AQ: Bombing of embassy was our fault

A day after Guardian columnist Jakob Illeborg tried to lay the fault of the Danish embassy bombing on the Bush administration, al-Qaeda decided to clarify the situation somewhat. They claimed responsibility for the attack this morning in a tape released through one of their websites, and called it “the first drop of rain” unless Denmark officially repents of the Mohammed Cartoons:
Denmark shared a video of the suicide car bombing against its embassy in Islamabad with Pakistani investigators, as an Internet posting Thursday purportedly by al-Qaida claimed responsibility and threatened more attacks.
The statement said Monday’s attack was carried out to fulfill Osama bin Laden’s promise to exact revenge for the reprinting in Danish newspapers of a cartoon of Islam’s Prophet Muhammad wearing a bomb-shaped turban.
The attack killed six people, including one Danish citizen. It caused widespread destruction and demonstrated the vulnerability of the Pakistani capital to attack by Islamic extremists.
The authenticity of the statement, which was posted on a Web site frequently used by Islamic militants, could not be independently verified. It was signed by al-Qaida commander Mustafa Abu al-Yazeed and dated Tuesday. It warned if Denmark fails to apologize for the cartoons, more attacks will follow and Monday’s blast will “only be the first drop of rain.”
Pakistan says it wants all foreign consulates to move within a heavily-defended enclave of Islamabad for better protection against such incidents. However, they also say that the bombing will not derail the peace negotiations they are currently pursuing with Islamist terrorists in the frontier provinces. That sends a rather strange message to all sides; the Pakistanis want to protect foreigners by giving a free hand to radical Islamist terrorists?
Terror analysts expect more attacks on Danish assets in Pakistan and elsewhere. If so, the scale will likely be the same. This didn’t resemble a normal AQ operation in scale or complexity. Usually, AQ coordinates several attacks simultaneously, in transit or commercial sites. The use of a single car bomb indicates an inability to conduct wider-scope operations at the moment, perhaps due to a lack of trained volunteers.
In one aspect, though, it fits the AQ pattern over the last few years. They killed more Muslims than infidels once again.

The statement said Monday’s bombing in Islamabad was carried out to fulfill the promise of terror mastermind Osama bin Laden to exact revenge over the reprinting in Danish papers of a cartoon of Islam’s Prophet Muhammad.
Was that the best they could do? A.Q. must be in really bad shape. Usually it’s a coordinated spectacular attack. That was pretty weak, maybe gettin’ their butts kicked in Iraq and Afghanistan is having some effect?

and we’re stoopid enough to admit it.

What gets me is how muslims blissfully overlook the fact that every time Al Qaida gets pissed at the west they go out and kill a bunch of muslims. This time Al Qaida slaughtered a bunch of muslims to get revenge on non-muslims for cartoons that were first published a long time ago. Gotta love that islameic logic.
Guardian on June 5, 2008 at 1:10 AM
I can’t believe the Danish had the nerve to publish those cartoons! I mean, had they not done that, al-Qaeda would have had much different reasons for killing people right now.
OneGyT on June 5, 2008 at 2:27 AM
And you just know that right now there are likely some Danish politicians considering the “Apology Option.”

News travels slowly in the caves. Danish cartoons are so 2005.

And let’s not forget that Jordan is trying to have 11 Danes extradited to face charges there of blasphemy there over the cartoons.

Check out Lawrence Wright’s suggestion that there are emerging splits within the Islamic world in general and terror networks specifically as it pertains to the use of terrorism as a means of achieving political ends.

I guess the only logical response to someone saying that you are bombing unnecessarily in the name of Muhammad is to bomb something unnecessarily in the name of Muhammad.

Soon to be dead.

Yep, as I said yesterday, this was a weak attack, not worthy of defending their false prophet.
perhaps due to a lack of trained volunteers.
Which is due to so many of them being killed in Iraq and Afghanistan, the battle fields of our choosing.

Like an Osama tape, the shock value of the bombing is minimal as well.
Weak.

Denmark is entitled to outrage at AQ over this. Do they have the cojones to show it and go after the actual perps?

Right, i read his article in the New Yorker.. its seems Larry has quite a case of hero worship going on for Muslim Dr. Fadl…

Didn’t Al Qaeda get the message? The bombing was due to George W. Bush, not terrorists (because Bush is worse than they are). That might make the Left mad at AQ. Why President Obamassiah might even postpone his unconditional meeting with them for a day or two.
rbj on June 5, 2008 at 10:12 AM
Great point.
Bush chose to take the fight to them, unlike his predecessor. AQ reacted to our troops on the ground like a mosquito does to a bug-zapper. They came in droves and found a one way ticket to Allah.
Over there. Not here.
Thank you, President Bush.
Well done, defenders of our liberty.

This has now happened so often it’s become a cliché.
The Islamists lay out their rationale in detail, using small words and simply structured sentences. Immediately the Left pops up to say that simply can’t possibly be so, the only possible reason has to be Standing Up to Aggression and Persecution, not to mention Boooooooooosh.
It has to be part of the reason they’re so nasty. Nobody could maintain a cheerful demeanor while being accused of lying at every turn.

The guardian has found a way to bring “The Onion” to life. They’ve gotten AQ so pissed they need to release statements to make sure everyone knows they are causing things to go Kaboom.
Rbastid on June 5, 2008 at 10:33 AM
One of these days, one would hope that non-violent Muslims would get tired of having their friends and families blown up collaterally every time some AQ phlegm-head gets a tuck in his foreskin.

Remember the excellent posts by Robert Spencer. Militant Muslims will continue to agitate and argue until their goal of a Muslim world is achieved. Whether a war of words or a shooting war, they are on the offensive, here, there, and everywhere. Don’t be a soft target, and never let them gain any advantage when you come up against the jihad.

Heh, this reminds me of a flash cartoon that came out shortly after the cartoons were first published. Some of you have probably already seen it, but here it is.

It’s a weird world when terrorists can very plainly commit atrocities and have to beg people to blame them for it.
