Whenever I talk to a friend who just bought one, the first thing I hear is how they don’t have to deal with freezing or crashing anymore.

I think this is getting off topic, but come on, I haven’t had a freeze/crash of any kind in years on a PC…

I love the iPhone and general fancy cell phone/PDA hype though. If people are told it’s cool they will buy it.

It’s also amazing how much more people are paying for electronic gadgets that are more convenient at best, yet bitch about gas prices.

Like the libs I am surrounded by. Flat panel HDTV – check. Blue ray technology – check. $500 cell phone – check. $150 a month for digital cable/interent/phone package – check. “ZOMG!!!!11 – it costs me an extra 10$ a week now to fill up my tank – the world is ending – big oil is eeeeeeeeeeeeeeevil.”

I wonder if they’re designing it to only last two years. I remember my old original Motorola cellphones were built like tanks and would last forever. Then, the new slicker phones came out. Cool new features, but they were flimsy and started breaking after about 1.5yrs… and were dead by the time the two year contract was up.

My current iPhone is pretty solid and I have no doubt that it’ll keep running for years to come… however maybe this is limiting the profitable turn-around time and so the new ones are designed to be disposable.

And the other kind of freezing is another issue. On our Macbooks, if you log out of a user there’s a 50% (not exaggerating) chance you’ll just be taken to a blank screen instead of the log in screen. We just hold down the power button and restart. It’s ridiculous. I’m not even gonna get into what the iMacs do.

I use Macs 5 days a week at work, that crock of sh*t won’t work on me.

I agree that Apple sucks in the computer department. Macs suck, plain and simple. But, if you live in an area with good AT&T coverage, the iPhone wouldn’t be a bad option.

LOL. I am so glad I’m not a PC user anymore. PC’s are only good for those with extensive computer knowledge, who can truly proof their computer from the viruses that attack it.

Macs are fantastic because you can be a newbie with computers, and you can get right going. They are much more user friendly, better looking, crash less, and are just an all around more pleasant experience. Syncing is better, looks, user interface, everything is much better than PC.

Thanks for the info. I’m pretty sure service is good in Dallas but I’ve got to find people in West Tx/NM to see how it holds up out there. I’m really fed-up with Sprint (and I really want that phone!)

No, I just don’t like how apple does business. I would figure they would do their customers a solid by giving them more then just a pretty (really really pretty) package. I’ve always hated that about apple, its the most annoying thing about them (besides how iSmug the iLoyal can be :P)…

Think of it like this man… I’d rather have an evening with Liz Miles than Kelly Pickler. You know what I’m saying? For the money I’d rather have the Curve (or a Q, or blackjack II, or a HTC Tilt/wizard/ad nausium) and some gigs of media on cards then an iPhone at this point.

I think it depends on the area you’re in.

I had Verizon and was fine with them (though I hated their customer service for most of the 4 years I was with them).

I switched to AT&T when I bought my iPhone (and because after one particularly nasty Verizon customer service experience I had sworn to leave Verizon as soon as my plan was up) and I had better coverage in my area (Santa Monica, CA). My coworker switched from Tmobile to AT&T and noticed the same.

On the other hand, in NYC, when I had verizon, I got much better coverage than my roommate that had AT&T.

I would find someone in your area that uses AT&T and ask them how their reception is (probably a few someones just to make sure you get a decent set of data)….

Is this only because you’re a current customer? Will 3G still be $30 a month + normal plan for new customers? My guess is that you talked to a clueless CSR. The plan was just announced today, how would they know?

No, its becasue the iphone is a one-trick-pony next to the other enterprise level phones in the market (and in its price range), so they tart it up generate buzz on the interbutts and only do half of what the device needed to bilk the iloyal out of even more cash. Why do you think you pay for OSX service packs upgrades?

That being said I might buy one if it will do SMTP with Exchange servers better then the old one…

Zackly what I was thinking. Has anyone else besides me noticed how much AP is using religious language lately? At least once a day, it seems, he’s going “good lord” (sic) or “in the name of god” (sic) or (today in the Headlines) “Hallelujah” and “good lord.” Et cetera.
Not intending this as an insult to any atheists at all. Just pointing out that am not sure AP understands that it’s, well, beginning to get insulting to us believers hearing an atheist every aingle day calling on the name of God or invoking faith phrases repeatedly to make some headline point.

The phrases have more serious uses IOW and it’s disrespectful to keep using them that way, especially so frequently. Am pretty sure AP isn’t bigoted against believers so, whazzup wit dat?

Yup.

iPhone 3G doesn’t include MMS. But it won’t matter much; by July, when other companies start delivering instant-messaging apps for iPhone, you’ll be able to get the same functionality as MMS.
