E.D. Hill on Obama: Was that a, um, “terrorist fist jab”?

posted at 11:40 am on June 9, 2008 by Allahpundit

“Truly unbelievable,” writes Jake Tapper, and unfortunately he’s right. Good lord. It’s so bizarre that on first viewing I thought maybe there’d been a ‘prompter glitch since the rest of the segment is pure froth, presenting the bump as the cutesy poo gesture of affection that it actually was. On second viewing, it’s clear there’s no glitch; I think what happened was that they chose some outlandish interpretation of it to cite in the intro to drive home the point that people see what they want to see in these things. As the guardian of the grail said to Indiana Jones, they chose … poorly.

Sweet Jesus, Fox, lets give them a little more reason to criticize us. This is the stupidest issue I’ve ever seen. I bump my kids and friends all the time.

Apart from Keith Olberman, Fox and Friends is the most politically biased program on TV.
Sure, 90% of the MSM are in the tank for the Democrat party; so F&F redresses the balance a little. But I still can’t defend any program being that biased.

infidel65 on June 9, 2008 at 11:54 AM

WTF is a “terrorist fist bump”?

Hoodlumman on June 9, 2008 at 11:55 AM

Since my twelve year old is too cool to kiss his mom, the fist bump is our only acceptable public display of affection.

ctmom on June 9, 2008 at 11:56 AM

BO is sending a clear and strong message to the terrorists.
Mess with me and your next. Bumpity bump.

Hilts on June 9, 2008 at 12:06 PM

Fox has some of the best newscasters, and some, not so.

Janine might have felt like she was still doing the body language segment for RedEye.

infidel65 on June 9, 2008 at 11:54 AM

This isn’t Fox and Friends, its America’s pulse. The difference between F&F and Bathtub boy is that F&F is a morning show, its a fun news show, but isn’t along the lines a a nightly news show that needs to show you the news, not comment on it. Bathtub boy is that kind of news show, he host debates and election night coverage, he shouldn’t be pushing one candidate or platform over the other.

Rbastid on June 9, 2008 at 12:06 PM

I’ve seen him do clearly terroristic winks and smiles too. His bipedal gait is also a thinly disguised binary code leaking military secrets to Osama.

Stupid Fox

LimeyGeek on June 9, 2008 at 12:11 PM

The worst part about this segment is that nowhere within does Hill refer to her previously ridiculous statement.

Headline journalism is the worst of the worst. E.D. Hill is a horrible journalist.

Which one of you dudes who loves to call Obama “Hussein” started this terrorist fist bump nonsense?

Ummm, isn’t this the same ‘body language expert’ & former comedienne who does stints on RedEye? Perhaps this might be tongue in cheek?

clancy_wiggum on June 9, 2008 at 12:17 PM

Good lord. With all the resources of Rupert Murdoch’s empire, this is what they put on as news? Lot of good the acquisition of Dow Jones is doing them.

CP on June 9, 2008 at 12:18 PM

This “body language” mumbo jumbo has got to stop. That comment from E.D. was Doocey-esqe in its inanity.

MayBee on June 9, 2008 at 12:20 PM

Where are these people from? Even among our 50 – 60 year old crowd at the golf club, fist bumps are used to celebrate good performance on the course.

Between E.D. and the rest of the “Rah-Rah Obama!” talking heads on the other networks, I’m beginning to believe these people live in some strange, parallel universe.

MCPO Airdale on June 9, 2008 at 12:21 PM

Well, golf players are terrorists. So it’s not really a counter-point.

How come no one is talking about the butt slap BO gave Michelle after the fist bump?

jgapinoy on June 9, 2008 at 12:33 PM

I don’t know… I kind of would like to focus on his intentions to weaken our nuclear arsenal and cancel the FCS. (Future Combat System)

I think the whole “fist-pound” thing is classless but I feel like we are wondering if we are wearing clean underwear while tied to the train tracks.

Because it was merely a lower back pat.
Or as people sometimes call it, a genocidal back pat.

MayBee on June 9, 2008 at 1:31 PM

This is Obama’s start of universal health care. No high-fiving means no nasty spread of germs. It all starts with the hand bump!

robblefarian on June 9, 2008 at 1:48 PM

I believe the term came from an article about the “Pound” from some Fox News regular, probably Mort Kondrake but I can’t say for sure. He quickly removed the reference from his article, but she’s referencing the offending post and unfortunately is receiving all the heat for it.

Typhonsentra on June 9, 2008 at 1:58 PM

He hangs out this terrorists. He’s supported by terrorist. Heck, he is even endorsed openly by terrorist. Why can’t she ask a question she obviously was curious about?

Was that too offensive? I’m sorry. I know I’m a racist now. Why with stating the truth about Obama and all.

coffee260 on June 9, 2008 at 1:58 PM

That’s not the ED Hill I know. Hold on, there’s a bus coming…

Beagle on June 9, 2008 at 2:00 PM

Good lord, I’m a freaking Saltine and I know dog pounds.

Beagle on June 9, 2008 at 2:02 PM

This brings back glorious memories of my freshman year of college. My friend and I would always give each other this gesture, usually as a sign of approval that the other person just said something hilarious. Upon offering the gesture, we always said, “I’ll fist you for that”… because, obviously, “fisting” is a bajillion times funnier than any other word you could use.

