Open thread: Don’t leave us, Hillary! Update: “Support Senator Obama today,” says website

posted at 11:31 am on June 7, 2008 by Allahpundit

High noon ET, around the dial on cable news, the dream of 18 million Democrats and every Republican in America finally dies. There are navel-gazing feminist valedictions aplenty this morning about What It All Means for women if you’re looking for something to chew on, but if you are, make sure to season liberally beforehand with irony like this:

Many who are close to her blamed the paralysis on Clinton’s lack of faith in her own political judgment, and reliance on her husband in political matters.

“She trusted him more than she trusted herself,” said one adviser.

Fox News insists she’s under pressure to give a great speech, but short of an off-the-cuff aside that she’s still the better candidate or that she expects McCain to win big in November, there’s almost no way she can screw this up. Rah-rah for Obama + misty-eyed tribute to her supporters + Democrats uber alles = sickeningly sweet Strange New Respect for the rest of the weekend from the same media that’s been crapping on her since Obama ran the table in February, and don’t think the public hasn’t noticed. I’ll be watching it on MSNBC for the comic spectacle of Chris Matthews et al. gushing grotesquely afterwards to atone for months of behavior that inspired websites like this.

Anyway, like the boss says, it’s time to put the nice mask on. Sound off below. Exit question one: Does Hillary dare omit a lament about sexism while she has this spotlight? Think how disappointed the sisterhood will be. And exit question two: “For 16 years … you’ve had a lot of—a lot of fun—that you’ve had an opportunity to attack me and I think I’ve given as good as I’ve taken… But as I leave you I want you to know—just think how much you’re going to be missing. You won’t have Nixon to kick around anymore, because, gentlemen, this is my last press conference.” Is this Nixon ‘62 or Nixon ‘74? Like a liberal watching his most hated enemy flash the V sign and disappear into the presidential helicopter, my feelings at this moment are so, so … nuanced.

Update: The RNC pounces: “Clinton vs. Obama.”

Update: Per the few-days-old video on her front page, she’s still claiming she won the popular vote. Is she going to rub Obama’s face in that again during the speech?

Update: Change.

Update: Yup, she’s really pouring on the grrrrrl power near the end here.

She’s going to keep going… campaigning for the next election. We will never be rid of her.

techno_barbarian on June 7, 2008 at 1:15 PM

Next time she’ll seem like Joe Biden running. Been there, done that. And she probably won’t be the only woman.

RBMN on June 7, 2008 at 1:18 PM

It’s not about merit or suitability for the most important and powerful position in the world. It’s about entitlement.

Foolishness.

With any luck, Palin will be on the ticket. Won’t that be interesting?

Sorry Rhinoboy…my ears were bleeding so I must have “mis-heard”….sort like mis-speaking but I wasn’t under sniper fire so I have no excuse!

JetBlast on June 7, 2008 at 1:20 PM

Think she’ll finally kick Clenis to the curb after this? After all, she doesn’t need him anymore and he helped torpedo her chances this campaign.

techno_barbarian on June 7, 2008 at 1:13 PM

I don’t think she will for a couple of reasons. First of all she is a cheapskate with her own money; she’ll spend ours faster than Eric Heiden at the 1980 Winter Olympics – but she likes the trappings of “Wife of Former blah….” and won’t want to pony up for the cost of her own security. Second, I think the pact with the devil included they had to be married while on this planet. That second one was only a joke folks.

But, seriously she’ll keep Bubba around for the perks – it’s not like they actually spend time together. Only downside for her ‘to kick to the curb’ in my opinion.

Thank goodness that Johnson’s ‘Whitey’ tape had such an impact on the race.

Sounded like a shotgun wedding to me. Now let’s just hope she doesn’t end up on the USSC.

petefrt on June 7, 2008 at 1:23 PM

What is Monday in the Senate going to be like for the poor saps who didn’t support her?

ctmom on June 7, 2008 at 1:15 PM

That’s AWESOME
Would love to be a fly on the way with ya!

Branch Rickey on June 7, 2008 at 1:23 PM

If anyone noticed, when she mentioned all the races (Asian, Latino, Caucasian, etc.) that voted for her, she didn’t mention blacks.

doodleduh on June 7, 2008 at 1:23 PM

Why would she want to divorce Bubba? He’s filthy rich, and she hardly ever has to see him (now that her campaign is over). What more could a woman want in a husband?

