And it causes other to doubt the abilities of competent and qualified minorities and women.

Is that the fault of affirmative action or the fault of the bigot who made that ignorant, prejudiced judgement? There's no excuse for declaring any successful black suspect because of AA.
That being said, this has been an enlightening thread. Obama's nomination is a great moment in American racial history, but many of the comments here show we have a looooong ways to go.

If we want to put the gotta-elect-the-clueless-Socialist-because-he’s-black argument to bed, how about:

Vice President Michael Steele.

Steve Z on June 4, 2008 at 9:52 AM

Now he’s a person I’d like to see get offered the position. I’ve always liked him.

I've said it before and I'll say it again...

Huckabee/Steele is a winning ticket.

Aristotle on June 4, 2008 at 8:36 AM
Being of the same tribe, I do. There's none. Don't believe everything you read on the Internet.
[A]s Ward Connerly frequently notes about affirmative action, two things happen when we do this: we cheat some of our qualified candidates out of the reward for their achievement, yes, but mostly in this case we cheat ourselves out of electing the best leader. But also, we put a person into a position that they are fundamentally unprepared for. And this breeds failure where success could have been achieved with the right amount of preparation.

And this phenomenon will be writ very large if Obama is elected. I say that after his disaster of a presidency, it will be very difficult to get another black person elected--even as a senator.

The victory for Mr. Obama, the son of a black Kenyan father and a white Kansan mother, broke racial barriers and represented a remarkable rise for a man who <strike>just four years ago served in the Illinois Senate.</strike> has no experience.

Of course the press were self-congratulatory. Without about $2 billion in "in-kind" donations from the press (severe Obama Bias, covering flubs and constant positive coverage), Obama wouldn't have won a fruit basket.

And Obama is about as far from a "uniter" as you can get, he's constantly surrounded himself with racist pigs. Should he gain power, he'll do far more harm than good.

You don't spend your entire adult life closely associated with racists and marxists because you disagree with their ideas, and you don't shed all that baggage just by tapping your shoes together and chanting "there's no place like home!"

In watching and reading some of the reaction, many reveled in Obama’s nomination for the same reason. They want to feel good about America rather than have an experienced nominee.

Something I've said all along - he's only in this because he's black (and because of his name). It makes all the "young voters" (read: stupid college kids) feel special, like they're a part of something by voting for a black guy, and they're so edgy by voting for one who's name has so many similarities with our enemies. "Take that mom and dad! Now send me some more money, I'm out of weed!"

It may be shocking for people to hear, but Geraldine Ferraro was 100% right, and she was only echoing something Obama himself had already said (which was the disgusting part about his campaign's feigned outrage). Bottom line, if he was just a white guy named Barry O'Reilly, no one would have ever heard of him. He wouldn't have ridden the Trinity train in to the Illinois Senate and wouldn't be making a mockery of the presidency as he is today, by getting a free ride based on his skin color, when he offers nothing, his supporters have absolutely no idea why they support him (unless you count his pronunciation of "change" and "hope", which I agree are spot on), has no experience, has gaff after gaff, racist and terrorist friends, etc. Ugh. What a shame.

they not only want to feel good about America, they want to feel good about themselves

I would be very skeptical of the former, and sadly assured of the latter.

Obama's candidacy is about nothing but race, and the mindless narcissism he evokes in his intellectually flatlined hordes.

History would be made if we actually lived up to the dream of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.

It would be a distraction to judge Obama on the basis of his character . . . even if you could find some.

He could have been a half-black race-baiting empty suit from the S. Side of Chicago and he still would have been the media darling.

Whoa... That has a familiar ring to it...Doesn't it?
Rush Limbaugh:

"I don't think he's been that good from the get-go. I think what we've had here is a little social concern in the NFL. I think the media has been very desirous that a black quarterback do well. They're interested in black coaches and black quarterbacks doing well. I think there's a little hope invested in McNabb, and he got a lot of credit for the performance of this team that he really didn't deserve. The defense carried this team."

This is only the begining of the MSM "history" meme...

After all, we have not had a black President yet... no matter what Bill Clinton said.

This is where its going to get really ugly... before it was a White woman he was running against.... another "protected" class...

Now its a White Man, so its Open season.

Huffypoo is having an obamagasm.

EM over at HA has a more reasoned 'not quite in the bag yet' analysis of the obamanator as the presumptive dem-soc nominee....

Don’t under-estimate the American voting public. It’s the same incredibly stupid crowd that not only elected GWB the first time, but actually re-elected the idiot a second time!

Monkei on June 4, 2008 at 9:12 AM

That would be overestimate, Monkei-boy. As for the failures of the American electorate, remember that, for all of our faults, we have sobered up by November in five of the last seven Presidential election years.

Liberal trolls might think better of harping on a "stupid voters" meme just now.

Yes, history is made. The first nominee for president to openly call for America to surrender to its enemies.

Hey Rich, No way I'm letting you guys gang up on me LOL... but I didn't say I was a leftie!

I think people have their own reasons to vote for whomever they wish. I'm not going to psychoanalyze millions of people's thoughts. However, I agree it's pretty easy to make that conclusion.

ok. good. Is the Black thing over with now? He's making it just as far as any white person. Can we friggin quit the 'blacks don't get anywhere' crap now? See how far they can get when they take that attitude off the table and just go forward like anyone would? I'll give Obama that. Blacks need to watch and learn from him.

The only person you could possibly compare him to that would be worse would be Dick Cheney, who McCain threw under the bus in his speech, to his credit.

Monkei on June 4, 2008 at 9:06 AM

Riiiight. I found that backstabbing to be utterly despicable on McCain's part. Indeed, maybe Scott McClellan can be on his team.

Oh really? Is that right? LOL. Perhaps you need to get out more and meet some successful black people.

It's Barack Obama's vile friends and mentors who refer to Condeleeza Rice as Condiskeeza. But LOL away, dude.
