Video: Time mag editor blames conservative bloggers for Michelle Obama rumor

posted at 3:48 pm on June 12, 2008 by Allahpundit

Via Matt Lewis, behold Jay Carney, the only Internet user in America who doesn’t know that true blue Hillary stooge Larry Johnson was the prime mover behind the “whitey” nonsense. What’s the best part of this? The fact that it came during a segment devoted to lamenting all the unfair accusations being leveled during this campaign? The fact that Carney inexplicably goes out of his way to repeat the substance of the “whitey” rumor, something the boss was too ethical to do during her appearance on Fox yesterday? Or the fact that it comes on a day when even Kos is crediting National Review with helping to debunk Johnson’s lies? Congrats, Jay: You’ve out-nutrootsed the nutroots.

Update: Good point in the comments from Seixon:

Anyone else reeling at Mitchell and another journalist criticizing the practice of circulating rumors, when that’s practically all they do all day long? What about the crazy-important meeting between Clinton and Obama, where every source except for FOX News was circulating a rumor, and basing themselves off of it in placing personnel, on the location of the meeting?

If this stupid video/recording doesn’t exsist…. why is the obama campain worried?

upinak on June 12, 2008 at 3:52 PM

I question this chump’s GRAVITAS.

As in: “Does this chump have any GRAVITAS?”

Answer: No.

benrand on June 12, 2008 at 3:52 PM

Oh, obviously. I mean, it couldn’t have been Hilly’s Myrmidons…

You’ve out-nutrootsed the nutroots.

First time those words and non-words have appeared in the same sentence evah.

Wasn’t Larry Johnson the guy that had Karl Rove indicted, arrested, and on his way to prison? He had the scoop on Rove. He doesn’t very rightwing.

RBMN on June 12, 2008 at 4:04 PM

Johnson sourced the allegation to Republicans, and in classic CIA counter-intelligence fashion, has succeeded in placing the blame on them for the rumor.

Good job, Larry, your trade craft still works on the weak of mind.

Ngggggh. The media is as introspective as Obama. In other words, little to none.

Seixon on June 12, 2008 at 4:04 PM

PMSNBC remains in a low-class of their own, with Andrea among the most pathetic of those who call themselves national journalists.

Jaibones on June 12, 2008 at 4:05 PM

I want a pretty pony–I called this from the first time I heard that Larry Johnson was floating this rumor. Johnson and the dem campaigns set up what they thought was a brilliant trap, and conservatives refused to spring it.

But they put so much effort into it they want to see if they can use it anyway.

Conservatives need to just mock this crap mercilessly. It’s exactly like that NYTimes reporter asking McCain why he was so angry when he was standing next to her in total quiet and calm.

I read Time in college and it seemed OK. Then I picked it up again ten years later and tossed in it the trash. Self serving party rag.

Hening on June 12, 2008 at 4:16 PM

Glorified info-pimps, all. This kind of calumny is becoming so commonplace it hardly rises to the level of a proper fisking any more.

spmat on June 12, 2008 at 4:18 PM

It can’t be easy to be that ignorant.

drjohn on June 12, 2008 at 4:22 PM

What do you expect from a 14 year old editor? Oh, and has anyone seen the Time cover about the troops?

Yep. That’s the guy!

Seixon on June 12, 2008 at 4:32 PM

Why was this guy listening to Rush?

Les in NC on June 12, 2008 at 4:34 PM

C’mon, Andrea Mitchell doesn’t spend her entire day repeating rumors. She spends at least some of her day insulting Americans who are unlike her (as when she recently called residents of S.W. Virginia a bunch of rednecks, and was later forced to issue an apology).

In the Time article, it says Obama’s campaign knew about the rumors since April.

Larry Johnson went public with his knowledge of the rumors in May.

So I don’t know if its prudent to blame it on him.

IreneFingIrene on June 12, 2008 at 4:38 PM

We knew this would happen as soon as the general election was on.

Every Messiah-seeking missile the Clintonistas threw at Obambi will now be attributed to evil republicans, conservative blogs and talk show hosts.

It’s coming. And often. Say it over, and over, and over again. There, it’s a fact now.

How many elections cycles have we played this game?

IreneFingIrene on June 12, 2008 at 4:38 PM

Obama’s campaign may have known about it since April- but virtually no one else did until Larry Johnson (serial fabricator) posted it, with details of the alledged tape.

The right wing blogs that the shameless liar from Time accuses of spreading the rumors all based their comment on Johnson’s article, and for the most part were very skeptical- including here at HA.

Almost everyone who’s read about this rumor on blogs- right or left- knows where the rumor started, and that’s with liberal Hillary supporter Larry Johnson.

Hollowpoint on June 12, 2008 at 5:15 PM

Boy, andrea is very sure of herself. “it didn’t happen, it won’t happen.” That doesn’t sound like news reporting to me.

peacenprosperity on June 12, 2008 at 5:33 PM

Why was this guy listening to Rush?

To know what facts he needed to try to refute.

peacenprosperity on June 12, 2008 at 5:35 PM

Clearly it’s an all-out effort to Hush Rush before November

ToddonCapeCod on June 12, 2008 at 5:58 PM

We are the cause of all things bad…that is just the way it is for lazy journalists and pundits.

right2bright on June 12, 2008 at 6:24 PM

Andrea Mitchell has put it rest right now. . . .

It never existed. It’s only a rumor . It will never
be mentioned again cuz Andrea says it’s been put to rest.

Now in other news we have Michelle Obama calling
Rev Sharpton a darky. Oh, Dang . . . Another rumor.

Texyank on June 12, 2008 at 7:10 PM

Barrack HUSSEIN Obama. Barrack HUSSEIN Obama. It’s a mantra.

MarkJudge on June 12, 2008 at 7:41 PM

So I don’t know if its prudent to blame it on him.

BS. He is the only one who put these so-called rumors out and flogged them like his pea-brained life depended on it.

Everyone knows it. The media know it. Democrats and left bloggers know it. Larry is a slimeball that the media and left bloggers loved and propped up for his retarded anti-bush spew and the left and the media can’t go after slimeball Larry because they staked so much of their hate Bush on him.

Topsecretk9 on June 12, 2008 at 8:11 PM

I thought Olberdouche was the face of NBC. Does this bimbo Mitchell ever sleep? Her mug is on every show.

It is disturbing that TIME has access to recruit students for new customers within universities and schools.

Universities, colleges and some high schools, allow TIME, special status– to introduce students to TIME by offering a “free” subsciption set-up, to order to ease students (within a few months) into renewal with an annual charge to the credit card-unless notified in advance to cancel.

By enabling TIME to recuit new customers, indirectly, universities are helping to build support for the Democratic Party. I have not seen the same opportunities given to conservative publications. It is one more academic tool to push their students into liberalism.

I read on on the the blogs (almost had to be here or LGF) that the whole story was the plot of a novel that I can’t remember the name of. Sorry. The long and short of it was that the good guys (that would be the Obamas) had something just as devestating on the Bad Guys (the holders of the video) and both sides agreed not to go public since it was “mutually assured destruction”. Yes, it does sound cheesey and I am sure it wasn’t widely read which made it perfect to trot out as real life. Just like Hollywood can’t come up with anything new, they just keep rehashing stuff from fifty years ago.
