“What would have happened if Obama’s bill had passed? There is no way to know for sure, but it seems likely that, facing less resistance, Al Qaeda in Iraq would have continued to gain strength, the fragile Iraqi Security Forces would have collapsed, as would the fragile Iraqi government, militias would have flourished–and the United States would have departed under fire, accepting a humiliating defeat in the war against al Qaeda that would have reverberated globally.
For any voter trying to choose between the two candidates for commander in chief, there is no better test than this: When American strategy in a critical theater was up for grabs, John McCain proposed a highly unpopular and risky path, which he accurately predicted could lead to success. Barack Obama proposed a popular and politically safe route that would have led to an unnecessary and debilitating American defeat at the hands of al Qaeda.”

If you think you are doing the right thing, chances are it will back-fire in your face.

Lol. Genius!
So, um, do the wrong thing? I so confused!

Good thing you typed the “Lol”. Otherwise we wouldn’t have known that it was in jest, and could have had 20 or so more comments on the “Genius” topic, just like on the “perfection” one :) It’s Sunday. Don’t worry about Murphy9. He’s just pretending to annoy you, in jest :) You’re a good one Spirit!

Sorry, that was meant to be a quote, not a strike :(
Entelechy on June 8, 2008 at 4:35 PM
I thought he was trying to manufacture Zen koans or something! :)
Spirit of 1776 on June 8, 2008 at 4:37 PM
Anyone who isn’t confused simply isn’t paying attention.

My pleasure. btw, what Indy lacks, imo, is faith, not intelligence or vision. Faith allows one to face bad news without despair–I know, I share his problem.
JiangxiDad on June 8, 2008 at 4:42 PM
Faith is dandy but liquor is quicker.
Murphy9 on June 8, 2008 at 4:47 PM
Do not meddle with perfection
Indy is God,in his own mind.

Luilekkerland, or Schlaraffenland…
It’s not a problem. Despair is part of every life. I had a 3-stars general for a next door neighbor, for many years, and loved to yak it up with him. His wife often said that I was one of but a handful, at best, women whom he liked. Once I asked him what it was like to be an American general and he said “we all lead quiet, desperate, lives”.
Entelechy on June 8, 2008 at 5:03 PM
Every man will tell you that.
At some time in his life.
SteveMG on June 8, 2008 at 5:09 PM
THE MASS OF MEN LEAD LIVES OF QUIET DESPERATION.
Henry David Thoreau
Yeah E. I too take comfort sometimes that I’m not alone.
btw. here’s a nice map of Schlaraffenland.

You beat me to it.
JiangxiDad on June 8, 2008 at 5:14 PM
Isn’t that how we had 9/11 handed to us? Bubba was more concerned with poll numbers than doing the job that he was hired to do, hence, the terrorists felt very comfortable hitting us time and again as well as declaring war on us!
Pam on June 8, 2008 at 6:12 PM
SteveMG, that was the point, that every person will tell that, even a 3-star general.
JxD, thanks for the map.
Entelechy on June 8, 2008 at 6:13 PM
Sorry, my mistake. I thought there may have been a male/female misunderstanding.
I’m not particularly religious (in fact, I’m agnostic) but the greatest message for me in Christianity is that you gain the world by rejecting it.
Yes you do.

Further to my posts regarding the wise v the foolish, it would seem that the wise seek knowledge - as in exploring new horizons: “accept no limits”. (Now, who said that, recently?)
The foolish, on the other hand, accept that which has been proven to be true, over a long period of time.
Exploration has no place in government. Exploration leads to the unknown and possible disaster. Much wiser, in fact, to be “foolish”, as in humble, prudent, careful, satisfied. Neither candidate qualifies.
OldEnglish on June 8, 2008 at 6:49 PM
As you get older, you no longer take either as a given.
Congrats, Indy, on being doubly accomplished today.

The wise man does sooner what the fool does later.

As long as yall are still around and Spirit of 1776 wants me to wait for everyone to catch up to getting on board with McCain, you might want to take a look at this.
From someone MUCH smarter than I am.
Rightwingsparkle on June 8, 2008 at 8:12 PM
Including the invasion of the illegals?
Johan Klaus on June 8, 2008 at 8:34 PM
Maybe I missed something, but who said this “quote of the day”?