AZCoyote on June 7, 2008 at 1:24 PM

How does she explain how Obama is suddenly experienced enough to be president?

“We maybe didn’t break the glass ceiling this time, but it has 18 million CRACKS in it?”

Did she really say that?

I think she said 18 million CRACKERS (you know, the kind that are clinging to their guns and Bibles).

AZCoyote on June 7, 2008 at 1:30 PM

Cwac Cwac,

I completely understand the need for self-correction, but it’s ok, we’re not that criticial here. Well, at least most of us aren’t! :)

To aid in your post Gallup interview, to aid in any continual stomach discomfort, I know that unsalted almonds helps with heart burn and acid reflux. We all make sacrifices sometimes.

Weebork on June 7, 2008 at 1:33 PM

Someone will pay for this debacle. But it can’t be Bill because she is really nothing without him. The campaign managers could be dealt with but a couple of deceased folks found in a public park one morning might be pushing their luck. The Clintons have controled their own destinies for 30 years and no uppity colored man is going to mess things up now. I just hope the retribution that is about to be unleashed by Clinton Inc. does not affect the public in general.

JonRoss on June 7, 2008 at 1:35 PM

The irony in illustrating Lad McBeth with Mrs Clinton is that, much unlike the latter, McBeth had some form of a conscious! “Out damn spot!”

Anything similar for Clinton? Let’s listen in…

JonRoss on June 7, 2008 at 1:40 PM

Notice that Hillary was 45 minutes late for her own party?

dalec on June 7, 2008 at 1:43 PM

So when is McCain scheduled for his free hour of Republican talking points on the MSM? November 2nd you say? OK, just checking.

Did I miss something??? The news reporting such a grand endorsement of Obama?? She barely mentioned him!

Rightwingsparkle on June 7, 2008 at 2:19 PM

She’s only suspending her campaign, as opposed to conceding. So much for ‘full support’. I guess Obama didn’t agree to pick up her campaign debt.

Exit question. “Senator Obama, it’s going to be a long 5 months to November. Anything can happen. Does the name, Vince Foster ring a bell?”

No. Technically, you have to wait till the Democratic Convention officially picks a nominee, and also pray for Barack Obama’s good health and clean criminal background in the meantime. At the convention, the house officially falls.

And it’s time for McCain to get his come-uppin’s, according to the Dhimmicrats. Let’s just watch and see how many of us don’t vote for McCain and let the half-honkey, all-donkey win. The leftists are outnumbering us, folks, in case you haven’t noticed. You are Alice In Wonderland even if you didn’t want to be. It’s Bob Dole II.

Rightwingsparkle on June 7, 2008 at 2:19 PM

I think you did. I heard her say about four-five times “If you want [insert here some lefty bromide that both she and Obama have on their platforms], then vote to put Obama in the White House!”

baldilocks on June 7, 2008 at 3:02 PM

The fat lady hasn’t started singing yet. Remember, she has suspended her campaign, which is quite different than dropping out of the race. Romney did the same thing. If something earth shattering were to come up about Obama she can still jump right back in.

cannonball on June 7, 2008 at 3:04 PM

She “suspended” only and didn’t offer her delegates (not tht he needs them at this point).

This sums it up to the utmost perfection

She ain’t goin’ nowheres.

Entelechy on June 7, 2008 at 3:09 PM

I watched the first few minutes of her alleged condescension…I mean concession speech. T’was enough to drive me outside to do chores. She didn’t fail-Clintons don’t fail; they don’t know the meaning of the word, unless it’s applied to someone else, specifically Conservatives. What’s funny is that she and the DNC wanted McCain as the Republican nominee, as he would have been the easiest to beat…and now he’s probably going to win by beating Obama. Funny that.

Doug on June 7, 2008 at 3:16 PM

Rhinoboy…no offense taken. When I get back to the states in October, I’ll be doing plenty of blasting myself!

JetBlast on June 7, 2008 at 3:22 PM

This thing is not over until election day. Dracula has many ways to enter a room. Usually he/she befriends/supports the victim first. Now that she has forced him to sever his ties with his church he’s probably not wearing a crucifix.

Obama’s future. Watch it!

