Video: The obligatory “Huckabee saves choking man with Heimlich” clip

posted at 12:42 pm on June 9, 2008 by Allahpundit

Not the actual footage, of course, but valuable nonetheless as a reminder of Huck’s appeal in these chat-show hits. Flip wonders how many lives a guy has to save to end up on a ticket around here. Given evangelicals’ lingering coolness towards McCain, Obama’s looming outreach to young Christians, and Team Barry’s plans for a campaign that pushes into at least the more purplish red states, I’m guessing one is enough. Re-read this post from last month about VP Huckabee if you missed it the first time. Exit question: Would Huck net more votes for the GOP among evangelicals than Palin would among women?

The math is a little different than the exit question implies. Huckabee costs the ticket more fiscal/law con votes than Palin loses anti-woman votes.

McCain should pick someone who isn’t a politician…

Well, Palin is a devoted Christian and a woman, so I think she’d bring in more.

And, let’s not forget: Huck gave the man the Heimlich because he (Huck) is pro-life…not because it is the decent human thing to do.

Palin won’t gain significant numbers of votes because she is female but because she is conservative. Huckster as VP will be the nail in McCain’s coffin. Evangelicals won’t be voting as a bloc, so Huck has nothing to sell.

Sounds good on the surface, but having someone who has never ran a campaign on the bottom of the ticket would make even the most gaffe-prone Obamessiah seem like a genius.

Awww…that video leaves all choked up.
Huck’s a funny guy. But McCain better not pick him!

jgapinoy on June 9, 2008 at 12:52 PM

I like Palin and I hope she gets a strong voice on the national stage. But just like Jindal, I hope that she doesn’t have to be the life preserver for the McCain campaign. She is everything that McCain is not – a conservative that doesn’t have to convince you that she is. If she loses with McCain, that might brand her as a loser. If she wins with McCain, then she’ll be like Bush Sr. to Reagan. I don’t ever want to think about a ‘McCain legacy’. . . and I certainly don’t want to waste good conservatives like Jindal or Palin on it.

Hmmm…

An obligatory post enabling obligatory misrepresentations of Huckabee snd his excellent record as governor of my state.

How very typical of this blog.

Al-Ozarka on June 9, 2008 at 1:06 PM

If Huck’s on the ticket, Obama may actually get 40 odd percent of Utah’s votes, and Barr a bunch of others. Why would Utah, the most conservative state in the Union, vote for the non-Republican ticket? Because Huckabee gleefully fanned the flames of religious bigotry.

So the real question is, is Huck going to pick up the 5 electoral votes he’ll cost McCain by putting Utah into play?

Vanceone on June 9, 2008 at 1:08 PM

Apparently Huck’s Blackberry didn’t tell him that Pittenger was one of the early and enthusiastic Romney backers in N.C. Wonder if that would have made a difference.

Evangelicals can easily spot a fraud like Huckabee. Just because he went to seminary doesn’t mean he is a evangelical no matter how many times he repeats it (reminds me of McCain’s constant and increasingly annoying lie that he is a conservative).

Palin’s problem has nothing to do with gender. Nobody knows who she is. McCain needs to “man up” and get a running mate acceptable the majority of the party that he has alientated by his liberal dogma.

Well, the real clip doesn’t exist because it’s kinda hard to wait for a camera when someone’s choking…though I’m sure he tried.

The media desperately wanted Huck to be our nominee last fall, so now they are pushing like hell for him to be VP.

Sorry…I don’t see anything new here.

Obama should put Huck on retainer. He could follow the “Messiah” around and remove his wingtip from his mouth whenever he emits one of those increasingly frequent misspeaks.

whitetop on June 9, 2008 at 1:39 PM

Well, the real clip doesn’t exist because it’s kinda hard to wait for a camera when someone’s choking…though I’m sure he tried.

And I’m equally sure that you’re full of crap. The difference between your “sureness” and mine is that yours is based on idle speculation while mine is based on having been there. Neither Huckabee nor anyone else at the luncheon did anything to call attention to his actions. Huckabee could easily have worked a reference to the incident into his speech, but he didn’t. We all knew something had happened because they had asked if there was a doctor in the house, and then promptly assured us all that everything was OK. Beyond that, anyone whose table wasn’t adjacent to the stage probably left the luncheon without knowing who had choked, who had saved him, or even that the event was a choking. I didn’t know myself until I read about it in the news today.

A brief search of the name “Huckabee” in my archives will make it clear to any reader that I’m about as far from a Huckhead as they get. Nevertheless, I believe in giving credit where credit is due. Huck did the right thing, and in no way attempted to exploit it. Anyone who suggests otherwise is arguing from a position of ignorance.

Huckabee used the terrorist fist jab combined with the Presidential chest thump, and the right wing MSM is covering for him with this Heimlich story.

Mike Huckabee a true hero.

he said , “turkey or whatever.. ”

hahahaha… choking his chicken..

Obama’s looming outreach to young Christians,

Lol!

Obama courting the Christian vote?

Hopefully he WILL decide to waste all of his time courting Christians..,Barack Hussein Obama is not going to get one Christian vote.

Many Christians are already convinced that Barack Hussein Obama is the Anti-Christ because his name, both ways, amounts to 666 and he was named after a muslim known as hussein the Dragon

Good luck trying to convince Christians to vote for a guy named 666/Dragon…not going to happen.

SaintOlaf on June 9, 2008 at 2:26 PM

at the end Huck said it was chicken..

Chakra Hammer on June 9, 2008 at 2:27 PM

Mccain knows enough to not make the fatal mistake of putting Miss Palin on the ticket.

He already knows that evangelicals are threatening to vote Constitution Party/Chuck Baldwin..Mccain has to put Mike Huckabee on the ticket or the republican party will fall apart.

Here we go again on this site, any chance to bash Huckabee. Too bad it wasn’t Romney who saved the guy because for whatever reason people on Hotair like a fake Conservative who suddenly changed his views to run for President.

arizonateacher on June 9, 2008 at 3:45 PM

This exactly the kind of man we need in the white house.

A man of action and integrity.

SaintOlaf on June 9, 2008 at 4:11 PM

Too bad it wasn’t Romney who saved the guy

If Romney saved a life, it wouldn’t be a three-day story.

Matt. 6:2 do not sound a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.

sulla on June 9, 2008 at 4:19 PM

I would criticize the Huckster but I’m getting a bit tired of being accused of being an atheist, non-conservative etc, and then having to respond to that blather.

aikidoka on June 9, 2008 at 4:36 PM

SaintOlaf, please explain the “adding up to 666″ stuff!

jgapinoy on June 9, 2008 at 8:38 PM

Huckabee is very comfortable in his own skin and very self assured. I’m starting to wish I had voted for him instead of Romney. Anything would be better than splitting the conservative vote and ending up with McCain
