Chuck Norris kicks Congress

posted at 8:00 am on June 13, 2008 by Ed Morrissey

Well, not literally, despite how amusing that might be. Chuck Norris pulled into the pump and didn’t like what he saw. He gives a menacing look and a fist to the camera, but not before he gives Newt Gingrich and his American Solutions a plug for their Drill Here, Drill Now, Pay Less campaign:

Is it me, or does Chuck look less menacing with the dark glasses and the cap and the clean-shaven face? Regardless, he’s giving Congress some good advice, and advice they may be ready to heed. Roy Blunt sent out a press release pointing out that Reps. Steny Hoyer and Rahm Emanuel have acknowledged the need to boost domestic oil production:

Hoyer: So this is not a question where we have not authorized drilling. We’re for that. We want to find more product…[I]t ought to be incentive to look for new product and to explore and to drill and to get new product to the market, which would then bring the price down.

While this same concession has been made by Cong. Rahm Emmanuel (D-Il.) – who said we need “more production,” and even Senator Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) who stated that Democrats aren’t “against any domestic oil production” – today’s pronouncement stands in sharp contrast to what Speaker Nancy Pelosi has oft said: “We cannot drill our way out of this.”

Maybe there’s hope after all, or perhaps it’s just fear of Chuck Norris. I’d take either if it means we can finally start acting like adults and take responsibility for our own energy needs, rather than begging other nations to drill more so that we can ignore our own vast resources.

Norris isn’t the only one they need to fear if they insist on running our country into the toilet.

Will John Muhammad McCain heed to Norris advise?

Will John Muhammad McCain the coward, the traitor, stop saying that he’s a Conservative and be a “straight-talker?”

Will John Muhammad McCain acknowledge that he’s an accomplice to the Saudis, the Muslim terrorists and the “tree huggers?”

No, he will not admit that he’s a liberal because he’s a “straight-talker,” he’s too honest to admit that he’s an SOB.

Norris said he shaved because he is taking his kids to Disney and they asked him to shave so they can enjoy the trip without being recognized all the time.

Great video!

Great, the Democrat leadership (ex Pelosi) is getting out ahead of the Republican nominee on the need to drill. I love it when their sense of electoral self-preservation starts to kick in.

Maybe we can get Lindsey Grahamnesty to whisper something in McCain’s ear.

Just how stupid do you have to be to believe drilling isn’t a major part of the solution to the energy shortage? The laws of physics and supply and demand cannot be repealed, even by the stupid, do nothing, “Nero fiddles while America burns” Congress. I work in the oil industry. Business in the search for oil is booming because we can now get enough money for it to get the harder deposits out of the ground, ocean, but there is a dramatic shortage of drilling platforms and equipment today, so we couldn’t fix this problem overnight anyway. But drilling here and now is the solution, while we are researching new ways to be more efficient in energy production.

However, research into pie in the sky methods (and based on the laws of physics, until we get shipments of the stuff from Titan and Ganymede, that includes hydrogen technology, folks), and pollyannaish predictions of 100 mpg vehicles is stupidity. Unless you all want to drive to work at 70 mph in a paper sack that provides no protection to a crash, we ain’t gonna get there from here in a thousand years. Research the stuff that improves efficiencies, not trashes the whole infrastructure in favor of unproven and uneconomical technologies. If solar and wind were economical, they’d be the first items used. Nuclear is economical. Get with it. Wind has a huge backlog of work and equipment takes over 18 months to get to your turbine in the assembly line just because that is how much work they have right now. So it is going as fast as it can right now anyway. Solar costs more to make than to use.

So stop being global warming and environmental idiots and start drilling. (When was the last time you saw headlines about a bad oil spill due to drilling or anything other than pipeline leaks and ship collisions/groundings? And those have all been minor spills for the last several years. A damn long time.)

When laws get made that follow the physical world instead of trying to make gasoline out of hot air (sorry, couldn’t resist it), then we will truly have solutions for the people of America to carry on making a living for their families.

I hate Congresscritters. Cowards. Every damn one of ‘em.

Hoyer and Emmanuel are full of crap. I would like to see a list of the congressional votes on ANWR and off-shore drilling. Bold white print on a jet black background, scrolling slowly, one after the other.

All showing the number votes with 95% of the GOP votes for drilling and exploration, and 95% of the Dem votes against.

From JOsh Gerstein today in the New York Sun:

Mr. McCain also lashed out at the oil industry, which is the target of intense hostility from Americans confronting higher gas prices.

“I am very angry, frankly, at the oil companies not only because of the obscene profits they’ve made but at their failure to invest in alternate energy to help us eliminate our dependence on foreign oil,” the senator said. “They’re making huge profits and that happens, but not to say, ‘We’re in this so we can over time eliminate America’s dependence on foreign oil,’ I think is an abrogation of their responsibilities as citizens.”

I read this and don’t know whether to laugh, cry or scream over McCain constantly telling other people they’re “out of touch with reality.” He can’t even understand that oil companies are in the oil business.

Who the hell says it’s the oil companies’ job to invest in alternative energy?

“You expect this man to wait in a ration line?”

Well, yes, being he like so many others long ago bought into the faux testosterone (which he definitely doesn’t need!) of driving around in a massively excessive gas guzzler.

$82, Mr. Norris? I tank up for that, get well over 100 miles additional on that tank of gas with my 3.0 liter 6 banger (which moves the Camry spiffily enough, thank you) and can eat a full steak dinner on the difference.

These monster Pickups and SUVs have been ridiculous for the last decade. The vast majority never seeing anything but highway driving, almost never carry more than 5 people, and the pickup beds never see anything but the stray toolbox and landscape plant. Safe in a collison? I hope so, because they have the basic maneuverability that an Abrams M1A1 tank puts to shame. Tend to roll over at double the rate, through.

Sorry, but I- as no tree-hugger but a proud Goldwater conservative- want to hear no whining about gas prices from people who made poor personal choices in transport, use them unwisely and who now will be lucky to get the resale value of scrap weight for them.

If there were lines then yes I would expect him to wait in line like others Americans. Anyone old enough to remember the gas lines of the 70′s, which sometimes went for blocks, should know that if he cut to the front of the line someone would probably run him over or shoot him.

Speaking of lines going for blocks, most folks would not care much if they had to pay 6 or 7 bucks a gallon if it meant avoiding those.

Thanks for your input subsunk, it’s good to get a perspective from someone that works in the industry.

I do have a question for you that I’d like your perspective on. While I completely agree we need to start opening more areas in the US for oil exploration and drilling so we import less oil from nations that hate us and are bending us over, isn’t there currently a lack of refining capacity in the US as well?

It’s my understanding the US hasn’t built a new refinery in over 30 years (thanks to the envir-nuts) so even if we pulled more of our own oil out of the ground (which I’m all for) with a shortage of refining capacity how will this alleviate the high cost of gasoline if the oil just sits there and can’t be refined in order to increase gas supplies to meet or exceed demand and thus drive down costs?

I look forward to your (or anyone’s) input, thanks in advance.