I am Hillary, hear me be a bore
My butts just too big to ignore
And I’ve concealed too much for you to ever get me in the end
’cause I’ve hid it all before
And I’ve got it all locked up behind a safe door
No one’s ever gonna pin me down again

CHORUS
Oh yes I am a sneak
But it’s sneakinesses that will be to my gain
Yes, they’ve paid my price
And look how much I gained
If I have to, I can hide anything
I am sneaky (sneaky)
I am conniving (conniving)
I am Hillary

You can chase but never catch me
’cause it only serves to make me
More determined to achieve my final goal
And in 2012 I’ll come back even stronger
Not a novice crook any longer
’cause I’ve dodged all those the conviction of my soul

CHORUS

I am Hillary watch my butt grow
See my stab Obama in the back toe to toe
As I spread my controlin’ arms across the land
But I’m still a female gigolo
With a long long way to go
Until I make my wandering Bill understand

Oh yes I am a sneak
But it’s sneakinesses that will be to my gain
Yes, they’ve paid my price
And look how much I gained
If I have to, I can hide anything
I am sneaky (sneaky)
I am conniving (conniving)
I am Hillary
Oh, I am Hillary
I am sneaky
I am conniving

FADE
I am Hillary
I am sneaky
I am conniving
I am Hillary

Right! Don’t think that she isn’t lurking in the shadows. There is plenty of time between now and the general election for The Messiah to “gaffe it up”. If Barry steps in a pile of sh!t that is too deep, I bet the Dems wouldn’t hesitate to pull a Torricelli/Lautenberg switcharoo with OBambi and Her Thighness.

Justice Rodham-Clinton?

Man. I had a nice little delusion going, thinking I was the only guy paranoid enough to imagine that scenario. Thanks for forcing me to face the reality of that nightmarish possibility.

On the bright side, maybe that will convince a few McCain fence sitters just how damaging an Obama Presidency can will be.

soundingboard on June 7, 2008 at 6:45 PM

I just saw the change link.
All I saw was the big red bar that said “submit.”

I must admit, I had to. I can no longer fight it.

We must all submit.

Massive…tools.

Rhinoboy on June 7, 2008 at 7:31 PM

Ah, she throws her full support behind Obama…. a man she says isn’t ready for the job after saying that McCain is. I would say this doesn’t add up, but it does… because as I’ve said, being a big fat liar is a requirement if you’re going to make a name for yourself as a Democrat. But the RNC REALLY needs to run that ad of her saying Obama isn’t qualified over, and over, and over ’til election day.

RightWinged on June 7, 2008 at 8:06 PM

Hillary must not be Obama’s Vice President. If we were ever to have a black man as president and a white woman as vice president, a comet will smash into the Earth creating 1,000ft tsunamis.

hadsil on June 7, 2008 at 8:39 PM

I took a peek at the Hillary website (your link, “Change”) and at the bouquet she so sweetly tossed to the young and apparently no longer inexperienced Barry.

My only question (for the moment) is: Is that really her left hand over her heart?

Also, readers may want to note that she has done nothing yet to call off her most vicious dogs. Noted fabulist, Larry Johnson, the Spreader-in-Chief of the Michelle Obama “Whitey” speech rumor, had a new version of his story up at NoQuarterUSA as of 2:08 pm today, literally within minutes after she finished speaking!

Since then, he and his little pack of trolls have added six more posts, including bashing the news that MyDD has apparently now fallen completely in lock-step with Barack Obama.

VolMagic on June 7, 2008 at 11:34 PM

I had a strong feeling she would’t in the nomination. One, I’m not sure how many people would be confident that a woman could handle running a war and we are in a war whether people wish to believe it or not (I’m a woman btw). Two and most importantly, she’s a clinton. People are tired of the clinton bush era and want change in a way..but I for some reason don’t think they want the type of “change” that obama wants to bring so I have doubts he will win in the end between him and mccain. Both of them will take us to hell erasing our borders but obama will do it much faster imo.

I just can’t believe how much money she blew on thisthough.

johnnyU on June 8, 2008 at 1:14 PM

So hilarious, this budget website went up of all of her unhappy supporters and on it was a poll asking who you would support, McCain or Obama.

On Friday McCain was in the lead, but after her speech on Saturday Obama was winning. By Sunday Obama’s numbers were really up so the website owner pulled the poll.

Today the poll is back up and McCain is winning this time around.

Meanwhile the site owner is asking for donations and people are asking for what – what will the money be spent on.

Some of the comments from Shillary disenfranchised loons are so hateful and so threatening against Obama I sent the link to my father to notify the Secret Service.
