meet or exceed demand and thus drive down costs?

I look forward to your (or anyone’s) input, thanks in advance.

If there were lines then yes I would expect him to wait in line like others Americans. Anyone old enough to remember the gas lines of the 70′s, which sometimes went for blocks, should know that if he cut to the front of the line someone would probably run him over or shoot him.

Speaking of lines going for blocks, most folks would not care much if they had to pay 6 or 7 bucks a gallon if it meant avoiding those.

$82, Mr. Norris? I tank up for that, get well over 100 miles additional on that tank of gas with my 3.0 liter 6 banger (which moves the Camry spiffily enough, thank you) and can eat a full steak dinner on the difference.

These monster Pickups and SUVs have been ridiculous for the last decade. The vast majority never seeing anything but highway driving, almost never carry more than 5 people, and the pickup beds never see anything but the stray toolbox and landscape plant. Safe in a collison? I hope so, because they have the basic maneuverability that an Abrams M1A1 tank puts to shame. Tend to roll over at double the rate, through.

Sorry, but I- as no tree-hugger but a proud Goldwater conservative- want to hear no whining about gas prices from people who made poor personal choices in transport, use them unwisely and who now will be lucky to get the resale value of scrap weight for them.