On the semi-rare occasions we get together nowadays, fisting still does occur :)

loganthompson on June 9, 2008 at 2:18 PM

Not that stupid really, it was a closed fist, sign of Black Power but she immediately thought the better of it and made it a fist bump… Be very afraid of how this woman will behave if and when she gets to the White House….

max1 on June 9, 2008 at 2:21 PM

She probably wanted to say “black power salute?” but that would be so unPC she fell back on “terrorist fist jab?”. What do you bet that last week “terrorist fist jab” in quotes yielded 0 hits on google. Today there are 1650 hits and counting. It’s so odd, you have to think it was a misspeak or a fingerslip by whoever wrote her introduction. It’s beyond odd.

fossten on June 9, 2008 at 2:30 PM

No, that’s not a black power salute. That looks like a personal dog pound between them. I just watched it a dozen times in a row back and forth. Black power is over the head or out in front of you.

Nobody under 30 is going to vote for us ever again if we run with this stuff lacking knowledge.

Beagle on June 9, 2008 at 2:37 PM

Ummmmmmmmmmm…….Maybe they both have a closet case of mysophobia?

Dr.Cwac.Cwac on June 9, 2008 at 2:39 PM

I think AP’s right about possibly quoting the “terrorist fist bump” thing, or using it as a silly hypothetical, like she says “pound.” As in “Give me a pound, dog.” I’m pretty sure that’s not her phrasing of choice.

But stuff like this always rebounds off Obama and sticks to everyone else. He listens to a ranting racist for 20 years and now everyone feels bad he had to leave his church. If Reagan had teflon, Obama has kevlar so far.

Beagle on June 9, 2008 at 2:42 PM

Nobody under 30 is going to vote for us ever again if we run with this stuff lacking knowledge.

Beagle on June 9, 2008 at 2:37 PM

So true. I’m young, and I always forget that middle-aged people are SO unaware of something as simple and common as a “fist bump.” I’m embarrassed to even be talking about it.

loganthompson on June 9, 2008 at 2:45 PM

Beagle wrote:

True. Like some mainstream TV guy (ABCnews?) was saying, the internet is double-edged for Obama, a plus for things like fundraising, a minus because of rumors spreading that he’s a Muslim. LOL on the latter. As if that’s a serious charge. His father maybe a Muslim, not him. If someone calls Obama a Muslim then it will bounce off and create more votes for him. And I’m sure that’s why the MSM even mentioned it. More juice, more outrage, more votes for Obama.

Paul-Cincy on June 9, 2008 at 3:45 PM

How can people be making an issue out of this? Have the not watched professional sports in the last 5 years? Have the not observed hish school and/or middle school students outside the classroom? The fist bump replaced the high five quite awhile ago. Trying to make it into something else is just incredibly stupid.

Nobody under 30 is going to vote for us ever again if we run with this stuff lacking knowledge.

Beagle on June 9, 2008 at 2:37 PM

Very true.

Buford on June 9, 2008 at 4:10 PM

Paul-Cincy

The NYT quietly conceded Obama’s youthful Muslim identity not that long ago. He’s arguably an apostate, or murtaad. I wanted him to speak out for the rights of all people, particularly those facing the death penalty for apostasy in places like Afghanistan. Instead they lied about his status as a child and then later put their denials in the memory hole. It’s the pattern.

Beagle on June 9, 2008 at 4:21 PM

Beagle on June 9, 2008 at 2:42 PM

Of course this does. To even make an issue of what is basically the new “high five” is so absurd that it only creates sympathy for him.
Stupid stupid stupid thing to say.

Not that stupid really, it was a closed fist, sign of Black Power
max1 on June 9, 2008 at 2:21 PM

Black Power symbol? Good Lord.

SouthernDem on June 9, 2008 at 4:38 PM

I sooooooooooo want to see Osama do this in his next video now.

Reaps on June 9, 2008 at 4:44 PM

Given Obama’s long association with terrorists, defense of terrorists, fundraisers by terrorists, and the campaign’s constant use of terrorist images (Che in particular) I think the question is appropriate. That doesn’t even mention his long association with Louis Farrakhan, his political mentor and the boss of Wright.

If Obama and Dems don’t like it, they should have nominated someone else.

whiskey_199 on June 9, 2008 at 4:53 PM

That’s surreal.

AbaddonsReign on June 9, 2008 at 5:42 PM

Maybe if more terrorists got those, they wouldn’t be so angry and prone to violence. Oh, fist JAB? Nevermind.

But seriously, enough of this “the media is in the tank for Obama!” “No, they’re in the tank for McCain” blather. It’s simple: things that don’t matter, like fist jabs, teeth color, american flag pins get attention. Things that do matter, like the candidates positions on the reach of executive power, health care, economics, and the warfare/welfare state are ignored or only given cursory scrutiny. The media is “in the tank” for entertainment over substance and status quo over principles.

Of course if Rachael Ray and Barack Obama participate in suicide bombings, I may have to reconsider my judgements.

Mark Jaquith on June 9, 2008 at 6:22 PM

To be fair, I think they were just going to one extreme to show how ludicrous people can get with their thoughts on what the fist pound means. That and she clearly stated they were referring to Bush’s fist pound as well.

They worded it very poorly, no doubt.

TheBlueSite on June 9, 2008 at 7:02 PM

I liked Doucy and Kilmeade better when I thought they were gay. Doucy is so effeminate and Brian came off like the manlier one of the two who has to straighten Doucy out from time to time.

They had that terrific hilarious gay chemistry together, like Jack McFarland and Will Truman.

After I found out they were both straight I was almost dissappointed.

But their bias is really wild, they really hammer it home, sometimes taking the time to make sure everyone listening gets it.

They almost remind me of the SNL skit with Will Ferrell and Cheri Oteri; it almost doesn’t seem real when the 3 of them get going trying to make their case while speaking to their audience/viewers like they were children.
